In distributed computing, coding techniques are shown to be an effective solution for mitigating the impact of stragglers. However, previous research on coding has predominantly focused on homogeneous worker environments, overlooking the fact that real-world systems often consist of heterogeneous workers with varying computing and communication capabilities. Specifically, uniform load allocation, without considering worker heterogeneity, can result in substantial latency losses. In this paper, we propose a load allocation strategy designed for distributed systems with group heterogeneity, where workers in the same group have similar computing and communication capabilities, but workers of different groups do not. By exploring group-wise MDS codes, we determine the optimal code dimension and optimal computation loads for individual groups. Our proposed approach demonstrates comparable computation times to existing methods, while exhibiting the advantage of much shorter encoding and decoding times.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) rely on energy-conserving routing protocols due to the limited power and communication capabilities. the LEACH protocol has seen extensive usage despite its homogeneous network foundation, leads inadequate signal coverage. To solve the issue, this research proposes an improved flower pollination algorithm (IFPA) improves flower pollination algorithm (FPA) addresses issues with slow convergence and local optima. this research presents an enhanced clustering technique that may be utilized in heterogeneous sensor networks. Its main feature is the ability to adjust the status of data transmission. Once the observed information intensity above the predefined threshold, the data transmission connection is initiated and data is sent to the sink by the cluster heads, which filter the perceived information. Otherwise, cluster nodes keep track of the data and wait for the next batch of nodes to provide data. the good news is that the simulation results show a network lifespan that is several times longer than the LEACH protocol. the IFPA method stands out because it increases coverage rates while drastically decreasing the cost of deploying networks. As a result, the suggested method might find many uses, helping to lower costs and improve the performance of wireless sensor networks. © 2024 ieee.

Ray is a novel distributed computing framework designed for artificial intelligence computations and has been widely applied in various fields. However, its default load balancing algorithm, which is based on the equal distribution approach, often leads to load imbalance issues. In this paper, we propose a load balancing algorithm based on multi-objective optimization to address the load imbalance problem in Ray. the algorithm utilizes an ideal similarity-based sorting solution to improve the shortcomings of Ray's default load balancing algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm effectively improves the load balancing performance. © 2023 ieee.

this paper describes a cloud infrastructure and virtual laboratories on P4 programmable data plane switches. P4 programmable data planes emerged as a technology that enables innovation in networking. P4 is a programming language used to describe how network packets are processed. this paper explains an entry-level training library on P4. the virtual laboratories introduce the learner to P4 and data plane concepts by providing step-by-step guides and exercises. the virtual laboratories are hosted in the Academic Cloud, a distributed platform that manages and orchestrates computing resources. Additionally, the paper describes a work in progress of P4 virtual laboratories that uses Intel Tofino switches. Lastly, the paper discusses the use of the Academic Cloud as a network testbed.

In this paper, we study a connected submodular function maximization problem, which arises from many applications including deploying UAV networks to serve users and placing sensors to cover Points of Interest (PoIs). Specifically, given a budget K, the problem is to find a subset S with K nodes from a graph G so that a given submodular function f(S) on S is maximized while the induced subgraph G[S] by the nodes in S is connected, where the submodular function f can be used to model many practical application problems, such as the number of users within different service areas of the deployed UAVs in S, the sum of data rates of users served by the UAVs, the number of covered PoIs by placed sensors, etc. We then propose a novel 1-1/e/2h+2-approximation algorithm for the problem, improving the best approximation ratio 1-1/e/2h+2 for the problem so far, through estimating a novel upper bound on the problem and designing a smart graph decomposition technique, where e is the base of the natural logarithm, h is a parameter depends on the problem and its typical value is 2. In addition, when h = 2, the algorithm approximation ratio is at least 1-1/e/5 and may be as large as 1 in some special cases when K <= 21, and is no less than 1-1/e/6 when K >= 22, compared with the current best approximation ratio 1-1/e/7 (= 1-1/e/2h+3) for the problem. We finally evaluate the algorithm performance in the application of deploying a UAV network. Experimental results demonstrate the number of users within the service area of the deployed UAV network by the proposed algorithm is up to 7.5% larger than those by existing algorithms, and its empirical approximation ratio is between 0.7 and 0.99, which is close to the theoretical maximum value one.

In Wireless sensor Networks, efficient and reliable data routing is critical, especially in environments characterized by dynamic topology changes and resource constraints. Multipath routing techniques are essential for reducing energy consumption, improving scalability and facilitating load balancing in WSNs. this paper presents a novel routing framework the Enhanced Tree-Seed-Optimal Path Routing Protocol which operates in three main phases: Network Clustering, Optimized multipath routing and Route maintenance. High quality clustering is done by Fuzzy Gaussian Adaptive Clustering with the prediction of residual energy, number of neighbor node and distance to BS ensuring the selection of CL and formation of cluster. In the second phase, the Enhanced Tree-Seed Algorithm is applied to discover and optimize multiple routing paths between sensor nodes, providing robust and reliable data transmission. Lastly, the routing paths are maintained to prevent the path breakages which lead to regenerate route discovery. the proposed work enhances the adaptability of the network to dynamic condition but also prolongs the network's operational lifetime. the protocol has been simulated across various WSN configurations and the results are compared with existing routing protocols. Simulation outcomes shows that the Enhanced Tree-Seed Optimal Path Routing Protocol is superior to other routing protocols in terms of End-to-End delay, Energy Consumption, Packet Delivery Ratio, throughput and Network lifetime. © 2024 ieee.

Nowadays, in the deregulated environment of power systems, it is crucial to fairly allocate active power loss occurring in the complex distribution network having distributed generations, solar PVs with batteries and EV charging stations to the network users according to their contribution toward loss. the network users (i.e. consumer and owner of distributed generation / distributed generation and EV charging station / solar PVs with batteries / solar PVs with batteries and EV charging station) associated with a node are either charged or benefitted jointly, not separately, according to exact and quadratic loss allocation methods. thus, to separate the allocated loss of the node among the network users, 'separate distributed generation exact loss allocation' and 'separate distributed generation quadratic loss allocation' methods are proposed in the work. A dummy node, connected to the node, is created to separate the distributed generation from the load virtually. then, exact and quadratic loss allocation methods are applied to the modified network to find the loss allocation of individual network users separately, considering variations in generations and loads. the effectiveness of the loss allocation methods is tested on 33-node radial grid-connected and grid- isolated networks. © 2024 ieee.

the scheduling mechanism in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) focuses on the enhancement of energy efficiency by organizing actions like cluster management, data aggregation, and communication. Amongst the powerful algorithms proposed for WSNs, LEACH and its variants are more popular. this paper focuses on the performance of Low Energy-Aware Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and one of its variants, REACT-LEACH. the primary divergence between LEACH and the Residual Energy-Aware Clustering Transformation protocol for LEACH (REACT-LEACH) lies in their CH selection and rotation mechanisms. While both protocols optimize energy consumption and task distribution among nodes, the real-Time scheduler synchronizes the simulation clock with external real-Time, enabling accurate evaluation of WSN behavior. the significance of scheduling mechanisms in WSNs portrays the comparative advantages of LEACH and REACT-LEACH, emphasizing their adaptability and energy-efficiency features. © 2023 ieee.
