Human activity recognition using inertial sensors has gained significant popularity and widespread adoption in various fields, while deep learning has emerged as the dominant approach, playing a pivotal role in enhancing performance. Nevertheless, existing algorithms often neglect the heterogeneity of sensors and fail to effectively extract contextual features from long-term time series data, resulting in low accuracy in activity recognition, especially for complex activities. this paper proposes a novel method called FUsion Transformer hUman activity REcognition(FUTURE). FUTURE exploits the feature fusion mechanism and designs a multi-scaled DenseNet to extract the spatial features so that the relationship between heterogeneous sensors can be captured. Furthermore, a customized multi-head attention model with less computational complexity is employed in FUTURE to capture global dependencies within the sensor data. Experimental results on multiple datasets validate that FUTURE achieves an average recognition accuracy of 95% for complex activities and the evaluation against the state-of-the-art demonstrates the superior performance of the FUTURE model in accurately classifying complex activities.

Wide Area Measurement systems (WAMS) enhance classical measuring techniques for power networks by bringing more sophisticated devices (PMUs) and enabling a more developed communication infrastructure (CI). During the deployment of a WAMS, these two aspects should be carefully assessed. While the optimal PMUs placement problem (OPP) had been intensively studied, the CI needs more attention. this paper tackles the problem of the optimal placement of wireless sensors over the network to insure its connectivity. A mathematical optimization formulation is firstly developed. An approximation resolution approach using the concept of the Steiner tree is then proposed. the obtained numerical results show that having a power network with a higher nodal degree lead to less needed sensors. Results also highlight the importance of jointly considering PMUs and sensors placement problems during the deployment optimization process. A sub-optimal approach is proposed to achieve resolution within reasonable calculation times.

As the proportion of distributed generation grows in power system, microgrid becomes an important role in consumption. As the number of facilities in radiating distributed power grid is great, the application of traditional centralized control or decentralized control methods are difficult to solve problems such as high control pressure, weak connection between the microgrid and main grid, or single point failure. Aiming at low-voltage user-level microgrid, this paper proposes a P2P control structure based on MAS to realize distributed control and ensure that operation standards can be met in both grid-connected and off-grid operations of microgrids. through such method, rapid response to changes, control pressure lowered and single point failure avoided could also be fulfilled. By building user-level microgrid system in PSCAD/EMTDC, the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed control method are verified. © 2021 ieee.

Decoupled Iterative Deep sensor Fusion for 3D Semantic Segmentation

One of the key tasks for autonomous vehicles or robots is a robust perception of their 3D environment, which is why autonomous vehicles or robots are equipped with a wide range of different sensors. Building upon a robust sensor setup, understanding and interpreting their 3D environment is the next important step. Semantic segmentation of 3D sensor data, e.g. point clouds, provides valuable information for this task and is often seen as key enabler for 3D scene understanding. this work presents an iterative deep fusion architecture for semantic segmentation of 3D point clouds, which builds upon a range image representation of the point clouds and additionally exploits camera features to increase accuracy and robustness. In contrast to other approaches, which fuse lidar and camera features once, the proposed fusion strategy iteratively combines and refines lidar and camera features at different scales inside the network architecture. Additionally, the proposed approach can deal with camera failure as well as jointly predict lidar and camera segmentation. We demonstrate the benefits of the presented iterative deep fusion approach on two challenging datasets, outperforming all range image-based lidar and fusion approaches. An in-depth evaluation underlines the effectiveness of the proposed fusion strategy and the potential of camera features for 3D semantic segmentation.

this publication describes our scientific journey to reach the 4th version of a spherical Mach Effect sensor apparatus. this paper focuses specifically on recent refinements to and past performance of this novel scientific instrument. Much has been learned over the past two decades (since version 1) about how and when our sensor array system enables the possible detection of an electromagnetic interaction appearing consistent with one attributable to a Machian inertial interaction. this paper describes the sensor array in sufficient detail for others to replicate our findings viewable in other publications. the joint probability that these 11 independent results could have been achieved by random chance is very low. the detector would appear to 'point' in the direction of one of three gravitational targets;the Sun, the center of our Milky Way galaxy or the center of our Virgo supercluster of galaxies. this work may challenge the current view of the role empiricism must play in building a more robust, fact-based and scientific view of reality. In this venue showcasing the latest technologies and applications in electrical, computer and mechatronic engineering we contend that a sensor system should be considered a scientific device based upon its ability to create repeatable evidence from nature, which our evolving devices now regularly do. © 2023 ieee.

the conventional power flow analysis utilizes a single slack, reference, or swing bus. the use of similar formulation when performing power flow analysis may not necessarily result in minimum cost of generation and minimum power loss. distributed slack buses, which are used to distribute the slack power (power mismatch) among different voltage controlled buses, can solve such a problem and reduce the cost of generation and power loss. this paper proposes a co-operative game theory-based approach to calculate active power participation factors to distribute slack active power among different participating generators. In the first stage, the worth (or value) of individual participating generators and their coalitions are computed. In the second stage, the Shapley value, one of the solution concepts of cooperative game theory, is used to calculate the participation factors of individual participating generators. Case studies on ieee 14- and 30-bus systems show that the cost of generation and power loss are reduced and voltage profile is improved in case of systems with distributed slack buses compared to that with a single slack bus.

distributed machine learning (DML) encounters issues related to privacy and the presence of straggling nodes in smart cloud systems. Lagrange coded computing offers a partial solution to mitigate these concerns. Nonetheless, the privacy of the system becomes vulnerable when the number of semi-trusted nodes surpasses a specific limit, or when external eavesdroppers are present. To confront this hurdle, we introduce a novel framework for distributed learning called DPLE (Differentially Private Lagrange Encoding). this framework employs Lagrange interpolation polynomials to obscure the original data while introducing redundancy, thus improving privacy safeguards and increasing robustness to straggling nodes. It also incorporates artificial noise into local computation outcomes to protect confidential data from potential exposures. Furthermore, we perform theoretical analyses to identify the necessary variance of this noise to maintain desired privacy levels. Experimental validations confirm the efficacy of DPLE and examine how different settings of system parameters impact the accuracies of the results.

1 the Internet of Battlefield things (IoBT) represents a significant advancement in modern warfare, leveraging the power of interconnected devices, sensors, and autonomous systems to enhance situational awareness, decision-making, and operational efficiency. However, the increasing complexity and scale of IoBT also introduce significant cyber security challenges, including vulnerabilities to cyber attacks such as distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), data tampering, and adversarial artificial intelligence (AI). this paper explores AI-driven strategies for securing IoBT ecosystems, focusing on leveraging machine learning algorithms, real-time threat detection, and autonomous response systems to mitigate cyber risks. It examines the role of AI in enhancing encryption protocols, identifying anomalous behaviors across battlefield networks, and responding to threats autonomously with minimal human intervention. Additionally, the paper proposes adaptive security frameworks that utilize AI to learn from evolving threats and protect sensitive battlefield information. through a detailed analysis of current cybersecurity challenges and AI applications, this paper aims to contribute to the development of resilient, intelligent defense mechanisms capable of securing future IoBT deployments in dynamic and hostile environments.

When extreme events cause large-scale outages, local power sources, such as distributed generations (DGs), can be coordinated to restore critical loads in distribution systems (DSs). However, the inertia of an isolated system formed by inverter-based DGs is relatively low, so the dynamic frequency during the restoration is essential as it may trigger the protection and cause restoration failure. therefore, the dynamic frequency constraints should be considered when making decisions on the restorative actions. this paper proposes a dynamic frequency constrained service restoration method for the DS. First, according to the frequency response of inverter-based DGs, the analytical formulation of the system frequency nadir is derived and piecewise linearized. By incorporating the linear frequency constraints, a mixed-integer linear program is proposed for the restoration problem, by solving which the optimal restorative sequence and system operation state after each restorative action can be determined. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a modified ieee 13-node test feeder. © 2021 ieee.

Nowadays, the Wireless sensor Network (WSN) technology is extensively used in a large variety of applications. WSN has engaged humans and computers in many applications such as health monitoring and security. ieee 802.15.4 wireless standard is the current demand on WSN which is used to transmit video or real-time data at low data rates. Reliable data transmission for video applications is a critical issue in low data rate transmissions due to the high collision from conventional protocol, which is Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA). therefore, a MAC layer with token approach protocol called MAC-TA protocol is proposed to solve this issue. In this protocol, the only node that holds the token can transmit the data. If other nodes intent to do the transmission, they have to wait for the token before sending the data. Token Holding Time (thT) is a duration time set at the node that holds the token, and the token is pass to the next node when the thT is finished. this paper is focusing on the development of the MAC-TA protocol onto test-bed TelG motes. three types of MPEG-4 video samples have been tested which are Akiyo, Foreman, and Mobile both in Quarter Common Intermediate Format (QCIF) and Common Intermediate Format (CIF) format. the proposed protocol is compared with the existing CSMA protocol in ieee 802.15.4 standard. the experimental results present that the MAC-TA protocol has improved the packet delivery ratio by 70%. Moreover, the results prove that MAC-TA provides good reliability of multimedia data and makes it possible to send over ieee 802.15.4 environment. © 2021 ieee.
