Urine sediment detection is an essential aid in assessing kidney health. Traditional machine learning approaches treat urine sediment particle detection as an image classification task, segmenting particles for detection based on information such as edges or thresholds. However, the segmentation of sediment particles is complex due to the low contrast and weak edge characteristics of urine sediment images. In this paper, we consider urine sediment particle detection as a object detection task and propose the YOLOv5s-CBL, a detector dedicated to particle detection. Specifically, to mitigate the impact of background noise on detection accuracy, we inherit CBAM on the YOLOv5s model to help the network filter useless noise information and find regions of interest to extract target features. then, we expand the original three-scale feature layer to improve the sensitivity of the model to larger-scale target sediment particles. Finally, we use the BiFPN structure instead of the original PANet combined with the FPN structure, which can more effectively fuse multiple different scales of information to improve the detection performance of the model. We compared state-of-the-art methods on two real-world datasets, and the experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of YOLOv5s-CBL. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, an optimal guidance algorithm is proposed for atmospheric ascent. the optimal guidance algorithm updates the reference trajectory to deal with the impact of disturbance by solving an optimal control problem on-board. For the strong nonlinear ascent dynamic, the optimal control problem is transformed into nonlinear programming problem by trajectory discretization. the direct optimization method is implemented for this nonlinear programming problem. Only a segment of the reference trajectory is updated by the optimal guidance algorithm. Due to the small amount of the discrete nodes and the initial guess solution which is close to the optimization solution, the direct optimization method is fast enough to generate a new reference trajectory. Numerical simulation for the Generic Hypersonic Vehicle model and scramjet engine is done for different cases of the aerodynamic coefficient bias. the results show the accuracy and the effectiveness of this optimal guidance algorithm.

the purpose of this work was to re-examine the reasons for the appearance of power doppler artifact referred to as "twinkling" artifact, which is usually observed in hyperechoic regions and which introduces ambiguity in diagnosis. Two key parameters: physical dimensions of the analyzed object and its roughness or irregular shape were initially considered. Several tests were done on Renal and artificially generated stones in order to visualize twinkling artifact and to obtain meaningful results. It is shown that “Radiation force” which is generated by a change in the energy density of an incident acoustic field, causes an oscillation with a frequency equal to the PRF1 of the sonography device and therefore movement in the object being imaged which will cause the twinkling artifact. this artifact is modeled in the MATLAB programming language. the radiation force factor causing the vibration is applied to a stone which is assumed to be made of some random scatterers. the velocity of the scatterers movement which is causing the appearance of the twinkling artifact is calculated. Later the effects of different vibration parameters on the production of the twinkling artifact are shown. It is shown that the increase in vibration amplitude and frequency, both cause a velocity increase of the object being imaged. the size of the object being imaged has an indirect influence on the production of this artifact, while the roughness of the object intensifies the artifact.

We propose a new fuzzy clustering algorithm by incorporating constrained class uncertainty-based entropy for brain MR image segmentation. Due to deficiencies of MRI machines, the brain MR images are affected by noise and intensity inhomogeneity (IIH), resulting unsharp tissue boundaries with low resolution. As a result, standard fuzzy clustering algorithms fail to classify pixels properly, especially using only pixel intensity values. We mitigate this difficulty by introducing entropy that measures constrained class uncertainty for each pixel. the value of this entropy is more for the pixels in the unsharp tissue boundaries. Apart from using the fuzzy membership function, we also define the similarity as the complement of a measure characterized by a Gaussian density function in non-Euclidean space to reduce the affect of noise and IIH. By introducing a regularization parameter, the trade-off between the fuzzy membership function and class uncertainty-based measure is resolved. the proposed algorithm is assessed both in qualitatively and quantitatively on several brain MR images of a benchmark database and two clinical data. the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms some of the fuzzy-based state-of-the-art methods devised in recent past when evaluated in terms of cluster validity functions, segmentation accuracy and Dice coefficient. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

Not all data sharing patterns can benefit from the write invalidate strategy in multi-core systems. When handling serialized synchronizations, such as lock, barrier etc., long delays and large amount of cache coherence traffic caused by invalidations introduce performance bottlenecks. this paper introduces a privately non-cacheable strategy (PNCS), which favors the maintenance of shared data exhibiting write-once characteristic, like locks, used in synchronizations among threads by not caching the corresponding data block in the private caches but the shared last-level cache. While cooperating with traditional cache coherence protocol MESI, PNCS implements data forwarding of a shared lock to the next sharer waiting in the request queue at the last-level cache (LLC) without incurring another round of LLC lookup. Simulation results reported that PNCS can accelerate acquisition of the variable by the requesters while cutting down the invalidation traffic during a synchronization phase. By creating applications that involve large-scale thread synchronization under parallel programming directives, results demonstrated that PNCS scales within multi-core systems. In the scenario of 64-thread lock synchronization, the average latency of contending requests can be reduced to about 73% of that in “cache lock”, which is a strict write invalidate strategy proposed by Intel.

the increased use of biometrics in the present scenario has led to the concerns over security and privacy of the enrolled users. this is because the biometric traits like face, iris, ear, etc., are not cancelable or revocable. In case if the templates are compromised, the imposters may gain illegitimate access. To resolve such issues, a simple yet powerful technique called "random permutation-based linear discriminant analysis" for cancelable biometric recognition has been proposed in this paper. the proposed technique is established on the notion of a cancelable biometric system through which the biometric templates can be revoked and renewed. the proposed technique accepts the cancelable biometric template and a key (called PIN) issued to the user. the user’s identity is recognized only when both cancelable biometric template and PIN are valid, else the user is prohibited. the performance of the proposed technique is demonstrated on the freely available face (ORL), iris (UBIRIS), and ear (IITD) datasets against state-of-the-art methods. the key benefits of the proposed technique are (i) classification accuracy remains unaffected by using random permutation and (ii) robustness across different biometric traits. © 2021, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Nowadays vehicles are highly customizable products. Indeed, they can be equipped with a great number of options directly chosen by the customers. this situation provides several harness design problems to automotive companies, where by harness we mean the set of conducting wires (cables), positioned within the vehicle frame (chassis), which transmit information and electrical power to the options to make them operative. In this context we focus on an optimization problem arising in the construction and assembly phase of the harness within a vehicle. the options selected by customers have to be connected through a harness shaped in a tree structure within the vehicle chassis. In particular, the wiring has to connect subsets composed of two or more options. the total length of the connecting cables could be very large if a dedicated cable would be used for each couple of options in each subset. this length can be significantly reduced by realizing the connection through the usage of cable weldings. this work introduces for the first time the problem of the optimal placement of the weldings on the wiring harness tree of a vehicle, aimed at minimizing the total length and/or the cost of the cables, weighted by their gauge. the problem can be schematized as a p-median problem (PMP) on a tree in a continuous and discrete domain, with additional technological constraints related to the welding positions and mutual distance. this work proposes an integer linear programming model and a matheuristic aimed at finding exact and/or heuristic solutions for this constrained PMP. the efficiency and the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies have been proved through the solution of test instances built from real data provided by an automotive company. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

the language model, which has its roots in statistical natural language processing, has been shown to successfully capture the predictable regularities of source code, and help with many software tasks, such as code suggestion, code porting, and bug detection. However, learning long-range dependencies is still a big challenge at present for modeling programming language. In this paper, we explore deep learning techniques to strengthen it, with a novel neural language model for software code (NLM4Code) proposed. this model is mainly constructed by a recurrent neural network and augmented with a modified key-value-predict attention mechanism, which can effectively facilitate learning context dependencies of source code in a simpler way. To evaluate the effectiveness, five language models are selected as the baselines on a dataset of 2.03M lines of Java code. the experimental results show NLM4Code is much better than traditional n-gram models and outperforms a state-of-the-art method by 3.12% in perplexity index.

In this paper we propose the SPARE C++ Library as a flexible tool for solving data driven modelling problems,where the domain space is not necessary constrained to be the set of real valued *** possibility to face Pattern Recognition problems directly on structured domains (multimedia data,strings,graphs) is fundamental to the effective solution of many interesting applications in the field of content based retrieval and Knowledge *** an instance of this particular characteristic of SPARE,we considered a clustering problem defined in the string domain,focusing on the problem of cluster representation in data domains where only a dissimilarity measure can be *** this aim we propose to adopt the MinSOD (Minimum Sum of Distances) defined as the element of a cluster minimizing the sum of dissimilarities from all the other elements in the considered *** the precise computation of the MinSOD have a high computational cost,we propose a suboptimal procedure consisting in computing the representative of the cluster considering only a reduced pool of samples,instead of the whole set of objects in the *** have carried out some tests in order to ascertain the sensitivity of the clustering procedure with respect to the number of samples in the pool used to compute the *** show a good robustness of the proposed *** implementation is available as part of the SPARE library,published as an open source project.
