this article provides a concise analysis of the current limitations in PV systems and suggests improving the feasibility of engineering applications through the integration of energy storage devices, thereby establishing a distributed photovoltaic storage system model. Utilizing historical load and photovoltaic data from a company in South China, the study employs optimization programming software to achieve operational economic optimization on a typical day. Furthermore, it explores the economic advantages of the distributed photovoltaic storage system over an extended time scale in practical engineering scenarios.

Developing computer programming and problem-solving skills are fundamental skills for the future of those who obtain training in the science, Technology, engineering and Math (STEM) areas. Two simple and basic ways to develop these skills are through flowcharts and pseudocode. the aim of this research is to identify the advantages of using these two methodologies for teaching computer programming and problem solving and how each can help the other, as well as carrying out a survey of the tools currently available to support teaching and finally build a simple, intuitive and easy-to-use web tool that allows you to easily convert between flowcharts and pseudocode. the web tool developed meets the requirements of being simplicity, intuitively and easy-to-use and allows conversion between flowcharts and pseudocode, becoming an important aid to students who can now use it to study anytime and anywhere. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Timetabling is a combinatorial and challenging problem in different fields where it is required to allocate scarce resources. One of the main variants is the University Course Timetabling Problem (UCTP), where courses must take a location and the academic sessions must be distributed avoiding overlapping schedules or preference conflicts. Despite the high complexity of its solution, it is increasingly necessary to include more realistic characteristics and formulate efficient models. In this paper, new realistic features focused on the development of student’s curriculum are included and a mixed-integer linear programming model is proposed to address this problem. the model’s objective is to maximize all teacher’s preferences and reduce the overlaps between courses that can be viewed either in advance or delayed. the proposed model was validated in the timetabling in the Industrial engineering Program at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, Colombia. the results show an increase of 47.7% regarding the preferences of the professors, as well as a reduction of 99.37% of the time associated with the semester scheduling process and currently, the perception of students is being assessed as they progress through the semesters, with preliminary results indicating an increase in satisfaction. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the present study focuses on optimizing the internal transportation fleet of a Peruvian university using a linear programming model to adjust the size of the fleet. through a quantitative and descriptive approach, user data was collected at 10 stops for 30 days, where a linear programming mathematical model was applied to optimize the size of the internal transport fleet, the solution of which was achieved through the use of the Solver add-on Excel. the results indicated that the optimal fleet is 2 units, which improves transportation planning and management, providing a more effective and satisfactory service. the research highlights the need for formal optimization methods to address university-level mobility problems. It demonstrates that route optimization can significantly reduce congestion and improve operational efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient transport service. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization and integer programming problem. In the world of computing, modern vehicle routing is more focused but aligned with the GPS-based coordinate system, as the state-of- the-art vehicle, and trucking fleets are equipped with the most recent digital navigation, and coordination system. In this paper, a number of two dimensional coordinate-based algorithms for addressing the vehicle routing problem for a supply chain network covered through a delivery trucking fleet are proposed and analyzed, and the algorithms are compared with other available, and the most recent heuristics in the literature. For the algorithms discussed, which includes a proposed coordinate-based heuristic search as well, the advantages and the disadvantages associated with each heuristic is further elaborated. the proposed algorithms are navigated with specific application focus to a moderate sized supermarket chain delivery network that supplies to its stores in four different states around the East Coast area, and is trying to optimize its trucking delivery cost. Minimizing the delivery cost from the warehouse to the retail stores in the supply chain network of a supermarket distributor is important to ensure its business success, and also to thrive and survive in the competitive grocery and food chain supply industry. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the HVAC system, energy storage building, distributed power supply, and other equipment are integrated into the scheduling algorithm, which is aimed at reducing household electricity consumption. It is also assumed that users can provide energy to the grid according to their own conditions. Taking electricity cost and comfort level as optimization targets, a home energy optimization control model for the coordinated management of hybrid energy sources is built. A smart scheduling mechanism based on the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization approach is proposed in order to derive the best time intervals for electric appliances, necessary power for the control of the room temperature for every time frame, and power for charging and discharging of the storage battery at various moments. Simulation results show that through the incorporation of distributed photovoltaic power generation, backup storage by battery, and home energy optimization control, the system efficiently balances between user comfort and electricity consumption. this offers great technical support to the development of home energy management systems. By using time-of-use electricity price for energy acquisition and supply, the optimization control goal is minimizing both power use and cost as well as preserving comfort levels. the hybrid energy management's proposed home energy optimization control model uses an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal operation schedules of the electrical appliances, the required power for temperature control in a room, and the charge/discharge power level of the storage battery at each time interval. As per the optimization principle, the proposed dynamic programming algorithm converts the multi-stage problem into a sequence of single-stage problems and solves them separately. this method successfully resolves intricate problems that cannot be addressed through greedy algorithms or divide-and-conquer.
