the present study utilizes VirtualBox virtual environment technology to develop the personal and compact size of multi-node big data VM platform with Spark and Hadoop cluster that can effectively replicate and provides an environment for developers to easily design and implement Spark and Hadoop Map/Reduce programming. By using the multi-node Hadoop VM system, developers can conduct Map/Reduce programing completely the same as that in the real multi-node Hadoop cluster. To demonstrate its capability and applicability, this study performs the benchmark by using the big data VM platform and a physical Multi-Node Hadoop Cluster. Based on the standard WordCount benchmarking, the computing time of the physical multi-node Hadoop cluster is 3.7 times faster than that of VM Hadoop cluster. the benchmark results show that the big data VM platform is an ideal platform for the portal and Map/Reduce programming, Spark programming and testing purposes, and the physical Hadoop cluster is the most appropriate for production runs. In addition, the big data VM platform contains a web portal development module designed to support applications that implement big datacomputing services for the engineering and science users. Such applications are inherently complex, potentially accessing data from a variety of sources and distributing applications to a variety of clients. this portal development module can act as multiple roles in many projects such as personal portals, small business portals, enterprise portals, educational portal, infrastructure portal, and other types of portals. Finally, the big data VM platform, in term of a big data development platform, is ready for users to download. the first author of this paper would like to give a demonstration for the proposed multi-node big data VM platform.

In many scientific fields including the medical field, we often utilize translucent viewing, that is, see-through viewing, to investigate the inner 3D structures of complex objects. On the other hand, it is known that stereoscopic vision is effective in allowing us to intuitively understand 3D shapes and to realize natural depth feel of visualized scenes. It is expected that the combination of these two visualization techniques, that is, translucent viewing and the stereoscopic vision, namely translucent stereoscopic visualization, should be effective for our easier and intuitive understanding of inner structures of 3D objects. However, the cognitive effects that arise when combining these two techniques have not been fully understood for us until now. In this paper, we investigate the cognitive effects that arise when combining these two techniques of computer visualization. We specially focus on medical volume visualization to investigate influences of the luminance gradient, which is inherent in the stochastic point-based rendering (SPBR) that we proposed recently. We conducted psychophysical experiments in which observers analysed the perceived 3D structure based on translucent stereoscopic visualization. the experiments are executed under the conditions of monocular, binocular viewing and motion parallax. We found that the luminance gradient is effective in the perceived depth magnitude in the translucent stereoscopic viewing of medical volume data.

In the recent years, the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) has influenced the development of human-interactive communication games. the Werewolf game was originally a real-world, face-to-face, indoor game played between a minimum of four players. In this research, we focus on Werewolf BBS, which is a web-based game, based on the real-life Werewolf game. In Werewolf BBS, players can send various messages among themselves, including a wide variety of chat messages and discussions on current affairs. thus, it is challenging for AI to understand the phrases being passed on by players. the aim of this study is to understand the content of the messages being communicated in Werewolf BBS. In this paper, we have introduce an automatic classification method based on machine learning to categorize the phrases into six groups. Previous studies have used unavailable information that must be excluded when introducing AI to the game. thus, we hereby propose a method to classify phrases without additional information using a support vector machine (SVM). SVMs are discriminative classifier models of machine learning. In this paper, an SVM is used as a tool for categorization; it discriminates the different expressions shared by the players into the six groups. the results of an experiment confirm that the messages can be classified without preconditions. this verifies the effectiveness of the present research.
