For the volume of revolution deformed by another volume of revolution, a grid generation algorithm is suggested. the algorithm is designed for multimaterial hydrodynamic simulation and for solving other physical and engineering problems. the algorithm represents the non-stationary procedure generating three-dimensional structured grids in domains with moving boundaries. the algorithm is developed within the variational approach for constructing optimal curvilinear grids. the volume of revolution is obtained by the rotation about the axis through 180° of a plane generatrix curve consisting of straight line segments and arcs of circles. the non-stationary algorithm is the iterative process at each stage of which the deformation of a grid and then its optimization are carried out. the deformation of a grid is implemented within the geometrical approach, and the optimization of a grid within the variational approach. Iterations are continued until the necessary deformation is reached. the algorithm is realized in the computer code written in C++. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) are commonly used in the process industry's detailed engineering to describe process flows and to serve as a basis for the systems design of processing plants. these diagrams (documents) serve as a basis for upcoming engineering activities, especially the development of control software. Changes in P&IDs often entail adaption of the respective control software. Although these adaptions often realized manually, the development of control software is characterized by painstaking effort and a tendency to prolong projects. this paper therefore proposes an approach that segments P&IDs according the ISA-88 standard. An implemented prototype subsequently generates modular control software based on the PLCopen standardized exchange format. Within an implemented prototype, the approach was evaluated on a sample P&ID derived from a representative lab-size demonstrator, which highlighted the ability to reduce time and costs during the development of control software.

Visible light communications integrated with Internet-of-things has numerous applications in indoor wireless communications and it requires high data rates and flicker mitigation. Flicker mitigation is an important consideration since light emitting diodes are simultaneously used for illumination and communications. Several run-length limited (RLL) codes have been proposed in the literature for flicker mitigation with trade-offs between code rate, bit error performance, encoding and decoding complexities. However, there are no generalized algorithms for high rate codes generation with low complexity encoding and decoding. Hence, in this paper, we propose generalized algorithm for generating high rate RLL codes with low complexity encoding and decoding. the proposed codes can be used for flicker mitigation conditioned on maximum flickering time period (MFTP). the performance of the proposed codes is compared with existing codes in terms of various metrics like code rate, minimum Hamming distance, peak to average power ratio, run-length, and bit error rate. We show that the proposed codes mitigate flicker conditioned on MFTP and provide high data rates with low complexity encoding and decoding compared to the codes in the literature.

the 4th generation of District Heating (4GDH) is a complex agglomeration of heat providers, distributors, and consumers that must be automatically, continuously managed and coordinated. It is a complex system of systems;a definition which we align to Maier's architecting principles for systems-of-systems as collaborative systems. Wrapped in the idea of system of systems is the reality that the 4GDH systems' descriptions and specifications are not currently all known. Nonetheless, the transition into the 4GDH is actual. We propose the use of two frameworks to secure a smooth metamorphosis and assure systems' operation, maintenance, and evolution. the two frameworks are the Arrowhead Framework and the OPTi Framework. the first one enables system integration through Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and the second one offers the overall system optimization with respect to all stakeholders. this paper uses the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tool SysML to model a district heating complex's structures and behaviors from the concept level down to the sensors and actuators within a district heating substation where we apply the SOA technology based on the open Arrowhead Framework. We focus on the Arrowhead Framework's core services, i.e. Service Registry, Authorization and Orchestration to clearly describe the interactions between the different service providers and consumers. Going back up from the sensors to the systems, it is clear that SOA is the architecture that will empower the 4GDH. (C) 2017 the Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Demand Response (DR) applications via Home Energy Management System (HEMS) at the building level in a strategically integrated RES-based electricity grid can help reduce the building peak demand as well as energy consumption and the power inefficiency in the grid respectively. Distributed Energy generation (DEG) based on Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are seen as a reliable alternative and more efficient grid optimization to the traditional fossil energy sources-based grid. But a proper combination of demand response and the DEG can significantly make a revolutionary change in the electricity grid. this paper focuses on the impact of integrated control of Solar PV and the Wind Turbine on improving the supply-side and coordinated control strategy for automated demand response by ensuring efficient use of home appliances including Electric Vehicle (EV), air cooling, water heating etc. based on HEMS in order to reduce the peak demand and overall power inefficiency in the grid. For that purpose and analysis, a highly accurate aggregated model of Solar PV, Wind turbine and the home appliances has been developed in the Simulink (MATLAB) and an iterative algorithm based on Load Shifting technique has been established for HEMS controller with embedded MATLAB code. the obtained simulation result illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed system. © 2017 IEEE.

Many software mechanisms for geophysics exploration in Oil & Gas industries are based on wave propagation simulation. To perform such simulations, state-of-art HPC architectures are employed, generating results faster and with more accuracy at each generation. the software must evolve to support the new features of each design to keep performance scaling. Furthermore, it is important to understand the impact of each change applied to the software, in order to improve the performance as most as possible. In this paper, we propose several optimization strategies for a wave propagation model for five architectures: Intel Haswell, Intel Knights Corner, Intel Knights Landing, NVIDIA Kepler and NVIDIA Maxwell. We focus on improving the cache memory usage, vectorization, and locality in the memory hierarchy. We analyze the hardware impact of the optimizations, providing insights of how each strategy can improve the performance. the results show that NVIDIA Maxwell improves over Intel Haswell, Intel Knights Corner, Intel Knights Landing and NVIDIA Kepler performance by up to 17.9x.
