It is increasingly complex to make decisions relating to environmental requirements in the product design phase. Any decision made at this stage may affect the environmental impact of the product. It is therefore necessary to provide new methods and tools for product designers to help them in ecological design choices. this paper describes an approach and new tool for Eco designing technological processes. through tools based on artificial intelligence it is possible to propose a new method for the research and implementation of sustainable solutions in the industrial world. the paper describes how the implementation of new research systems can support both present (ecodesign) and future (prospective ecodesign) sustainable development.

the study presents a new method based on generative design and multicriteria analysis to select the best design option accounting for engineering performance, economic feasibility and other design goals (e.g. novelty, compliance). A comparison between topology optimization and generative design is proposed and discussed. the method is applied to the design of a rocker for racing cars.

Additive Manufacturing techniques enable the realization of complex and free-form geometries that are difficult to realize with traditional subtractive processes. these geometries can be useful in searching for a lightweight design of existing objects. One of the main tools to achieve lightweight parts is the use of lattice structures, where the bulk volume is replaced by a pattern of unit cells. this paper presents a method to lightweight a kart connecting rod using lattice structures, with the idea of realizing this connecting rod with the L-PBF technique. FEM analysis and the simulations of the Additive Manufacturing process are included in the design workflow.

this study aims to define the assembly shift for "nx" fit patterns, considering scrap and the influence of increasing elements. the methodology includes rejection rate estimation via Monte Carlo simulation, gap distribution estimation, and assembly shift computation based on gap distribution. It also proposes a design methodology for dimensioning tolerances to meet assembly shift requirements. Results show narrower assembly shift distributions with more pattern elements, revealing an exponential relationship. A case study based on a real application demonstrates how the proposed methodology can be applied to actual industrial cases.

this paper presents an integrated approach that combines industrial design Structure (IDeS) methodology with Human-Centered techniques to optimize the safety and comfort of hybrid sports vehicles. the study begins with an in-depth analysis of styling trends and then moves on to custom 2D and 3D modeling. A unique method employing calibrated dummies allows customization of the dimensions of the passenger compartment, prioritizing ergonomic features. It has been observed that this approach improves vehicle aesthetics and ensures optimal ergonomic design while prioritizing occupant safety and comfort. In conclusion, this integration not only reduces design time, but also effectively combines attractive styling with passenger comfort and safety, representing a holistic solution for design optimization of hybrid sports vehicles.

the engineering process is a critical area in the design and development of devices for scientific, industrial and technological applications. this process involves the conceptualization, design, prototyping and production of equipment suitable for specific operations or functions. the main objectives of equipment engineering are to optimize the performance, efficiency of functionality, safety and reliability of devices, as well as to reduce costs and production time. the application of advanced engineering methodologies, such as Computer-Aided design (CAD), systems analysis and advanced manufacturing techniques such as Additive Manufacturing (AM), allows the creation of high specialized and high performance equipment to satisfy the specific needs of modern industries. In the framework of advanced technologies such as nuclear fusion, equipment engineering plays a key role in solving complex challenges and developing innovative solutions involving various aspects of engineering knowledge. this paper presents the design and prototyping process of a tool for in-bore welding of pipes used in fusion nuclear power plants, called In-Bore Welding Tool (IBWT).

Digital transformation of industrial training processes is still an ongoing process. the transformation requires a specific training model to be applied to an already structured context, to experienced workers, sometimes with their needs and specific skills, and the solution is designed considering a series of boundary conditions. To design a new training model that the industry will accept, it is important to consider the design space offered by technology, but at the same time, to consider human complexity. this paper proposes a methodology to analyze current training strategies in the industrial sector to design new tools according to a digital transformation logic that considers the underlying principle of the human centricity of Industry 5.0.

the increasing interest in foiling sailing yachts, recently driven by the American's Cup, led to a wider application even in small boats such as dinghies or windsurfing. Foiling seems to be recent but since the early twenty-century years, hydrofoils has been experimented in Italy. this paper shows the complete foil design process starting from classical wing design based on theoretical consideration and illustrating the importance of modern simulation environments in design processes. Commercial CFD code Ansys Fluent((R)) has been used and the results have been compared with those obtained through ad hoc developed vortice lattex method software, showing a substantial agreement with RANS simulation and theoretical calculation in front of incredible time reduction for simulation process that would allow a numerical planform optimization in a reasonable time. the case study focuses on the boat LED from the University of Palermo racing yearly in the framework of the 1001VELAcup (R) international university sailing challenge.
