this paper addresses the challenge of enhancing realism in virtual reality (VR) environmental design, particularly by overcoming the limitations of traditional 3D plant modeling methods that fail to capture dynamic and temporal nuances across annual seasons. the approach integrates realistic, time-sensitive modifications into VR plant modeling. It employs a methodology where source images for instant neural graphics primitives (Instant-ngp) are preprocessed using a Stable Diffusion model optimized by a Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) focusing on tree structures. this preprocessing step enriches Instant-ngp's input data, enabling the creation of 4D plant models that exhibit both spatial detail and temporal dynamics, mirroring natural seasonal variations. Stable Diffusion and LoRA are applied beforehand to improve the realism of the generated models. Virtual source trees are utilized for testing and refining the approach, aiming to enhance the representation of plant models in VR environments. this research contributes to making VR simulations more immersive and realistic, with potential applications in virtual landscaping, urban planning, and therapeutic environments. the study acknowledges the initial nature of this research and the ongoing need for exploration to fully realize these applications' potential.

In the realm of lightweight materials in architecture, knitting as a discrete additive method has enabled the creation of functionally graded material (FGM). For the current research in encoding methods for knitting FGM materials, researchers tend to focus on a limited number of surface transitions to study localized material traits. However, designing at an architectural scale demands multiple hierarchical structures for smooth transitions due to amplified performance differences, resulting in a complex system. thus, organizing knitting units during encoding becomes crucial. this paper proposes a modulus-based encoding method for architectural knitting FGM materials, accommodating various surface types to create continuous gradient patterns. Based on the Grasshopper platform and STOLL machines, the method translates 3D models into machine encoding by using BMP (Bitmap) graphics. the method was successfully applied in a workshop in Tongji University. this research explores the fabrication of knitting FGM materials with multi-patterns in architecture, aiming to inspire innovative applications of fabrics in architecture.

To address the challenges posed by an aging society, computer-aided decision-making technology is employed to analyze the effects of implementing delayed retirement policies. through data analysis, scenario simulation, and optimization algorithms, this study examines the impact of the policy on the labor market, social insurance funds, and unemployment rates. the results indicate that the delayed retirement policy plays a positive role in alleviating social security pressures and optimizing labor supply. Additionally, by comparing and optimizing multiple plans, the sustainability and scientific validity of the policy can be significantly enhanced.

Rethinking conventional design and fabrication methods, this research presents a biomimetic fabrication-aware design workflow for building a lightweight pavilion. Exploring different natural organisms reveals that the optimized structures of diatoms (unicellular microalgae) could serve as a biological model to design a load-responsive lightweight pavilion. the interdisciplinary research outcome primarily involves translating diatoms' structural and symbolic logic to component modules populated on a given free-form shell. the generative design workflow enables the designer to continuously monitor quantitative metrics such as deflection, span length, number of components and joints, size and depth of components, and weight. the model is tightly intertwined with structural analysis and optimization results. the design algorithm utilizes Rhino, Grasshopper, incorporating essential plugins such as Karamba, Octopus, and Kangaroo. the proposed fabrication method is Robotic Incremental Sheet Forming (RISF), and the material is ultrathin aluminum sheets (0.3 mm thickness). this paper's focus is on the design phase of the research.
