Standard particle filters cannot handle dynamic systems with unknown fixed parameters. In this paper we extend the recently proposed cost-reference particle filtering methodology (CRPF) to jointly estimate the time-varying state and the static parameters of a dynamic system. In particular we introduce three strategies that allow to assign costs to the random samples in the state-space independently of the fixed parameters. Asymptotic results that illuminate the relationships among the methods are derived, and computer simulation results are presented to illustrate their practical implementation in a vehicle navigation problem.

this contribution is devoted to the comparison of various resampling approaches that have been proposed in the literature on particle filtering. It is first shown using simple arguments that the so-called residual and stratified methods do yield an improvement over the basic multinomial resampling approach. A simple counter-example showing that this property does not hold true for systematic resampling is given. Finally, some results on the large-sample behavior of the simple bootstrap filter algorithm are given. In particular a central limit theorem is established for the case where resampling is performed using the residual approach.

An unsatisfactory property of particle filters is that they, may become inefficient when the observation noise is low. hi this paper we consider a simple-to-implement particle filter called 'LIS-based particle filter', whose aim is to overcome the above mentioned weakness. LIS-based particle filters sample the particles in a two-stage process that uses information of the most recent observation, too. In this paper, we analyze the applicability of Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA), one of the most widely used and tested blind equalization technique to blind image deconvolution. With a detailed mathematical analysis, we show that the strong correlation between the neighboring spatial locations found in natural images becomes a major constraint on the convergence of CMA. In order to overcome this constraint, we introduce a novel image pixel correlation model in relation with natural image statistics. Based on this model, a segmented blind image deconvolution through CMA is proposed. the robustness of the proposed algorithm with natural images is discussed in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.

In this paper, an evolution law through scales for modulus maxima of the wavelet transform of a signal is proposed. It corresponds to an atomic approximation of wavelet detail bands. Although this result is very general and useful for various fields of imageprocessing, we focus on its application to signal and image compression. We propose a simple trick for taking advantage from the law without directly solving its corresponding partial differential equation. this paper proposes a inexpensive and flexible way to analyze large amounts of sport motion data, which are generated by automated motion tracking methods and complemented with manual annotations. A database, obtained by tracking and annotating over 100 squash plays was used. the goal was to find a way to automatically detect certain kinds of play, activities, certain predefined scenarios and to generate various statistics about these activities - without hard-coding them in the executable code. We found that SQL-enabled databases provide a flexible and scalable solution to this problem. the examples of actual SQL queries for sport analysis are presented in the paper along with short tutorial on particular aspects of SQL language, which were exploited in our solution.

In this paper the FOI temporal analysis method is presented and tested on images randomly chosen from a diurnal sequence. the method integrates data collection, both sensor images and weather, as well as modelling, withthe signalprocessing detection methods. the detection methods presented show that mines can be detected using optical methods, even when the image sequence show very little contrast. Increasing the number of data collection times affects the detection rate and false alarm rate in a positive way. the result from the test with randomly chosen images show performance better than random for all of the tested cases, excellent for some cases. Using prior knowledge in the choice of time of data collection, the result from testing the method on real mine field data shows interesting result.

this paper presents the low-sensitivity realization of band-pass (BP) active resistance-capacitance (RC) filters using "uniform modified leap-frog" (UMLF) structure. Sensitivities with respect to filter passive components are investigated. It is shown how the optimization can be performed in order to achieve minimal sensitivities with relatively small values of Q-factors. Multiple-feedback-structured fillers have low sensitivities to passive component tolerances, and additional sensitivity reduction of 2(nd)-order building biquads is achieved by the "impedance tapering" design. As an example, the sensitivity analysis, using Shoeffler sensitivity measure, was performed oil a Chebyshev 8(th) order BP filter. the filters were realized using UMLF and leap-frog (LF) structures, where sensitivity-optimized single-amplifier (SAB) and Sallen and Key (SAK) biquads realize the 2(nd) order biquads.

this paper sheds new light on minimization of the total variation under the L-1-norm as data fidelity term (L-1 +TV) and its link with mathematical morphology. It is well known that morphological filters feature the property of being invariant with respect to any change of contrast. First, we show that minimization of L-1 + TV yields a self-dual and contrast invariant filter then, we further constrain the minimization process by only, optimizing the grey levels of level sets of the image while keeping their boundaries fixed. this new constraint is maintained thanks to the Fast Level Set Transform which yields a complete representation of the image as a tree. We show that this filter call be expressed as a Markov Random Field oil this tree. Finally, we present some results which demonstrate that these new filters call be particularly useful as a pre-processing stage before segmentation.
