Adverse weather conditions like rain, fog and storm cause degradation in the quality of an image. computer vision operations such as detection, classification and various monitoring of objects activities are adversely affected due to image degradation. Hence, image enhancement is an important pre-processing step. We propose a method for the elimination of rain streaks from rain-affected images by making use of conditional generative adversarial networks. We have used structural similarity index measure and peak signal-to-noise ratio as evaluation metrics evaluate the model. We have tested our model on one synthetic and four real-world datasets and compared the performance with other state-of-the-art methods. We have obtained a generated image that has a close resemblance with the ground truth images. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

the term "creative AI" refers to a branch of computer science that automates the creation of unique pieces of art, music, and literature. It allows technology to replicate and help human beings in the creation of unique and imaginative items. DeepDream, a computer vision tool, uses a deep neural network to find and improve patterns in images. the approach works by submitting an image to a trained neural network, which recognizes specific elements or patterns in the image and amplifies and enhances them. the current DeepDream algorithm’s usage of a single image has the drawback of potentially producing overfitting, limiting the algorithm’s ability to produce images that differ from the input image. As a result, the variety and originality of the developed graphics may be constrained. To get around this problem, DeepDream algorithm was trained to use multiple images or a combination of images and noise, resulting in more varied and inventive outputs. this allows us to create imaginative films as well as numerous visuals using just two images. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Bangladesh is one of the countries struggling to prevent road accidents, which is a global cause for concern. An early warning system that indicates road conditions can contribute to the prevention task. For this purpose, a deep-learning based approach using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to learn from random road images the safety factor is developed. this results in a three-class categorization: (i) Severely risky roads, (ii) Mildly risky roads, and (iii) Normal roads. the application of deep learning techniques in this study yields an accuracy of 95.5% in detecting problematic road conditions. Furthermore, based on the study's findings, a mobile application has been developed. the app enables real-time crowdsourced data collection of road conditions and provides a platform for users to share this information in real-time with other drivers, thereby, contributing to prevent accidents and raise awareness among drivers and users by pinpointing the location of the risky road. Finally, crowdsourced data has been reused to update the trained model, which further improves the classifier accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have become one of the most powerful machine learning tools that cover a wide range of applications such as surveillance, video and image recognition, medical image analysis, control systems, robotics, bioinformatics, etc. these wide applications have encouraged researchers to search for more realistic neuron models that really mimic human biological neurons. Recent neurological research explored a set of new characteristics of biological neurons which led to generating the third-generation neural networks called Spiking Neural Networks (SNN). SNNs are more faithful to drawing biological properties which makes them energy-efficient and fast with higher processing capability. Many SNN models along with various learning algorithms have been proposed in the last decade to explore fast and efficient machine learning applications. In this paper, we have reviewed recent advancements in SNN architectures, their learning algorithms, applications, advantages, limitations and future scopes. the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of critical high voltage assets such as power transformers, overhead transmission lines and underground cables are affected by various factors including the asset's health state along with other operating and environmental conditions. Understanding the current-voltage characteristics of such assets is essential for reliable and efficient operation of power transmission and distribution networks. the measurement of such parameters does not call for additional hardware as it utilises easily accessible voltage and current data at both terminals of the asset. the I-V characteristic can be considered as a unique fingerprint for the asset during its normal operation. variations in the fingerprint can be easily detected using a proper software code. the variation can be observed in real time and analysed using digital image processing and artificial intelligence-based techniques to identify and quantify any abnormal event or a fault at early stage. this paper discusses the potential of using the I-V Lissajous pattern to detect incipient faults and abnormal events of high voltage assets. Some case studies on power transformer and overhead transmission line are presented. Results show that I-V Lissajous pattern is a promising technique for real time asset management of high voltage critical equipment. © 2023 IEEE.

As a new type of human-computer interaction, gesture recognition has gradually become an important research direction in the field of smart city construction. the traditional gesture recognition system relies on various types of sensors, which has high requirements for hardware and application environment. the recognition accuracy will be affected by the accuracy and service life of electronic components. therefore, there is an urgent need for natural and easy-to-understand, people-oriented new recognition technology based on computer platform. the OpenCV used in this paper is an open source computer vision library, which contains a wealth of image processing algorithms, which can be easily and quickly applied to gesture recognition systems. this paper makes a complete exploration of gesture recognition system based on OpenCV. Firstly, this paper studies the advantages and disadvantages of different skin color models for skin color detection, and selects a skin color model that is robust in both normal indoor environment and strong light conditions. Secondly, the gray image segmented by skin color is morphologically processed, and the contour frame of gesture information is taken by Fourier descriptor algorithm to obtain the position and boundary information of hand skin color region. then, this paper extracts and calculates the characteristics of the collected data, and uses the support vector machine algorithm to analyze the gesture recognition of the image captured by the camera. Finally, the above research modules are effectively collected, and the graphical interface is written by PyQT5 for human-computer interaction. the system design framework and the specific process of implementing the system are given. then a relatively complete experiment was carried out on the system to verify the accuracy of the recognition. © 2022 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in colonoscopy have shown promise in terms of improving disease detection and classification, such as polyp detection. However, specular reflections from the camera flash might have a detrimental influence on the inference process. We propose an adaptive deep reinforcement learning (DRL) model to enhance pre-trained polyp identification algorithms to eliminate specular reflections from colonoscopy video frames. the DRL model is trained to detect and reduce specular reflections in colonoscopy pictures while maintaining key characteristics. We test the feasibility of our DRL model by using it as a pre-processing step for cutting-edge polyp identification methods. the findings show that employing the DRL model to reduce specular reflections improves detection accuracy by 14.3% compared to the baseline polyp detection models. Our adaptive DRL technique successfully removes the reflection effect, causing inference performance issues in colonoscopy video processing. this proposed method opens the door to more accurate AI-assisted polyp identification during colon cancer assessment. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In recent years, with the continuous development of society, people's exploration in the field of machine vision images has gradually increased the demand for machine vision and digital image processing. Only the consistency comparison research of machine vision images based on the improved ORB algorithm, in order to obtain more complete image information. Based on the improved ORB algorithm, this paper conducts research by improving the consistency comparison of machine vision images, and meets the requirements of accuracy and precision for the obtained machine vision images and so on. this paper briefly introduces the technology and development trend of machine vision image consistency comparison, studies the machine vision image consistency comparison, and through a series of experiments to prove that the machine vision image consistency comparison based on the improved ORB algorithm is effective in To a certain extent, it has certain feasibility in terms of precision and accuracy. Analysis and comparison based on different image stitching methods were carried out. the final results of the research show that the accuracy of the five-consistency comparison of machine vision images is 98.7% when the distance of image five is 83.4 km. Experimental data show that the accuracy of machine vision image consistency comparison has always been maintained at a stable level, that is, 97%. It shows that the accuracy of machine vision image consistency comparison does not decrease with the increase of distance.

Table detection and structure recognition is an important component of document analysis systems. Deep learning-based transformer models have recently demonstrated significant success in various computer vision and document analysis tasks. In this paper, we introduce PyramidTabNet (PTN), a method that builds upon Convolutionless Pyramid vision Transformer to detect tables in document images. Furthermore, we present a tabular image generative augmentation technique to effectively train the architecture. the proposed augmentation process consists of three steps, namely, clustering, fusion, and patching, for the generation of new document images containing tables. Our proposed pipeline demonstrates significant performance improvements for table detection on several standard datasets. Additionally, it achieves performance comparable to the state-of-the-art methods for structure recognition tasks.

Fire is a disastrous event that causes immense dangers. Conventional fire detection methods use sensors in indoor settings. By contrast, computer vision-based methods have made substantial advancements in terms of detection accuracy, speed, and versatility. However, existing approaches often treat fire detection as image classification, image segmentation, and object detection problems, overlooking the characteristic of smoke, including its floatability, ambiguity, and transparency. To foster advancements in this field, we formalize fire detection as the image matting problem and introduce a novel smoke and fire matting dataset SFMatting-800. this dataset not only features high-quality annotations on transparency but also encompasses diverse information regarding scene types and fire attributes. these annotations serve as valuable resources for training, evaluating image matting models, and expanding data through compositing with a substantial background dataset. With SFMatting-800, we have conducted comprehensive evaluations using traditional image matting methods, trimap-based and trimap-free deep image matting methods. the experimental results not only demonstrate the value of our dataset for the fine-grained fire detection task, but also help to expose the problem of existing matting methods in processing extensive regions with high transparency and misidentification between background and targets. the dataset will be made publicly available. © 2023 Owner/Author.
