According to the IDC report, up to year 2009 the demand of the smart phone had maintained an annual increase without being impacted by the financial tsunami occurred in late 2008. Apparently the smart phone, given its small size, light weight, convenience and powerful functions, has gradually gained strong preference of companies, institutions, and general users. In addition, the increasing interest in mobile internet access has also contributed to the increasing demand of the smart phone. therefore, studying the demand characteristics for smart phones is an important topic. In this study, we focused on how to deconstruct technology products design and hope to get a model of scientific and technological development of new products. We illustrated qualitative methods to explore and summarize the intentions and needs of using smart phones, in order to help the enterprise to develop and prepare for the future market with significant commercial opportunities. Finally, we found that based on the innovation model oriented by user demands, characteristics such as “appearance design”, “function demand”, “entertainment effect”, “security and protection” and “knowledge learning” are the most important considerations for designing smart phones.

the quest for knowledge has been an intricate part of the human psyche and, more often than not, we learn by sharing our experiences and combining our efforts. Collaboration is an important part of the learning experience, and when combined withthe technological boom of present times, can be a platform for the future of continuous education. In this paper, we present our vision of a collaborative learning engine, which allows the users to collaborate in real time using their mobile devices, such as smart phones and/or PDAs. Our proposed collaborative learning engine will allow handheld devices to communicate among each other and share text, files, audio and video from different sources. In our initial design and development, we have addressed up to eight devices for streaming video and audio content, however other channels of collaboration can be extended for more users.

How has the small state of Oregon become a center of sustainability in the US? Why did an extremely partisan legislature unanimously pass a sustainability statute in 2002? What characteristics did the Resource Renewal Institute identify as critical when naming Oregon as the first "Guardian of the Future?" Why do people across the state give up evenings and weekends to participate in voluntary watershed councils and discussion groups about sustainability? And what do Oregon companies - Nike, Norm thompson, and Hewlett Packard among them - find compelling enough about the Natural Step that they not only reform their business practices but help other businesses apply the ideas? Using a collective learning model framework, we examine how Oregonians have created a social movement that draws on the diversity of viewpoints, range of approaches, and divergent political ideologies to increase the capacity of both individuals and groups to find sustainable solutions. We review the efforts of governments, private companies, education, and non-governmental organizations learning to integrate sustainability practices. We also focus on emerging groups that are convening individuals for collective learning. It is fairly clear that individuals involved in sustainability projects have a clear sense that what they're about will make a difference. We found that sustainability concepts have been promoted by boththe elite and the general public, using simple messages that resonate with Oregonians. Sustainability practices have been supported through policy innovation, infrastructure changes, and personal motivation.

the development of an on line computer based classification system for the real time classification of different composites is addressed in this study. Different parameters were collected simultaneously when embedded sensors (dielectric, optical fibre, and piezoelectric sensors) were used within two different composite matrices during the curing process. the measurements were used by an algorithm-based software as a logged data file, resulting in to induction of a decision tree. Later, a systematic software is designed based on the rules derived from this decision tree, to recognise the type of composites used in the experiment together with recognition of their physical and mechanical characteristics. this is a new approach to data acquisition in intelligent materials produced by smart manufacturing system.

Distributed case-based reasoning architectures have the potential to improve the overall performance of case-based reasoning systems. In this paper we describe a collaborative case-based reasoning architecture, which allows problem solving experiences to be shared among multiple agents. We demonstrate how this technique can be used successfully to solve an important challenge in the area of personalised route planning;the problem of how to generate route plans that conform to a user's implicit travel preferences in an unfamiliar map territory.

Case-based reasoning systems usually accept the conventional similarity assumption during retrieval, preferring to retrieve a set of cases that are maximally similar to the target problem. While we accept that this works well in many domains, we suggest that in others it is misplaced. In particular, we argue that often diversity can be as important as similarity. this is especially true in case-based recommender systems. In this paper we propose and evaluate strategies for improving retrieval diversity in CBR systems without compromising similarity or efficiency.

For many centuries, human activities have become progressively more significant forces in the biogeochemical circulation of matter in the earth. In recent decades, the phenomena and effects of acidification have played a central role in scientific and social learning about both human impacts on ecosystems and the importance of regional, international, and global strategies in environmental protection. the history of acidification research and policy analysis in Europe and North America is reviewed in an attempt to discover lessons that can be learned from past successes and shortcomings in environmental research and policy. these lessons are summarized in the context of distinctions among possible futures, probable futures, and preferable futures in industrial and developing regions. these analyses indicate four general needs for the future: 1) New paradigms for certain types of scientific research - especially natural resources and environmental research, 2) Effective mechanisms to ensure quality, integrity, and social- and policy-relevancy in science itself and in science-based assessments of alternative means by which societies can achieve economic-development and environmental goals;3) Guidelines for the collaborative roles that scientists, policy analysts, decision makers, and professional communicators in democratic societies should play at the interface between science and public policy;and 4) Further debate, public understanding and increased acceptance of ethical guidelines in making decisions among probable futures, possible futures, and preferable futures in the relationships between humans and ''the Nature.'' Such guidelines could be based on: a) Aldo Leopold's concept of land ethics, b) Gro Brundtland's concept of sustainable development, c) van Rensselaer Potter's concept of ecological bioethics, and d) Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative - ''Act only on that maxim whereby thou canst at the same time will that it should become a universal law''.
