Household garbage images are highly diverse in color, texture and geometry, which poses significant challenges to garbage classification. Deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) have recently achieved remarkable progress due to their ability to learn high-level feature representations. It usually requires a large number of labelled image data for training a DCNN model. However, there are few public and mature data sets concerned on household garbage images. this severely limits the progress of research and the state of the art is not entirely clear. To address this problem, we introduce a new benchmark data set for household garbage image classification. this data set is called 30 Types of Household Garbage Images (HGI-30), which contains 6′000 images of 30 household garbage types, with complex backgrounds, different resolutions, and complicated variations in sample, pose, illumination and background. the publicly available HGI-30 data set allows researchers to develop more accurate and robust methods for both household garbage image processing and interpretation analysis of household garbage object. We further study the classification problem on this data set and propose a transfer learning based method, also provide a performance analysis, which serves as baseline result on this benchmark. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Understanding the influence of configuration options on performance is key for finding optimal system configurations, system understanding, and performance debugging. In prior research, a number of performance-influence modeling approaches have been proposed, which model a configuration option's influence and a configuration's performance as a scalar value. However, these point estimates falsely imply a certainty regarding an option's influence that neglects several sources of uncertainty within the assessment process, such as (1) measurement bias, (2) model representation and learning process, and (3) incomplete data. this leads to the situation that different approaches and even different learning runs assign different scalar performance values to options and interactions among them. the true influence is uncertain, though. there is no way to quantify this uncertainty with state-of-the-art performance modeling approaches. We propose a novel approach, P4, based on probabilistic programming that explicitly models uncertainty for option influences and consequently provides a confidence interval for each prediction of a configuration's performance alongside a scalar. this way, we can explain, for the first time, why predictions may cause errors and which option's influences may be unreliable. An evaluation on 12 real-world subject systems shows that P4's accuracy is in line with the state of the art while providing reliable confidence intervals, in addition to scalar predictions.

Traditional control plane uses finite state machine to control processing logic and to run operating logic. When extending protocol states, it is necessary to re-design control plane and re-develop software application. In order to achieve programmable control plane, we propose a Logic Independent Control Plane Architecture (LICPA for short), which adopts behavior tree to separate processing logic and operating logic. It introduces action template including action, transfer condition and effect to describe the processing logic of control plane. Meanwhile, it automatically establishes BT tree of operating logic by traversing the action template, and periodically traverses BT tree to run the operating logic of control plane. When modifying protocol state, LICPA just modifies the action template, and immediately operates the modified logic, which does not need to re-design and re-develop the control plane. the experimental results show that LICPA has obvious advantages in modularity and scalability, which provides a practical way for the programming control plane.

Emerging trends, driven by industry 4.0 and Big Data, are pushing to combine optimization techniques with Decision Support Systems (DSS). the use of DSS can reduce the risk of uncertainty of the decision-maker regarding the economic feasibility of a project and the technical design. Designing a DSS can be very hard, due to the inherent complexity of these types of systems. therefore, monolithic software architectures are not a viable solution. this paper describes the DSS developed for an Italian company based on a micro-services architecture. In particular, the services handle geo-referenced information to solve a multi-trip vehicle routing problem with time windows. To face the problem, we follow a two-step approach. First, we generate a set of routes solving a vehicle routing problem with time windows using a metaheuristic algorithm. Second, we calculate the interval in which each route can start and end, and then combine the routes together, with an integer linear programming model, to minimize the number of used vehicles. this study's objective is to solve mining knowledge issue from different sources of distributed, formatted or unformatted data with diverse data semantics. the issue is formulated as data mining in knowledge grid. In particular, this paper presented a DM-GRID (data mining in grid) model based on software architecture of a novel infrastructure for distributed and high-performance data mining in knowledge grid. the DMGRID model is characterized by transparent conversions between heterogeneous data formats using MDI (metadata information), communication models from one to the other sources of data using broadcasting, and united programming interfaces. this model of Data Mining GRID conducts an accessprocessing application on grids. To study the effects of the proposed model, the experiment based on mining association rules in PC cluster are designed and implemented. the result shows that DB-GRID is feasible. this study's conclusions indicate that model could provide a possible thoughtful method of integration on large-scale distributed data mining.

Economic dispatch is one of the mathematical optimization problems in power system operation and planning. It aims to find the most efficient output for generating units that meets the demand of the load at the lowest possible cost while satisfy all operational constraints. this paper examines numerous methods to address the economic dispatch problem, including deterministic approaches like the Lagrange multiplier method, metaheuristic optimization algorithms such as the Genetic Algorithm, the Firefly Algorithm, the Harris-Hawks optimization algorithm, and their hybridizations. the study also utilizes PowerWorld Simulator, a software package that solves economic dispatch problems using sequential linear programming. Two different case studies have been conducted on IEEE 5-bus and 30-bus test systems for demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. the results of various case studies showed that the deterministic methods are the most effective for solving the economic dispatch problem. It was also shown that the hybrid algorithms, which combine the strengths of different optimization techniques, can achieve a significant enhancement in total cost compared to the conventional metaheuristic methods.

We investigate a single machine scheduling problem with a fixed unavailability interval on machine and rejection job. the objective is to minimize the sum of the flow-time of the accepted jobs and penalties of rejected jobs. For the demonstrated NP-hard problem, we first propose a dynamic programming algorithm for solving small scale problem optimally. Further we propose an approximation algorithm to obtain a better worst case bound.

Phasor Measurement Unit(PMU) is more and more concerned in power distribution network due to its great benefit. In near future, it may become an essential device in the modern distribution systems. the Optimal PMU Placement(OPP) problem on transmission network for full system observability, was fully done. However, in distribution network the change of configuration in normal operation and contingency modes has a very large impact to find the location of PMUs on network. Some methods have been proposed to solve this problem however the researchers had to spend lot of effort to calculate the system data in all configurations of network. this paper proposes a new solution to find the optimal location of PMUs, which can ensure the full system observability in all operation configurations of distribution network with calculating only based on one configuration. To justify the methodology of solution, the simulations on IEEE RBTS-2 bus and 33 buses distribution systems are presented for experiment. the results of this study show that the proposed solution is effective and feasible.

Data fusion is one of the research hotspots in the field of wireless sensor network. In allusion to the problem of excessive energy consumption of existing fusion methods, a data fusion scheme with minimized energy consumption is proposed in this article on the basis of the compressed sensing theory. Firstly, the influence of different fusion modes on data collection performance is analyzed;then, the influence of route and mixed CS fusion on energy optimization is considered in order to model the data fusion problem into the mixed integer programming problem with minimized energy consumption, and meanwhile a greedy algorithm based on fusion node increase is proposed to solve the above problem, wherein all nodes in the network are divided into fusion nodes used for CS encoding and forwarding nodes used for directly forwarding their own data and the received data;finally, a data fusion tree with minimized energy consumption is obtained. the result of the simulation experiment shows that the scheme proposed in this article is effective and superior to the traditional methods in the aspects of data recovery accuracy, network life cycle, etc.

Application layer multicast is probably the most efficient scheme to sustain the group communication for delay sensitive applications in Internet due to its rapid deployment. However, the problem of building a degree-constrained minimum delay application layer multicast tree is proven to be NP-hard. In this paper, we investigate this optimization problem and propose a distributed protocol to explore the method of constructing distribution tree based on members' relative position in underlying network, which utilizes physical network topology information to assist the optimizing of delivery tree through employing proximity aware technique for overlay network. Evaluation results show our scheme achieves efficiency as well as may support real time applications effectively.
