Invasive species have increasingly become a problem in recent years. Climate change and changing environmental conditions allow them to conquer new habitats. E.g. the Brown Mamorated Stink Bug (lat. halyomorpha halys) (BMSB) has been spreading across Europe and causes significant damage to fruit crops in Italy. To be able to quickly respond to such threats, it is important to understand which environmental conditions are beneficial or harmful for such pests. In this paper, we present a sensor network to help determine the relevant environmental factors for detecting and implementing countermeasures against such pests. We highlight the challenges of designing the system and show the lessons we learned during the deployment and operation of eight months. © 2023 ieee.

In light of the increased concern about environmen-tal sustainability and the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, methane (CH4) detection plays a critical role regarding air quality and climate change. As the major component of natural gas, methane significantly contributes to global warming and serves as an ancestor to the creation of harmful atmospheric pollutants. therefore, effective detection and mitigation of methane leaks are essential for promoting sustainable practices. the first step to achieve this relies on the creation of systems capable of reliably and rapidly detecting methane leaks into the environment. this paper explores solutions for methane detection leaks in IoT natural gas monitoring systems, with a focus on the integration of low-power sensors, particularly using Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) technology. the research encompasses various aspects, including the development of a test plan, to ensure validation of sensor performance across diverse scenarios, aiming to simulate sensor behaviour under conditions closely resembling the environments in which they will be deployed. © 2024 ieee.

Near real-time sensor data is growing exponentially faster than our ability to sense and make sense of it as the current classical computing and supercomputing approaches require an enormous volume of computational resources, storage, and training time. Quantum computing is posed to exponentially outperforms today's high-performance computers and accelerate the evolution of information occurring in classical systems and sensor networks. the Lightning Imaging sensor (LIS) mounted on the international Space Station (ISS) locates, senses, and detects lightning activities from low Earth orbit and measures radiant energy at millisecond timing over a broad regional spectrum. In this paper, we are introducing a space-to-ground hybrid quantum- classical machine learning architecture to demonstrate the application potential and the feasibility of Hybrid Quantum Neural Networks using the ISS LIS lightning dataset and a corresponding background dataset as inputs (1) to train a classical deep neural network model (2) where the feature extraction outputs are encoded as quantum states using multiple calibrated quantum encoding patterns (3) then used as part of a quantum feature mapping process, ( 4) allowing for enhanced hybrid QNN training, optimization, and auto-differentiation, setting the path towards polynomial advantage. the following is how the rest of the paper is structured: the introduction is covered in section I, and the motivation and our contribution are covered in section II. Section III presents related works. Section IV describes the NRT lightning imaging sensor. Section V describes the space-to-ground hybrid quantum architecture. Section VI. Space-to-ground hybrid quantum-classical machine learning architecture. Section VII describes quantum machine learning. Section VIII presents a performance analysis. Finally, section XI concludes the research paper.

Autonomous orchestration in distributed systems is a solution that attracts attention in 5G and beyond. Indeed, proposing a distributed orchestrator system with an Edge Cloud network can ensure autonomous management and service continuity, even when remote resources are not reachable. this feature is one of the key advantages of fifth-generation (5G and beyond) cellular networks, as stated by 3GPP (release 18), particularly regarding Proximity-based Service (ProSe), service management, and so on. therefore, there is an urgent need to address the current gap in the edge cloud system to achieve greater proximity and distributed self-management, thereby providing services closer to the users. this is crucial for meeting the requirements of real-time applications such as gaming, Virtual Reality, augmented reality, vehicle-based services, etc. this paper proposes a self-orchestrator system within the concept of Home 5G architecture, based on 3-tier edge cloud networks, known as Home Edge computing (HEC). We validate our proposal using a Vehicle-to-vehicle-to-Home Server (V2V2H) use case to evaluate the latency of content sharing between end-devices and the HEC server.

Single data source, isolated data islands and low information utilization in intelligent transportation lead to the poor inversion of the cyber space to the physical space including Incomplete data integration, high interdependency of systems and poor anti-control ability. In this paper the data-driven method is adopted to optimize the W parameter in Webster method to reduce the waiting time of vehicles to realize the traffic congestion. In particular, a multi-source heterogeneous data processing method and a unified modeling of the multi-dimensional and multi-layer networks have been introduced. By data-driven engine, we have implemented both massive storage and fast processing system. We have also build a service system which can rapidly realize data integration and services delivery as well as be directly called by researchers from the database through network requests to reduce the data reprocessing. this paper also produces the data interaction process of the data engine framework in traffic management and control, and proposes a solution for the use of massive city data. © 2021 ieee.

To transparently encrypt/decrypt data stored in Hadoop distributed File System (HDFS), the Key Management Server (KMS) has been designed to automatically assign encryption zone keys (EZK) to encryption zones. However, the current key-management scheme suffers from performance bottleneck. In this paper, dividing key files for storing key data into metadata file and material file, we propose a memory-disk coordinated key management architecture for Hadoop EZK to manage massive keys, where a tree structure is designed to index key metadata stored in memory, and the inverted index structure is used to record materials stored on hard disk. Further balance-tree-based management algorithms without Java serialization is designed to efficiently query keys (including metadata and materials). A series of theoretical analysis are conducted to show the upper and lower boundary of metadata query. Finally, we implement the above scheme in the Hadoop KMS without modifying the original key-management interfaces. A series of experiments are carried out on the simulated data. Experimental results show that, our scheme can efficiently manage ten billion keys and perform much better than the existing KMS in Hadoop. © 2021 ieee.

Incorporation of 2D LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensors in indoor SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) systems has become an increasingly common practice. the choice of these sensors is directly affected by the characteristics of the target environment. Among them, we may consider the scanning frequency of the LiDAR sensor. this paper analyses the influence of this parameter on low-cost 2D LiDAR sensors both from a computational standpoint and from the perspective of feature extraction in a mapping process. the experimental results suggest a relationship between the scanning frequency, the volume of processed data and the feature extraction uncertainty. It has been shown that lower scanning frequencies result in the detection of a larger number of features with reduced uncertainty. © 2024 ieee.

Modern agricultural operations have significant challenges due to organic waste management since conventional approaches often prove ineffective and unsustainable. To overcome these challenges, this research suggests a new method for smart composting that combines IoT with gradient-boosting algorithms. this system accurately manages and optimizes the composting process by employing Internet of things (IoT) sensors to monitor important factors, including temperature, moisture, pH, and oxygen content. Real-time data analysis is then performed using Gradient Boosting algorithms. By combining the IoT with gradient boosting may preventatively measures to maximize decomposition and microbial activity, which speeds up the composting process and reduces resource waste. the produced compost has higher nutritional content and more diverse microbes, making it useful as a soil supplement in farming. In addition to improving organic waste management, this novel method helps with soil enrichment and sustainable agriculture, promoting efficiency and resource conservation. Accurate sensor readings, data integration, real-time tracking, and quickly achieving optimal composting conditions are all challenges. © 2024 ieee.

People around the world are facing lack of treatment, doctors' availability, and health monitoring technologies. In this modern era, many systems are evolving that provide health care services with some limitations, such as being very expensive, a lack of security for patient data, and having a high communicational and computing overhead. the major goal of this work is to propose an effective overlay for sensor networks for faster routing of patients' vital parameters to the medical staff concerned. this proposed system uses heartbeat sensor for monitoring the heart rate, temperature sensor (LM35) for monitoring the body temperature of the patient, a GSM (Global System for Mobile) technology is used to alert the doctors or care takers in case of any emergency situation. Zigbee wireless technology is used for transferring the data that comes from the sensors and APR9600 loud speaker is used to alert the doctors through voice commands. In addition, overlay network for sensors to enable fast and reliable communication is proposed. In normal routing, the best path is found using traditional protocols, which may not be effective for a sensor network as energy of the device is not a parameter for route costing. this work proposes constructing sensor Overlay for Remote Patients Monitoring (SORPM) for efficient routing of data between end users say doctors and patients. Scalability is another added advantage of this approach. © 2022 ieee

Coordinated Optimization for Zone-Based Voltage Control in Distribution Grids

this article addresses the problem of optimizing voltage profiles in distribution networks. the voltage optimization is split into two stages;the former is performed offline and the latter online. First, the network is partitioned into several weakly coupled voltage control zones (VCZs) with pilot nodes (PNs). then, the partitioning is used to optimize the voltage profiles of the distribution systems on the frame of a two time-scale-based coordinated approach. At the first level, a centralized voltage optimization problem (VOP), minimizing the distance of bus voltages at the PNs from their reference values and subject to linearized power flow equations, is solved to fix the positions of the on-load tap changer and of step-voltage regulators, and the reactive powers provided by capacitor banks. At the second level, the VOP is implemented according to a decentralized approach, in which the solution is obtained by applying a distributed algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers. It optimizes in each VCZ the voltage at the PN by acting on the active and reactive powers provided by the distributed energy resources present in the VCZ;the VCZ solutions are driven to the global optimum of the whole distribution system by a limited data exchange between the PNs. the proposed approach reduces the complexity and computational burden typical when solving the VOP on a large scale system. the proposed strategy is tested on the modified ieee 123-bus system;various load and generation scenarios are analyzed proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in achieving the objective of voltage regulation.
