Historic urban areas face both natural and anthropogenic risks, which can appear slowly (e.g. increasing temperatures, air pollution), or suddenly (e.g. earthquakes, terrorist acts). these risks can alter user behaviour and can imply the necessity to activate emergency procedures. risk assessment and mitigation tasks should hence consider the interaction between multiple hazards affecting the built heritage and urban fabric, and by including the analysis on users' behaviours. this assumption is particularly relevant in the context of historic public open spaces, such as squares, where the convergence of hazard and building heritage vulnerability could be further intensified by critical levels of users' exposure and vulnerability. this work presents a multi-risk assessment and mitigation approach for squares, considering the presence of large crowds and simulating their response to slow and sudden emergencies. the methodology addresses the combined effects of increasing temperatures and terrorist acts using a probabilistic, multi-agent, and cellular automata-based model. the results are assessed using key performance indicators (KPIs), aimed at combining hazard, vulnerability, and exposure factors through expeditious and simulation-based methodologies. the approach is applied to Piazza dell'Odegitria, in the historic centre of Bari, Italy. Sustainable single and combined retrofitting solutions are proposed to reduce multi-risk by up to about 16%. these solutions are designed to be simple, compatible, reversible, and tailored to the square's characteristics. the results highlight the benefit of the investigated methodology allowing local authorities to evaluate various environmental and spatiotemporal configurations as preliminary strategies for risk mitigation in historic urban areas.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks pose a persistent threat to cloud infrastructure, often disrupting services and affecting legitimate user traffic. Traditional DDoS mitigation techniques, including network-based defenses and anomaly detection, are effective but frequently fail to handle complex, high-volume attacks in dynamic cloud environments. this study addresses the above-mentioned limitations by developing a scalable DDoS mitigation framework specifically for cloud infrastructure. We propose a dynamic and adaptive approach to DDoS detection that integrates real-time traffic analysis with automated and intelligent mitigation strategies. Unlike traditional methods, our solution emphasizes automated, real-time decision-making and adjusting defenses based on evolving attack patterns. this minimizes the need for manual intervention, enhances system resilience, and ensures quicker response to threats. A key contribution of this study is an automated DDoS mitigation mode that dynamically filters malicious traffic and employs CAPTCHA for legitimate users, thereby offering an efficient method for protecting cloud services. this framework is not intended to replicate existing solutions, such as Cloudflare, but instead serves as a novel approach for organizations to customize and scale their own DDoS mitigation systems. Furthermore, testing conducted in a controlled simulation environment evaluated the system's resilience to various attack types, including volumetric, application-layer, and IP spoofing attacks. the key findings reveal the system's capability to efficiently block malicious traffic while ensuring minimal disruption to legitimate users. Comparative analysis with Cloudflare demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach in terms of detection accuracy and resource efficiency.

this paper introduces an approach to simulate and analyze the impact of jamming and anti-jamming strategies on audio traffic, normal traffic and jamming that is applied to simulate attacks. In addition, a moving average filter is used to mitigate additional noise and detect suspicious activity, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of filtering in detecting suspicious activity peaks, which is relevant for intrusion detection systems in audio communications. the approach proposed in this paper is relevant to cybersecurity and intrusion detection in audio communications. As a matter of a fact, simulation of jamming attacks and evaluation of anti-jamming strategies are important to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of audio communications. thus, to conclude the use of a moving average filter to detect suspicious activity is an effective technique for noise mitigation and intrusion detection.

this paper aims to design and analyze the performance of parallel voltage source converters (VSCs) using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) topology and to control the output voltage and current of the VSCs using PI and fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs). the project studies the performance of the parallel VSCs with SVPWM in terms of total harmonic distortion (thD). the proposed SVPWM technique is grounded in recent advances in fuzzy logic optimization methods, known for their suitability in solving multi-objective problems. Utilizing fuzzy logic, the technique aims to determine optimum firing angles that minimize harmonic content. the system includes parallel VSCs, RL load, LC filter and grid. the methodology entails the simulation of parallel VSCs utilizing SVPWM topology in MATLAB/Simulink, introducing FLCs into the simulation, and subsequently evaluating the parallel VSCs' performance under SVPWM topology. Additionally, the stability and robustness of the parallel VSCs, integrating both SVPWM and FLCs, are systematically analyzed. the findings reveal that employing FLCs for controlling the output voltage and current in parallel VSCs leads to a notable reduction in thD compared to conventional control methods lacking optimization methods. Comparative assessments are conducted between the performance of parallel VSCs utilizing the SVPWM technique and FLCs versus SVPWM methods without optimization technique, with a thorough analysis of stability and robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

Quick response (QR) codes is a form of two-dimensional matrix barcode that can store information in a grid of black and white pixels which creates a unique pattern. the QR codes are usually scanned by mobile devices such as smartphones and will redirect the user's mobile devices to whatever URL the QR code contains. QR codes have grown in popularity due to their capabilities of redirecting to digital information or authenticating users [4]. this study implemented an explanatory research design. the study aims to describe, showcase, and investigate the different methods of quishing. To supplement the study, the researchers conducted a survey to better assess the knowledge of the peers around them. A survey was conducted to understand what the population thinks about QR codes and the underlying risks on its usage. the results of the QRJacking simulation were successful;the tool gained access to the target's Whatsapp. Outside of the success of the attack simulation, the research found that there were no restrictions when sending the Malicious QR code over messaging applications like Facebook Messenger, Discord, Whatsapp, and Viber. For future researchers, the researchers recommend using different apps, tools, and frameworks. Look into countermeasures and other methods of mitigation. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of various control algorithms for distribution static compensators (DSTATCOMs) in grid-connected wind energy systems. the integration of wind energy into grid systems presents significant challenges related to power quality (PQ), particularly in voltage stability, harmonic distortion and reactive power support. DSTATCOM is widely deployed to mitigate these issues. DSTATCOMs have emerged as effective solutions for enhancing PQ in grid-connected wind energy systems. the study focusses on classical control strategies such as synchronous reference frame theory (SRF), power balance theory (PBT) and Instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT). these control strategies are assessed based on their performance in enhancing grid stability, improving PQ and responding to dynamic wind conditions. the performance of each algorithm is evaluated through simulations, considering factors such as response time, power factor correction, harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation. PBT control algorithm is one of the best control techniques to improve PQ related issues. simulation results highlight the efficiency, robustness and adaptability of each algorithm, offering practical insights into their applicability in enhancing the stability of grid-connected wind energy systems. Basically, several loads are of nonlinear types such as medical instruments, computers, LED lights, air conditioners, computer power supplies, xerox machines and laser printing machines. DSTATCOM becomes most important for mitigation of harmonics and power factor correction for various nonlinear loads. the analysis provides a clear framework for selecting the most appropriate control method for DSTATCOM in wind energy applications, contributing to more reliable and efficient grid-connected wind energy systems. ©2024 IEEE.

In the study of zero-line heating fire hazard caused by the third harmonic, the harmonic content in a high harmonic incidence place is measured, and an indoor physical experiment platform is built as well. Based on the experimental platform, the third harmonic heating experiment on zero lines is carried out with different wire diameters. the heating pattern of zero lines under different working conditions is obtained, which could provide a certain experimental basis for electrical fire prevention in public places. Based on the COMSOL multi-physical field coupling simulation software, the third harmonic heating model of zero line is established, and the curve of temperature distribution gradient and zero line temperature is obtained. the comparison between simulation results and experimental results verifies the accuracy of the simulation model. It provides a theoretical method for a reasonable selection of zero-line diameter, arrangement of zero line layout, and prevention of electrical fire. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Aiming at the technical problem of insufficient positioning accuracy in monitoring and early warning of urban flooding, the research on the optimization of pseudo-range difference algorithm, the application of carrier phase algorithm, and the research on Internet of things and big data processing technology is carried out from the introduction of high-precision positioning technology, the real-time monitoring of the water level in inspection wells, and the fusion of data [1]. Using the pseudorange difference combined with carrier phase algorithm, big data analysis platform and other technical methods, the system realizes the high-precision determination of inspection well position, real-time monitoring and warning of water level, and intelligent processing and analysis of data. the system simulation experiment was carried out by applying professional simulation software, and when an abnormal situation occurs, it is able to send out warning information in time to remind the management personnel to manage [2]. the results show that the technical solution of intelligent flood prevention inspection well system based on pseudo-range differential joint carrier phase algorithm has feasibility and effectiveness in improving the efficiency of urban flood monitoring and early warning.

Power quality (PQ) has become a major concern in recent years. In order to maintain the proper PQ, it is important to detect the PQ problems through fault analysis and investigate for an adequate way to overcome the problems. Sag, which is a sudden decrease in voltage level, is the most common one in PQ problems almost covering 56% of the entire PQ problems. therefore, mitigation of voltage sag has drawn much attention. this paper represents the effectiveness of synchronous generator in investigation of Voltage Sag mitigation in Distribution Network. the selected system for this work is the IEEE 14 bus network. the simulation was carried out using MATLAB software. Two possible scenarios, when sag occurrence and the generator connection bus are same and when sag happens near one bus and the synchronous generator is connected to another bus are taken into consideration for simulation analysis. © 2021 IEEE.
