We present a trajectory-based routing (TBR) protocol, which efficiently routes data to a mobile sink on the shortest path in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). Using the idea of vector images (sensors representing pixels), we use two kinds of geometric shapes, hyperbola and arc as the smallest elements within the shortest routing path. Our protocol let sink nodes transmit the compressed routing request to source nodes through a routing path. Each individual node uses the DV-Hop (Distance Vector Hop) of the virtual anchor nodes as the dictionary which helps in efficiently decipher a compressed routing request. Finally, the routing path is distributed to each individual node within the path. the mobile sink can integrate updated routing path to the existing active path by sending new requests. Our protocol relaxes the constraints such as use of nodes' GPS information, the reliability of nodes, and also, places no restrictions on the sink's moving speed and direction. Using a WSN test-bed, and simulations on TOSSIM, we show that our trajectory-based routing protocol using DV-Hop is faster, reliable against node failures, provide location anonymity of nodes, and transmits less routing packets than two other known approaches.

the current COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as a serious disease with life-threatening clinical manifestations and a high mortality rate. One of the major complications of this disease is the rapid and dangerous pulmonary deterioration that can lead to critical pneumonia conditions, resulting in death. the current healthcare system around the world faces the potential problem of lacking resources to assist a large number of patients at the same time;then, the non-critical patients are mostly referred to perform self-isolation/quarantine at home. With the advancement of IoT and Cloud technologies now it is possible to monitor patient's symptoms in real-time to detect and quickly report sudden and dangerous changes to the healthcare provider. In this paper, we propose the concept of R-Mon, an mhealth tool for diagnostic-assistance, and real-time communication with healthcare providers that can be used with COVID-19 patients in self-isolation and any other disease in pandemic situations. We propose the use of a pressure sensor under the bed that can monitor the respiratory rate and pulmonary function of the patients. We also propose a framework in which the detected information can be directly seen by the practitioner for the decision-making process. We envision that this kind of mhealth tool and framework can be implemented for better health response in future pandemics.

A few years ago, hitting the silo container from the outside was the only way of knowing whether it had to be refilled with feed or water. However, current advances make it possible to develop more evolved mechanisms that not only allow the farmer to know if it is necessary to fill the silo with feed but give a precise estimate of the quantity of feed or water remaining in the silo and information on other parameters that help control the quality of the feed. To this end, it is necessary to design a device that will be placed on the inside of the silo and will detect if there is feed and how much of it by means of a sensor with ultrasonic technology. the prototype includes several motion engines which perform a complete sweep for the calculation of volume;this is important as each type of feed has a different density. In addition, the development of such a system will make it possible to optimize the delivery of feed to livestock holdings through route planning for the truck, for example, in cases where two nearby farms are short of supply. For this purpose, we have developed a system that incorporates an IoT device with a laser for calculating the volume of feed inside a silo. In addition, this system includes a series of sensors that can monitor temperature and humidity. thus, the owners obtain more information from which they can draw conclusions about the conservation of the feed and about its general exploitation. Furthermore, it is possible to understand to what extent the cold and humidity affect animals and their consumption of the feed. this research work describes the evaluation of the developed prototype in several independent silos on the Hermi Group's farm (Salamanca) and outlines the obtained results.

the proposed deployment scheme works as follows (i) the node calculates the common reference point whenever it is in the communication range of at least 2 other nodes. If any node is not able to communicate with a minimum of two other nodes and can communicate with only one node than such node can only perform one-hop communication with the nearest node to remain in the network. (ii) the sink node triggers the AUV to perform the one-time random walk in the network to gather the data from all the nodes including the calculated common reference point. (iii) the AUV forwards this information to the surface buoys. (iv)the surface-buoy sends the collected data to the sink node to process the data. (v) the sink node pre-processes the data to remove the adjacent common reference points, unfeasible points, and the redundant points. (vi) the sink node computes the routing path based on the common reference point and triggers the mobile agents to deploy the nodes at the remaining common reference points. the proposed algorithm is validated with performance parameters such as network coverage, network connectivity and a number of nodes to be deployed. © 2020 ieee.

Internet of things (IoT) has become the backbone of current and future emerging applications both in the public and the private, industrial sector. the IoT paradigm, enhanced with intelligence and big data analytics, has found applications in a wide range of solutions such as smart home, smart city, industrial IoT etc. Even though IoT implies that cheap motes can conduct a specific task, thus a large number of them can be deployed, we aim to minimize the installed hardware while we still have a high level of quality of service. Machine Learning algorithms can support this challenge by generating virtual data via utilization of real data from a smaller subset of sensors. the generated data can replicate sensor behavior which would otherwise be difficult or impossible to track. It is also possible to use simulation models for data analysis model validation, by generating new data under varying conditions. In this paper, we propose a concept of an IoT testbed which allows virtual IoT resources to be immersed and tested in real life conditions, which are met in everyday life. Additionally, the features of the implemented testbed prototype are discussed while taking into account specific use cases, regarding luminosity scenarios in industrial environments.

Civic engagement refers to any collective action towards the identification and solving of public issues. Current civic technologies are traditional Web- or mobile-based platforms that make difficult, or just impossible, the participation of citizens via different communication technologies. Moreover, connected objects sensing physical-world data can nourish participatory processes by providing physical evidence to citizens;however, leveraging these data is not direct and still a time-consuming process for civic technologies developers. this paper introduces the concept of social middleware for civic engagement. Social middleware allows citizens to engage in participatory processes supported by civic technologies- via their favorite communication tools, and to interact not only with other citizens but also with relevant connected objects and software platforms. the mission of social middleware goes beyond the connection of all these heterogeneous entities. It aims at easing the implementation of distributed applications oriented toward civic engagement by featuring dedicated built-in services.

In order to improve the intelligent control of automobile headlights and improve the safety and reliability of automobile driving in various weather conditions, especially with dust, fog and haze, an intelligent control system is designed for automobile lighting system which based on STC12C5A60S2 single chip computer. the signal acquisition is realized by various sensor input circuits. At the same time, the intelligent control of automatic conversion for far and near lights is realized by converting into electrical signals. It can adjust the brightness of the headlight automatically according to the change of ambient light intensity.

We introduce the US NSF Engineering Research Center for the Internet of things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag). IoT4Ag aims to improve agricultural outcomes using highly distributed sensor technologies that monitor the soil and microclimate where plants are grown. MEMS will be a key technology enabler of this application, which requires sensing diverse measurands over large physical areas. We describe example optical and RF sensors that use large-area, low-cost fabrication technologies, are biocompatible or biodegradable, communicate from above or below the soil surface, require zero or near-zero power, and/or are powered from biodegradable batteries, wireless power, and energy harvesting.

Massive deployment of diverse ultra-low power wireless devices in different application areas has given rise to a plethora of heterogeneous architectures and communication protocols. It is challenging to provide convergent access to these miscellaneous collections of communicating devices. In this paper, we propose VGATE, an edge-based virtualized IoT gateway for bringing these devices together in a single framework using SDRs as technology-agnostic radioheads. SDR platforms, however, suffer from large unpredictable delays. We design a GNU Radio-based ieee 802.15.4 experimental setup using LimeSDR, where the data path is time-stamped at various points of interest to get a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of the delays. Our analysis shows that GNU Radio processing and LimeSDR buffering delays are the major delays. We decrease the LimeSDR buffering delay by decreasing the USB transfer size but show that this comes at the cost of increased processing overhead. We modify the USB transfer packet size to investigate which USB transfer size provides the best balance between buffering delay and processing overhead across two different host computers. Our experiments show that for the best measured configuration the mean and jitter of latency decreases by 37% and 40% respectively for the host computer with higher processing resources. We also show that the throughput is not affected by these modifications.

In the modern society, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been widely used as a cooking fuel in homes, hotels and industries. However in many cases, LPG leakage poses a serious threat to the users and the society. there are several ways to avoid the damage because of the gas leakage but the best way is to place a gas leakage detector nearby the source. Apart from the safety issue, people also find it difficult to identify the amount of gas remaining in the cylinder which causes inconvenience in their work. therefore this project proposes a flexible and reliable way of detecting the leakage of LPG, monitoring the amount of LPG available in the cylinder and provides the ability to book a cylinder by automatically sending the booking request via SMS to the distributor as required. this system is also capable of sending an alert SMS notification along with a buzzer to users to notify about the leakage to avoid major accidents. the advantage of this proposed system over the existing ones is that it continuously monitor the gas level and also offers quick response to the events and accurate detection of leakage. © 2020 ieee.
