We propose an approach for tracking a varying number of simultaneously active acoustic wideband signal sources in an acoustic enclosure. Relying on the assumption of W-disjoint orthogonality, the method uses narrowband position estimates of the sources for the targets. the instantaneous position estimates form clusters rather than single points, as would be required for a conventional Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter. therefore, we model the position estimates as extended targets and use a special form of the PHD filter, the extended target Gaussian mixture PHD filter, for tracking the targets. this allows to model target birth and death, which correspond to speech onset and end of utterance, respectively. With this model and by using the well-developed theory of Finite Set Statistics (FISST)-based multi-target tracking, we provide a comprehensive, strictly Bayesian treatment of the problem of tracking wideband acoustic sources using narrowband position estimates. We validate the results by tracking a varying number of targets in an enclosure simulated with the image-source method.

In this paper, a gridless DOA estimation method with coexistence of non-circular and circular signals is proposed by employing an enhanced sparse nested array, whose virtual array has no holes. the virtual signals derived from both sum and difference co-arrays are constructed based on atomic norm minimization. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

this paper investigates optimal target-sensor geometries for differential received signal strength (DRSS) localization in the 2D-plane. To achieve this, theD-optimality criterion is employed, whichmaximizes the determinant of the Fisher information matrix (FIM). We observe that equiangular sensor separationmaximizes the determinant of the FIM, forming the best geometry, for equal target-sensor ranges under the assumption of identical log-normal noise variances for all sensor measurements. However, when the distances between the target and sensors are different, equiangular sensor separation cannot meet the optimal geometry condition. We provide analytical and numerical solutions for optimal geometries for the specific cases of three and four sensors with non-uniform target-sensor ranges.

In this paper, we investigate into joint direction-of-departure (DOD) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for bistatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar in the presence of gain-phase error and mutual coupling error. An auxiliary sensors-based framework is proposed, the matched array measurement of the MIMO radar is formulated as a parallel factor (PARAFAC) model, which links the problem of joint DOD and DOA estimation to PARAFAC decomposition. thereafter, the DODs and DOAs are obtained via least square strategy. the proposed method is computationally more efficient than the existing reduced-MUSIC method. Besides, it can achieve closed-form solutions for DODs and DOAs, which are paired automatically. Numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Frequency diverse array (FDA)-multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is characterized by extra degreesof-freedom (DOFs) in the range domain, which can be utilized in mainlobe deceptive jammer suppression. However, the jammer suppression performance degrades evidently in the presence of compound suppressive jamming signals and deceptive jammers. To this end, this paper deals with the suppression of compound interferences (including the suppressive jamming signals and deceptive jammers) in bistatic FDA-MIMO radar. At the design stage, a colocated FDA-MIMO radar is considered in node 1, while the node 2 serves as a receive-only array, which is configured as a distributed FDA-MIMO radar by combining with the transmit array in node 1. then, a two-stage processing is performed to suppress the compound interferences, including: 1) the mainlobe maintenance processing to ensure the maximum response of the target;2) the suppression of mainlobe interferences with joint local and global processing. At the analysis stage, the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) is analyzed, and a comparison among different radar frameworks is carried out. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in suppressing the compound interference.

this paper proposes a novel wideband structure for array signal processing. A new wideband model is formed where the observations are linear functions of the source amplitudes, but nonlinear in the direction of arrival (DOA) parameters. the method lends itself well to a Bayesian approach for jointly estimating the model order and the DOAs through a reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) procedure. the source amplitudes are estimated through a maximum a posteriori (MAP) procedure. the DOA estimation performance of the proposed method is compared with the theoretical Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for this problem. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the method.

In radar systems, unimodular (or constant-modulus) waveform design plays an important role in achieving better clutter/interference rejection, as well as a more accurate estimation of the target parameters. the design of such sequences has been studied widely in the last few decades, with most design algorithms requiring sophisticated a priori knowledge of environmental parameters which may be difficult to obtain in real-time scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid model-driven and data-driven architecture that adapts to the ever changing environment and allows for adaptive unimodular waveform design. In particular, the approach lays the groundwork for developing extremely low-cost waveform design and processing frameworks for radar systems deployed in autonomous vehicles. the proposed model-based deep architecture imitates a well-known unimodular signal design algorithm in its structure, and can quickly infer statistical information from the environment using the observed data. Our numerical experiments portray the advantages of using the proposed method for efficient radar waveform design in time-varying environments.

Massive MIMO predicts unprecedented capacity and energy efficiency improvements in future networks, by the use of base stations with hundreds of antennas. However the crucial question of determining suitable, or even optimal, antenna hardware solutions for deploying such a large number of antennas in constrained physical spaces is still open. Here we analyse the potential benefits of using compact arrays, dual-polarized arrays, and 2D arrays in outdoor scenarios using a realistic 3D spatial channel model and accurate antenna electromagnetic simulations. In particular we show that it is detrimental to reduce the distance between elements below lambda/3. Actually, better performances can be achieved by increasing the number of antennas using dual polarization instead (if random polarization of user antennas is assumed). We also show that good performance can be achieved by using 2D arrays, but at the expense of an increased number of total elements when compared to horizontal linear arrays.

In this paper, we consider the problem of under-determined direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation using coprime arrays from a ont-bit perspective, where the coarray correlations of the quantized sparse measurements are explored for augmented covariance matrix reconstruction. To fully utilize the coarray signals calculated from the one-bit coprime array measurements for DOA estimation, a correlation reconstruction problem is formulated to obtain the quantized covariance matrix corresponding to a filled coarray containing the discontiguous one, where the one-bit quantization transforms the possibilities of correlations from an infinite to a finite number. the performance of the proposed method is validated from the aspects of degrees-of-freedom (DOFs), estimation accuracy, as well as the resolution performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method not only retains full achievable DOFs of the coprime array, but is also capable of presenting a better DOA estimation performance than the non-quantization approaches.

Mechanical cardiac activity may be monitored with phonocardiographic (PCG) signals giving access to cardiac sounds. However, many noises interfere with cardiac information in raw signals and denoising such signals is necessary before interpretation. Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is of interest for time-frequency representations to separate noise and signal components. In this paper, to exploit the quasi-periodicity of the PCG, a quasi-periodic NMF (QP-NMF), based on multiplicative updates derived from a Majoration-Minimization algorithm, is proposed to decompose the PCG spectrograms. Numerical simulations show the good behavior of the proposed method to separate quasi-periodic components from the others. Finally, applied on real noisy PCG signals, QP-NMF shows its interest compared to an unsupervised NMF to denoise PCG signals.
