In recent times, a significant rise is observed in the usage of IoT devices, as a repercussion of which threats of cyberattacks have increased. Intrusion Detection system play an important role in identifying malicious activities in networks. this study examines various IDS approaches including hybrid approaches, and highlights key challenges such as heavy reliance on labelled data, constraints in identifying complex attack patterns and explainability in real time, as well as better solutions discussed in section two of this paper. this research derives potential enhancements such as integration of XAI with various models like CNN, Random Forest and federated learning aiming to enhance performance, generalization and adaptability in order to make IDS more scalable and prone to various types of attacks.

Internet of things has emerged as a key technological enabler for broader socio-technical and socio-economic paradigms, such as smart cities and Circular Economy. However, IoT systems are characterised by constraints and limitations which in order to be overcome they need to be deployed in conjunction and in synergy with other emerging ICT. distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) can help overcome challenges pertaining to data immutability, timeliness and security. However, the use of DLT does not satisfactorily mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities per se and currently cybersecurity aspects of IoT systems are addressed in a fragmented way. Furthermore, the conflict between the resource demanding Blockchains and the highly constrained nature of IoT devices hinders implementation efforts of corresponding systems. We consider networked systemsthat comprise both IoT and DLT technologies via the prism of Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS). We elicit a three-tier threat model identifying attack vectors at the Device, the Network and the DLT layers. the identified attacks are then ranked by using the DREAD ranking scheme. the use of the threat model is demonstrated on a novel proof-of-concept IoT networked system implemented using the IOTA Tangle distributed ledger, where it helps to critically appraise the design of the system against the most critical attacks. Furthermore, the developed system is among the first in the literature to demonstrate the synergy of IoT and DLT on actual constrained embedded devices. the performance evaluation provides insights showing that such systems can be efficient and suitable for real-life deployment.

the use of autonomous systems is burgeoning in the world today for many applications in many fields from scientific, industrial, to military. At the same time, advances in semiconductor technology have enabled ever smaller, complex and dedicated microprocessors. this work details a control system architecture that takes advantage of these advances for use in resource-constrained autonomous systems. the architecture consists of a real time hardware controller, a guidance and navigation computer, and an edge TPU for machine learning inferences. While the latter two processors are commercially available, a dedicated, modular real time controller is not. therefore we present an open source design for a real time controller that is intended to be adapted to many types of autonomous systems. We present three different vehicle platforms that implement this control system including a ground vehicle, a surface vessel, and a quadcopter. Finally, we present results using this control architecture on a few key topics of interest in autonomous systems. the first is a novel spatial estimation algorithm called partitioned ordinary kriging that is designed for resource-constrained systems and can be used for path finding during mapping missions. the second result pertains to a sensor calibration utilizing sensor data collected from the real time controller and performed on the navigation computer. Finally, we demonstrate using the edge TPU (tensor processing unit) for object detection using an onboard camera and an object detection algorithm using machine learning.

Blockchain has attracted considerable attention as a solution to the challenges of privacy, security and decentralisation for many applications. However, these characteristics of the blockchain result in ever growing ledger size, which is one of the major barriers to blockchain adoption in large-scale networks such as the Internet of things (IoT). In this paper, we propose Multi-Level distributed Caching (MLDC) for blockchain storage optimisation which reduces data replication based on data access pattern. MLDC divides nodes into storage classes (SCs) by their node availability, and assigns each SC a different Access Frequency (AF) to remove data from the local storage. Over time, each node only stores frequently accessed data, so MLDC can reduce the total storage cost by 83% compared to conventional blockchain systems, while maintaining blockchain consistency and data availability with a slight increase in network overhead and data query delay.

However, 5G communication has the characteristics of uncertain time delay, which makes it difficult to meet the requirements of high real-time communication interaction between feeder terminals. A switching method of feeder automation control strategy based on 5G communication delay is proposed. Firstly, a method for calculating the overall real-time communication delay of the feeder automation system is proposed;then, the communication delay interval is preset according to the communication requirements of the distributed feeder automation system;Finally, the real-time communication delay is compared withthe preset communication delay interval, and the feeder automation strategy of the distribution network is switched according to the comparison result. the simulation results show that this method can overcome the influence of the uncertain delay of 5G communication on the distributed feeder automation system, effectively improve the speed of transfer and recovery of the distribution network after a fault, and ensure the safety of the operation of the distribution network.
