Dynamic facial expression recognition (DFER) is an essential upstream task in the areas of human-machine interaction, driving safety, education and health aids. However, the inherent uncertainty between variations significantly impacts the effectiveness of DFER in practical applications, particularly due to the similar facial changes associated with different facial expressions. To address this challenge, we introduced a novel relationship-driven approach based on the Transformer architecture that can learn the relationships between facial expressions and facial variations. Specifically, we designed several facial variation tokens to explicitly encode the variation status of key facial regions. In addition, we developed a novel module to model the interactions between facial variation tokens and help the model better focus on the specific facial variations of facial expressions. Experimental results on two challenging benchmark DFER datasets show that our proposed FSRNet achieves state-of-the-art performance. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the leading causes of death worldwide continues to be heart disease;therefore, early detection and precise diagnosis are essential to better patient outcomes. the conventional methods of diagnosing chemotherapy-induced nail changes involve a great deal of laboratory testing, which is more than exhaustive. In order to tackle these obstacles, this research introduces a novel methodology for the automated diagnosis and continuous tracking of heart diseases in the IoT -based health care system, integrated with deep learning algorithms. the proposed system includes several state-of-the art techniques to improve diagnostic reliability and speed. First of all, min-max normalization is used as a pre-processing technique that aims at pre-scaling the data of patients to a consistent level and, as a result, enhancing the performance of the model. the Mud Ring Algorithm is then used for feature selection, whereby the best features are chosen together with the reduction in dimensionality to decrease computational intensity, thus improving diagnostic accuracy. the core diagnostic engine is based on Similarity Navigated Graph Neural Networks (SNGNN) and has been enhanced with Leopard Seal Optimization (LSO), a new meta-method motivated by the hunting patterns of leopard seals. this combination enables the system to relate various features and give the correct prognosis for heart diseases. these techniques, applied within the IoT framework, enable real-time monitoring and diagnosis and therefore have the benefit of being a scalable solution for modern health care systems. the results show that the proposed method for providing diagnosis of heart disease is accurate, timely, and reliable and thus has the potential to revolutionize patient management in healthcare based on the IoT. © 2024 IEEE.

Disassembling and recycling scrapped products play important roles in effectively reducing environmental pollution and improving resource sustainability. A multi-product human-robot collaborative disassembly-line-balancing problem (MHDP) arises from doing so and represents an important yet to be solved in the remanufacturing field. this work explores how to use optimization algorithms to schedule tasks between humans and robots to maximize remanufacturing profit in human-robot collaboration contexts. Specifically, we investigate MHDP and develop a mixed integer programming model considering various system constraints. We propose a dingo optimization algorithm that simulates wild dogs' social hierarchy and chasing processes to solve MHDP. We compare the proposed algorithm with an exact solution finder, i.e., IBM CPLEX and a well-known intelligent optimization method, i.e., Genetic Algorithm to show its competitive performance in terms of solution accuracy and efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Flying Adhoc Network (FANET) has gained attention due to regressive real-time use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Optimized routing in FANETs is more challenging than mobile ad-hoc networks and vehicular ad-hoc networks due to restricted bandwidth and higher mobility of UAVs. Apart from the Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) routing protocols, nature-inspired techniques-based optimized routing has shown promising routing performance in FANET. this paper proposes a Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA) based optimized routing protocol for FANET. the proposed routing technique selects a better routing path because of the high exploration and exploitation capabilities of MPA. the fitness function based on link stability and energy efficiency helps to select a routing path with better Quality of Service (QoS). the performance of the proposed technique has been analyzed based on packet arrival ratio, end-to-end delay, and throughput, and it is compared to five state-of-the-art techniques by varying the speed and number of the nodes. the simulation results depict that the proposed work is more efficient than the existing state-of-the-art schemes. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial expression recognition has remained a focal point due to its vital applications, such as medical diagnosis and human-computer interaction. However, the complexity of human emotion leads to a wide diversity of external expressions. Small inter-class differences and large intra-class differences are also significant challenges for effectively identifying facial expressions. In this paper, we establish a Dual-Direction Convolution Mixed-Attention Network (DDC-MAN) to enhance the recognition effect of CNNs. the DDC-MAN framework consists of a CNN backbone, a dual-direction convolution (DDC) module, a mixed-attention dual-direction feature fusion (MADDFF) module, and a multi-head spatial-channel attention (MHSCA) module. Specifically, our model first employs ResNet18 as the backbone for extracting facial features. the DDC module is then incorporated to capture facial texture information from two directions more effectively. Additionally, the MADDFF module is proposed to find key areas from both single and mixed attention across width and height directions. Finally, the MHSCA module is introduced to perform spatial and channel attention based on these key areas. Experimental results demonstrate that our DDC-MAN approach yields impressive improvements over state-of-the-art methods on the AffectNet and RAF-DB datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

Hierarchical Federated Edge Learning (HFEL) is a promising and efficient framework, providing privacy preservation, which aims to address the issue of limited resources and network congestion by utilizing the available resources in the edge network. this paper proposes a new scheme, HFEL-Q, based on HFEL to address the high energy consumption problem of FL training, as well as the inherent communication and user heterogeneity problems. To improve training performance, a utility function is designed based on users' learning quality and training time to efficiently select the user group with the highest utility. Additionally, a frequency determination method is employed to optimize idle time and reduce energy consumption during training. Finally, the performance of HFEL-Q is evaluated on two real datasets to demonstrate its superiority over state-of-the-art baselines in terms of training rate, accuracy, and energy savings. © 2024 SPIE.

Many practical optimization problems require models that are able to reflect uncertainty or inexactness inherently present in the data. Interval linear programming provides a model for handling uncertain optimization problems, in which one assumes that only lower and upper bounds on the input data are available and the data can be independently perturbed within the intervals determined by the given bounds. Apart from the linear programming models with continuous variables, which have been explored by various authors, intervals also often arise in discrete optimization problems. We adopt the model of integer linear programming with binary variables, in which the constraint matrix, objective vector and right-hand-side vector are affected by interval uncertainty. For this model, only a few works investigating its properties can be found in the literature. In this paper, we discuss the main concepts of feasibility and optimality in the model and discuss their properties. Namely, we address the problem of computing the set and the range of optimal values and characterizing weak optimality of solutions. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Modern farming is now achievable because to the IoT, which has revolutionised agricultural management. investigates the most current IoT based smart agriculture system technologies in view of sustainable crop management. Recent advancements in learning-based computer-generated holography (CGH) have enabled sophisticated methods for generating phase-only holograms (POHs). However, a key challenge remains unaddressed: ringing artifacts, which arise due to the Gibbs phenomenon during the diffraction propagation process, significantly degrade the quality of reconstructed holographic images. To address this, we introduce a novel pluggable compensation module designed to predict and mitigate these artifacts by adjusting for residual values during propagation. this pluggable module, easily integrated with existing CGH networks, alleviates the network's burden by aligning the diffraction process more closely with ideal conditions. Our results demonstrate that embedding this module in state-of-the-art CGH frameworks, such as HoloNet and CCNN, elevates the PSNR by up to 3.9 dB and 0.6 dB, respectively. Notably, our method achieves considerable artifact reduction in real-world scenarios, thereby enhancing the overall fidelity of holographic displays. this pluggable module represents a substantial advancement, offering versatility and improved performance across diverse CGH algorithms. © 2025 SPIE.

AI Code Completion (e.g., Github's Copilot) has revolutionized how computer science students interact with programming languages. However, AI code completion has been studied from the developers' perspectives, not the students' perspectives who represent the future generation of our digital world. In this paper, we investigated the benefits, challenges, and expectations of AI code completion from students' perspectives. To facilitate the study, we first developed an open-source Visual Studio Code Extension tool AutoAurora, powered by a state-of-the-art large language model StarCoder, as an AI code completion research instrument. Next, we conduct an interview study with ten student participants and apply grounded theory to help analyze insightful findings regarding the benefits, challenges, and expectations of students on AI code completion. Our findings show that AI code completion enhanced students' productivity and efficiency by providing correct syntax suggestions, offering alternative solutions, and functioning as a coding tutor. However, the over-reliance on AI code completion may lead to a surface-level understanding of programming concepts, diminishing problem-solving skills and restricting creativity. In the future, AI code completion should be explainable and provide best coding practices to enhance the education process.
