this paper focuses on a camera image processing system suitable for cost-effective single-sensor imaging devices such as image-enabled wireless phones and pocket-size imaging devices. the color filter array (CFA) zooming, CFA interpolation and CFA based postprocessing steps, employed in the proposed system, are unified to use a simple linear interpolator defined over the Bayer CFA components. Using the spectral correlation characteristics expressed through the differences between the available color components, the proposed system eliminates color artifacts in the enlarged, full color camera output.

A laser-based contactless displacement measurement system developed at the National Optics Institute is used for data acquisition to analyze the mechanical vibrations exhibited by vibrating structures and machines. the analysis of these vibrations requires a number of signal processing operations which include the determination of the system conditions through a classification of various observed vibration signatures and the detection of changes in the vibration signature in order to identify possible trends. this information is also combined with the physical characteristics and contextual data (operating mode, etc.) of the system under surveillance to allow the evaluation of certain characteristics like fatigue, abnormal stress, life span, etc., resulting in a high level classification of mechanical behaviours and structural faults according to the type of application. the aim of this paper is to introduce the problem, the instrumentation, and the requirements in terms of statistical signal processing. © 1994 ieee.

A novel iterative localization algorithm based on Particle Filter with error control is proposed in this paper. First, each node's location is estimated by a cloud of particles and their weights. Second, Degree of Inconsistency(DoI) is proposed to detect the nodes with high error. DoI makes full use of the fact that node density is high and they are randomly and uniformly distributed. the nodes with large error could be gradually identified by DoI and their estimated locations are then updated wisely to get higher accuracy. the proposed algorithm only needs local information and it is implemented in a distributive way. Simulation results show that the proposed error control strategy can solve error propagation problem successfully and provide relative high accuracy, especially in network with high ranging error and low beacon density.

We address the design of a particle filter (PF) that can be implemented in a distributed manner over a network of wireless sensor nodes, each of them collecting their own local data. this is a problem that has received considerable attention lately and several methods based on consensus, the transmission of likelihood information, the truncation and/or the quantization of data have been proposed. However, all existing schemes suffer from limitations related either to the amount of required communications among the nodes or the accuracy of the filter outputs. In this work we propose a novel distributed PF that is built around the distributed resampling with non-proportional allocation (DRNA) algorithm. this scheme guarantees the properness of the particle approximations produced by the filter and has been shown to be both efficient and accurate when compared with centralized PFs. the standard DRNA technique, however, places stringent demands on the communications among nodes that turn out impractical for a typical wireless sensor network (WSN). In this paper we investigate how to reduce this communication load by using (i) a random model for the spread of data over the WSN and (ii) methods that enable the out-of-sequence processing of sensor observations. A simple numerical illustration of the performance of the new algorithm compared with a centralized PF is provided. © 2011 ieee.

In this paper, we present a polarized frequency diverse array (PFDA) beampattern synthesis method, which realizes polarization control with a polarimetric separation perspective, and realizes range-angle beampattern decoupling with nonlinear frequency increments optimized by ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO). theoretical analyses and simulation results show that: 1. Frequency increments optimized by ACO are superior to logarithmic frequency increments and frequency increments optimized by genetic algorithm in terms of main-lobe width and sidelobes levels of beampattern;2. the polarimetric separation transforms the beampattern synthesis of PFDA into the beampattern synthesis of its two subarrays. It is worth noting that when the structure of vector sensor is one or more pairs of COLD (concentered orthogonal loop and dipole), calculation amount can be reduced by half while polarization control can be realized. © 2021 ieee.

We propose a methodology to determine the occurrence of falls from among other common human movements. the source data is collected by wearable and mobile platforms based on three-axis accelerometers to measure subject kinematics. Our signal processing consists of preprocessing, pattern recognition and classification. One problem with data acquisition is the extensive variation in the morphology of acceleration signals of different patients and under various conditions. We explore several effective key features that can be used for classification of physical movements. Our objective is to enhance the accuracy of movement recognition. We employ classifiers based on neural networks and k-nearest neighbors. Our experimental results exhibit an average of 84% accuracy in movement tracking for four distinct activities over several test subjects.

sensor technology has developed in parallel with advances in the fields of electronics and computing. Beyond obtaining a suitable sensing element, stringent demands on accuracy has led to continued developments in the improvement of compensation and calibration techniques. Typically, signal conditioning would attempt to minimize the effects of zero offsets and nonlinear temperature and pressure effects. Conventional analogue compensation methods have been phased out in favour of digital methods which provide a lower cost solution due to the reduction in test and calibration time. However, digital methods currently employed have been deemed to be insufficiently accurate or highly memory intensive, thus there is a need for an alternative approach that provides a compromise between the above. the use of neural networks may offer this compromise, with the added advantage of possessing certain characteristics that could contribute to the development of a smart transducer.

An iterative blind self-synchronizing MMSE receiver with a J-element antenna array for asynchronous DS-CDMA signals is developed in this paper. the primary requirement is knowledge of the desired user's signature sequence. A computationally efficient IIR-filter version of the proposed receiver is developed that utilizes a correlation-sub tract ion architecture based on the multistage reduced-rank Wiener filter introduced by Goldstein and Reed. this technique eliminates the tasks of an explicit estimation of the covariance matrix and its inversion. Moreover, this multistage scheme achieves a rapid adaptive convergence and improves the tracking ability at a relatively small amount of observed data. these features contribute significantly to the reduction of the computational cost and make possible for practical realization. © 2003 ieee.

this paper discusses the modeling of acoustic emissions in plate structures and their sensing by embedded or surface bonded piezoelectric sensor arrays. three different modeling efforts for acoustic emission (AE) wave generation and propagation are discussed briefly along with their advantages and disadvantages. Continuous sensors placed at right angles on a plate are being discussed as a new approach to measure and locate the source of acoustic waves. Evolutionary novel signal processing algorithms and bio-inspired distributed sensor array systems are used on large structures and integrated aerospace vehicles for AE source localization and preliminary results are presented. these systems allow for a great reduction in the amount of data that needs to be processed and also reduce the chances of false alarms from ambient noises. It is envisioned that these biomimetic sensor arrays and signal processing techniques will be useful for both wireless and wired sensor arrays for real time health monitoring of large integrated aerospace vehicles and earth fixed civil structures. the sensor array architectures can also be used with other types of sensors and for other applications.
