Multiple line-outages detection is an important and meaningful research task for power grid security. In this paper, we model the power grid as a distributed complex network and obtain real time power data from phase measurenment units (PMUs). A novel distributed multiple line-outages detection algorithm is proposed, in which each bus sensor receives data from its neighbor buses. By constructing a virtual finite time observer network, the topology variation of power grid can be detected in finite time. Finally, simulation results based on ieee9 bus system show that the proposed algorithm is effective to detect line-outages in real time.

Wireless sensor networks are often distributed which makes detection of cyber-attacks or misconfiguration hard. Topology and data patterns change may result from attacks leading to the compromise of data and service availability or indicate operational problems. Graphs are often used to model topology and data paths to describe and compare state of a system. For anomaly detection, the definition of normal patterns, deviation from normal, and criteria when to declare anomaly are required. In this contribution the process of acquisition of normal patterns (ground truth), and criteria when to declare anomaly based on graph comparison are proposed. the anomaly detection is suitable for deployment at the edge of a network. Finally, the inability to define all security threats is addressed by a custom tree-based classifier which only requires normal patterns for training. A simulated wireless sensor network was used to acquire data and apply the method. Our experiments show that data and topology change can be detected at the edge of a network.

More recently, it has become possible to run deep learning algorithms on edge devices such as microcontrollers due to continuous improvements in neural network optimization algorithms such as quantization and neural architecture search. Nonetheless, most of the embedded hardware available today still falls short of the requirements of running deep neural networks. As a result, specialized processors have emerged to improve the inference efficiency of deep learning algorithms. However, most are not for edge applications that require efficient and low-cost hardware. therefore, we design and prototype a low-cost configurable sparse Neural Processing Unit (NPU). the NPU has a built-in buffer and a reshapable mixed-precision multiply-accumulator (MAC) array. the computing and memory resources of the NPU are parameterized, and different NPUs can be derived. Besides, users can also configure the NPU at runtime to fully utilize the resources. In our experiments, the 200MHz NPU with only 32 MACs is more than 32 times faster than the 400MHz STM32H7 when inferring MobileNet-V1. Besides, the yielded NPUs can achieve roofline or even beyond roofline performance. the buffer and reshapeable MAC array push the NPU's attainable performance to the roofline, while the feature of supporting sparsity allows the NPU to obtain performance beyond the roofline.

Organizing computing distributed resources in conjunction with machine learning algorithms in the age of big data is critical. this paper presents the FRL approach that combines Federated Learning and Reinforcement Learning to address problems in scale, speed, and data privacy. the overall framework of the Federated Reinforcement Learning (FRL) model bestows the use of distributed computing at different agents to train a standard RL model. this framework guarantees data privacy utilizing differential privacy and secure multi-party computation (SMPC). Quantitative analysis proves the proposed FRL framework retrieves a better result than a standard RL strategy implemented in the central controller. In the 100th episode of the study, the authors' FRL framework had better results than the centralized RL approach in autonomous navigation, resource management and game-playing. thus, the FRL framework gained a total benefit of 95 cumulative. 6, 98. 4, and 98. 3, and the rewards obtained for the centralized RL approach were 90. 5, 92. 0, and 93. 8, respectively. Also, there was lower communication overhead about the generic FRL framework, where the assessment was recorded at 33. At the same time, 100 parameter exchanges were performed;the decentralized RL method was measured at 6 units, while the centralized RL method was measured at 41. 3 units. the joint plot analysis established that the traditional FRL framework training strategy offers quicker convergence and heightened model robustness, as the collaborative training approach provides. the heatmap visualization confirms the enhancement of the capability to control the communication overhead. © 2024 ieee.

Attributed to the widespread use of general artificial intelligence (AI), large-scale datasets have become a critical component for the success of AI-powered applications. While collecting a larger dataset is desirable in general, studies have revealed that many databases include duplicated images. the accumulation of redundant images will result in excessive resource usage and inefficient cloud storage utilization. To get rid of the duplicates, hashing-based methods have been developed for the problem of image deduplication. However, as demonstrated in our experiments, current approaches fail in dataset with small visual difference, such as medical images. To this end, we propose QHash, which achieves effective image deduplication on the low-variance dataset. QHash leverages Vector Quantized Variational AutoEncoder (VQ-VAE) to learn the data distribution in an unsupervised manner. In addition, hash sequences are implemented using integer-based tensor, enabling distance calculation and deduplication being processed in parallel on either CPU or GPU. Extensive experiments show that QHash outperforms other baseline approaches by at least 50%, while is about 23% memory efficient and 18% deduplication time speedup. © 2021 ieee.

this study aimed to develop the new fitness function for wearable devices, namely - Sweat loss estimation during running activity. Machine learning model (polynomial Kernel Ridge Regression) was trained and validated with large and diverse dataset. Totally 568 human subjects participated in 748 running tests. Sweat loss contributing factors such as users' anthropometric parameters, distance, ambient temperature and humidity were distributed in the wide range of values. the performance of fully automatic sweat loss estimation algorithm provides average root mean square error (RMSE) = 236 ml;more important health-related parameter body weight percentage RMSE (RMSEBWP) = 0.33% and coefficient of determination (R-2) = 0.79. To the authors' knowledge the algorithm provides the highest performance among existing solutions or ever described in literature.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the world is confronting various healthcare issues, and healthcare automation is more crucial than ever. the pandemic has revealed the limitations of existing digital healthcare systems to manage public health emergencies. there is no registered population for many healthcare institutions in Sri Lanka, as a result, there is a communication gap. Electronic Health Record systems (EHRs) are becoming popular to share patient details but accessing scattered data across several EHRs while safeguarding patient privacy remains a challenge. Most of these medical records are in printed format and manually entering those into EHR systems is time-consuming and error prone. Not only that pharmaceutical error is a critical healthcare problem, but it is even riskier to visit doctors for pharmaceutical diagnosis during a pandemic. this research introduces a Blockchain-based patient health record system, an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) based Medical Document Scanner, a Drug Identifier based on Image Processing and a Medical Chatbot powered by NLP as four novel approaches to address these issues. Altogether with the results, this research aims at introducing a solution for the limitations in healthcare while providing a distributed healthcare framework for the healthcare community worldwide. © 2022 ieee.

As an important category of skyline queries, the skyline groups query has drawn growing interest from the academic communities. For taking the benefit of cost savings, data owners are motivated to outsource the data storage and query processing to the public cloud to offload the massive data management. However, direct outsourcing may raise severe privacy issues. In this paper, we define and study the secure skyline groups query problem, and propose the secure skyline groups query methods. To address this problem, we first propose the Basic Secure Skyline Groups Query (BSSGQ) method to find the skyline groups on encrypted data. In BSSGQ method, candidate groups and their aggregate tuples are generated under encryption. To calculate group dominance relations, we propose a secure group dominance protocol to facilitate the dominance computation between groups. With the dominance relations, the skyline groups w.r.t the query group can be obtained, and finally the query results of the skyline groups can be securely returned without being learnt by the cloud servers. To address the efficiency problem in BSSGQ method, we further propose a Dynamic-programming-based Secure Skyline Groups Query (DSSGQ) method to effectively avoid generating the candidate groups. In DSSGQ method, the encrypted data are equivalently mapped based on the query group as the preprocessing to achieve a dynamic skyline groups query. then, DSSGQ method dynamically constructs and calculates the skyline sub-groups in ciphertext, and the final skyline groups can be combined with the obtained skyline sub-groups. thorough analysis shows the security and complexity of the proposed methods, and extensive experimental results on real datasets and synthetic datasets illustrate the performance of our proposed methods. © 2021 ieee.

Many cloud providers, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Alibaba Cloud, offer support for blockchain cloud services that rely on a runtime environment, such as the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), to execute smart contracts and ensure consistency between participants. However, existing runtime systems suffer from two main limitations. Firstly, traditional runtime systems like EVM cannot guarantee privacy protection as all the data uploaded to the blockchain is visible to all participants. this restricts the use of blockchain in limited scenarios. Secondly, each computation on the runtime system must be synchronized to all nodes in the network, resulting in a significant increase in computational overhead, which can be challenging to implement for more complex applications. One approach to address these limitations is to utilize Trusted Execution Environments (TEE) for blockchain runtime, which can provide privacy protection and mitigate redundant synchronization operations. However, using TEE for blockchain may significantly increase cloud costs. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes PL-EVM, a new runtime environment for smart contracts that utilizes jointcloud. PL-EVM achieves high-security guarantees by using TEE to protect privacy-sensitive data and incorporates dynamic migration and splitting mechanisms to achieve high efficiency and low costs. Our evaluation results show that PL-EVM can improve performance and reduce costs by 4% to 32.22%.

A new frontier in Smart Agriculture is merging nanobiotechnology with edge computing, for on-field raw data collection and processing. Smart plant sensors communicate plant chemical signals to on-field agricultural and phenotyping equipment. Particularly promising are the Organic Electrochemical Transistors (OECTs), i.e., devices that can measure the ionic content of liquid samples and biological systems. In this work, we present and evaluate several algorithms for solving a mathematical model that describes the behavior of OECT devices, in order to translate raw values like electrical currents, to meaningful information about the monitored plant stem, e.g., the concentration of ions and water saturation. Our Rust-based algorithm implementations are energy-efficient and suitable for real-time execution on constrained edge devices, as we demonstrate providing several experimental results that concern the quality of model solution, memory footprint, execution time, and the energy cost. the experiments were carried out using two different Arm Cortex-M processors, an ultra low power one and a high performance one.
