this paper summarizes the progression of a collaborative project (hereafter referred to as the Project) in the field of sustainable development. It is subdivided into four parts. 1. the introduction sets up the general context of the Project, its basic concepts and its methodological orientation. 2. the objective is a clarification of the socioeconomic mechanisms that generate strategic partnerships interested in a large-scale renewal of the transportation system, at economic, social and environmental levels. this objective is conceived of in general terms but aims at the attainment of a concrete target. 3. the central analysis includes two complementary activities: a due diligence study and a Delphi consultation aimed at the evaluation of the practical implications of this study. 4. the conclusion claims that the adaptive approach applied here provides a valuable procedure for promoting results-oriented operative means for achieving sustainable transportation and sustainable development.

A comparison of two context-modeling methods, CABAC and GRASP, is presented with regard to applications in video compression. Both context-based entropy coding methods are tested for various probability estimation techniques, for different sources, and for different quantization parameters by using the test model of the H.264/AVC video coding standard. Our experimental results show that GRASP provides a significant gain over CABAC, especially for intra frames coded at medium to high bit-rates.

By using perturbation analysis on a simulation model of a flexible manufacturing system, this paper proposes a procedure to size this system in order to maximize its productivity. this procedure is based on the identification of the function between flowtime (i.e., the flowtime for each product is computed as the delay between its completion time and its arrival time) and the decision variable, here the number of automated vehicles in the system. A formal evaluation of the performance gradient in each point of the simulation model is then possible.

Early requirements analysis is concerned with modeling and understanding the organizational context within which a software system will eventually function. this paper proposes organizational patterns motivated by organizational theories intended to facilitate the construction of organizational models. these patterns are defined from real world organizational settings, modeled in i* and formalized using the Formal Tropos language. Additionally, the paper evaluates the proposed patterns using desirable qualities such as coordinability and predictability.

this paper addresses the problem of animating a talking figure, such as an avatar, using speech input only. the system that was developed is based on hidden Markov models for the acoustic observation vectors of the speech sounds that correspond to each of 16 visually distinct mouth shapes (visemes). the acoustic variability with context was taken into account by building acoustic viseme models that are dependent on the left and right viseme contexts. Our experimental results show that it is indeed possible to obtain visually relevant speech segmentation data directly from the purely acoustic speech signal.
