the patternrecognition problem in RICH counters concerns the identification of an unknown number of imperfect roughly-circular rings made of a low number of discrete points in presence of background. In this paper we present some preliminary results obtained using the Possibilistic C-Spherical Shell algorithm. In particular, we show that the algorithm is very tolerant and robust to noise (outliers rate) level. Moreover, for complex images full of rings, we introduce an iterative scheme that greatly improves performances. Besides that, the rings are not requested to be complete, only arcs are enough to recognize the underlying rings by the algorithm.

Motif Finding is one of the most important tasks in gene regulation which is essential in understanding biological cell functions. Based on recent studies, the performance of current motif finders is not satisfactory. A number of ensemble methods have been proposed to enhance the accuracy of the results. Existing ensemble methods overall performance is better than stand-alone motif finders. A recent ensemble method, MotifVoter, significantly outperforms all existing stand-alone and ensemble methods. In this paper, we propose a method, MProfiler, to increase the accuracy of MotifVoter without increasing the run time by introducing ail idea called center profiling. Our experiments show improvement in the quality of generated clusters over MotifVoter in both accuracy and cluster compactness. Using 56 datasets, the accuracy of the final results using our method achieves 80% improvement in correlation coefficient nCC, and 93% improvement in performance coefficient nPC over MotifVoter.

Lubrication fault is difficult to determine in gear-box because of multi-parameters in oil monitoring. A patternrecognition method of gear-box lubricating fault diagnosis based on Rough Neural Network is presented. Considering the multiple faults in complex fault diagnosis system such as wind turbine gear-box, dimension reducing of numerous monitoring parameters by rough set theory is introduced. And a multiple-layer BP neural network is constructed for completing fault patternrecognition. the analytic results reveal that the presented method is effective to composite fault diagnosis in oil analysis. And not only a large quantity of time and energy of the expert can be saved, but efficiency and reliability can be enhanced.

Genes with similar expression profiles are expected to be functionally related or co-regulated. In this direction, clustering microarray time-series data via pairwise alignment of piece-wise linear profiles has been recently introduced. We propose a k-means clustering approach based on a multiple alignment of natural cubic spline representations of gene expression profiles. the multiple alignment is achieved by minimizing the sum of integrated squared errors over a tune-interval, defined oil a, set of profiles. Preliminary experiments on a well-known data set of 221 pre-clustered Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene expression profiles yields excellent results with 79.64% accuracy.

Studies about the variation of DNA methylation pattern under high temperature stress (37 degrees C ) contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the apparent regulation of biological functions. Based on the in vitro cultivation of genetically modified birch (Betula platyphylla Suk.) clones for high-temperature stress, the paper detected exogenous gene transcription level differences with RT-PCR. Methylationsensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP) analysis the variation of DNA methylation pattern in transgenic birch. In this paper we used ten pairs of primers MSAP to deal with genetically modified DNA screening birch. the study revealed that high temperature stress can lead the level of transcriptional expression of transgene decrease, while endogenous levels of DNA methylation, including the overall methylation, the lateral semi-cytosine methylation as well as the inside of cytosine methylation level of the whole is almost twice than the control.

Changbai Mountain is one of the most important area in northeast of China where large area of temperate forests distribute. Lushuihe Forestry Bureau, located in the center of the region, was selected as a study site. We calculated the areas of different forest landscapes and selected MPS and CONTAG landscape indexes to carry out landscape pattern analysis for Lushuihe from 1987 to 2003 based on forest inventory data and GIS. the results showed that forest landscape in Lushuihe during 1987-1995 was more fragmented than that during 1995-2003 as a result of different logging styles and forestry managements, especially after National Forest Conversation Program (NFCP) in 1998. But the forest ecosystem in Lushuihe is still vulnerable. How to keep the integrity of forest landscape should be taken more considerations in future ecosystem management in order to realize sustainable forestry.
