As a variety of computing devices have been developed and the Internet helps them to provide various content services in ubiquitous computing environments, users want higher quality of such services. Existing approaches focus on 3D content rendering by a remote server in order to solve the limitation of low-end devices. In this paper, we propose a distributed rendering mechanism for 2D content using multiple servers. Since large 2D image stylization also requires high computation overhead to render an image, a low-end client partition it into several image pieces. Each piece is sent to a different server, which then performs rendering. A client merges the rendered pieces to one output image again. the proposed method enables large images to be rendered by collaboration of multiple servers with reasonable processing and communication cost. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

One of the fundamental issues of human and computational cognitive psychology is pattern or shape recognition. Various applications in image processing and computer vision rely on skeleton-like shape features A possible technique for extracting these feautures is thinning. Although the majority of 2D thinning algorithms work on digital pictures sampled on the conventional square grid, the role of some non-conventional grids, like the hexagonal and triangular grid, are of increasing importance as well. In this paper we propose numerous topology preserving parallel thinning algorithms that work on the triangular grid.

Traditional paper maps display information following the well-known rules based on experiences gathered during centuries. Nowadays, more and more geospatial information is represented in digital form and we have to face new challenges when trying to find the best solution for the geovisualization. the Hungarian digital Toponym Registry is developed due to a cross-discipliner collaboration to store, manage, analyze and visualize toponyms. this paper presents some issues concerning the geovisualization with some comments about their cognitive aspects.

A reconfigurable processor is a microprocessor with erasable hardware that can rewire itself dynamically. this allows the chip to adapt effectively to the programming tasks demanded by the particular software they are interfacing with at any given time. To modify the ALU architecture of DAPDNA-2 reconfigurable processor in order to enhance its computational capabilities for digital image/Signal processing applications, we have proposed to reduce the size of ALU from 32-bit (existing) to 8, 16 or 32-bit by employing the technique of ALU Partitioning as typical DIP/DSP applications generally consist of 8 or 16-bit data types. Also, employing Saturation can help us prevent overflows as any further increment in the register values from the maximum, is supposed to be discarded for graphics applications e.g. EA2Ch + D12Ah = FFFFh. © 2012 IEEE.

General-purpose computing on graphics processing unit (GPGPU) has been applied to many different fields from solving mathematical problem to a protein folding simulation with remarkable *** has been achieved because the computing power of the latest GPU architecture has significantly overtaken the existing commonly used CPU,and the new NVIDIA CUDA (Compute Unified device Architecture) technology makes GPU programming easier than *** this paper,we present a JPEG digital image compression on GPU using a new CUDA *** have implemented JPEG digital image compression on GPU and CPU respectively in two different testing system *** experiment has shown that JPEG digital image compression using CUDA technology is able to achieve a performance improvement of 50-107 times over the compression on CPU.

Most of image processing algorithms assume that an image has an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). However, since the real noise is not AWGN, such algorithms are not effective with real images acquired by image sensors for digital camera. In this paper, we present an integrated noise model for image sensors that can handle shot noise, dark-current noise and fixed-pattern noise together. In addition, unlike most noise modeling methods, parameters for the model do not need to be re-configured depending on input images once it is made. thus the proposed noise model is best suitable for various imaging devices. We introduce two applications of our noise model: edge detection and noise reduction in image sensors. the experimental results show how effective our noise model is for both applications.

In this paper we consider the limitations of Linear Discriminative Analysis (LDA) when applying it for large-scale problems. Since LDA was originally developed for two-class problems the obtained transformation is sub-optimal if multiple classes are considered. In fact, the separability between the classes is reduced, which decreases the classification power. To overcome this problem several approaches including weighting strategies and mixture models were proposed. But these approaches are complex and computational expensive. Moreover, they were only tested for a small number of classes. In contrast, our approach allows to handle a huge number of classes showing excellent classification performance at low computational costs. the main idea is to split the original data into multiple sub-sets and to compute a single LDA space for each sub-set. thus, the separability in the obtained subspaces is increased and the overall classification power is improved. Moreover, since smaller matrices have to be handled the computational complexity is reduced for both, training and classification. these benefits are demonstrated on different publicly available datasets. In particular, we consider the task of object recognition, where we can handle up to 1000 classes.
