this paper discusses a wireless sensor node with impact resistance capability. We have been discussing the development of disaster information gathering system utilizing wireless sensor network deployed by rescue robots for underground facility such as metro station. For convenient and efficient deployment of A sensor network, we proposed throwing deployment method. To realize throwing deployment, we developed a wireless sensor node with impact resistance capability for withstanding landing impact. An impact resistance capability and throughput of communication of sensor nodes were confirmed.

sensor networks have recently been attracting the interest of both researchers and developers alike. Due to the advances in sensor and wireless device miniaturisation through MEMS technology, it is now possible to obtain environment information from difficult to reach places and expectations re high as to how this technology will be applied. When we considered sensor network applications, difficulties were forecast with respect to gathering the enourmous amounts of data from the monitored environment. However, we designed and developed a Web API for obtaining sensor data from sensor networks and, using a version of the Web AN tailored for mobile phones, we developed a navigation system aimed at pedestrians. the system uses temperature sensor data to determine the most comfortable route for the user. All edges are weighted using the temperature sensor data and then an optimal route is computed using Dijkstra's algorithm. In this paper we describe boththe Web API and the navigation system.

sensor-based applications mostly need data from sensors of different types (temperature, pressure, location, camera, etc.) that may be managed by different software, e.g., proprietary software from manufacturers. this demonstration presents SStreaMWare, a service-oriented middleware for heterogeneous sensor data management. SStreaMWare's simple data schema allows data representation of various types of sensors in a common generic way. the service-oriented approach of SStreaMWare hides the heterogeneity of sensor software by adopting generic query services that can be discovered and used dynamically.

this paper proposes a methodology to off-line planning of WSNs (Wireless sensor Networks) by addressing the problem in a multi-layer manner. At the sensor level a model is described to properly select and distribute the sensors in the environment. To optimize the cost and deployment of realistic WSNs, further design activities are proposed at an intermediate level, targeting board-level clustering of sensors. Finally, it is presented a methodology to hierarchically organize the set of sensors in patches with an additional gateway-level communication layer, to take Into account also possible scaling of the application complexity. Particular emphasis is put on the cost modeling and on ensuring the correct behavior of the WSN against variation of parameters like sensor position, protocol, cost, etc.

sensor technologies have significant roles for train operations, many sensors have been developed and installed. At present, performances of these sensors are high enough to ensure safety operations of trains, but not enough to maintain the stable work of signal devices. therefore, advanced sensor system is expected. For example, a wireless communication system is desired because it has Small influence to present systems. sensor network is one promising solution. Its function of multi-hop transmitting easily realizes wireless networks. Implanting several sensor devices in a railroad crosstie and setting the crossties under rails, the sensor network automatically form a communication path along the rail, where the resolution of sensing is around a meter and the path is flexible to reform. In addition, the MEMS technology will have large contribution to realize small but high performance sensor devices with low cost. By using such intelligent sensor devices, sensor network will realize the next generation of railroad control system.

We have proposed a route planning method for a mobile sensor node using cost map. the proposed method achieves novel path planning that can solve several practical problems in conventional work: limitations of sensing areas, barricades on nodes' paths, and restrictions on nodes' movements. In this research, we propose a route planning method that can avoid collisions. Moreover, we also propose a query language to specify required sensing data. the proposed method effectively allocates multiple sensor nodes, and we show its effectiveness through simulation study.

On developing prototype,;of multisensor surveillance systems, It Is necessary to apply various types or statistical and numerical computing algorithms in analyzing sensor data. In addition, most of the algorithm implementation includes complex, numerical computing processes. Hence, implementing and applying various algorithms are tiresome tasks by application developers. To save time and manpower on creating the prototypes, we have been developing sensorD/Stat, an extension of sensor-Event-Driven Service Coordination Middleware (sensorD). In the sensorD/Stat system, sensorD cooperatively works with R, which Is an open source statistical computing and graphic environment. Using both spatio-temporal sensor data management of sensorD and statistical and numerical analyses of R, developers can rapidly create prototypes of indoor multisensor surveillance systems. In this paper, we show the outline of sensorD/Stat and a prototype of a room temperature monitoring system as a preliminary result of sensorD/Stat.

Communicating extensive in-network data generated by resource-constrained wireless sensor nodes is an energy consuming process. To minimise the amount of data exchanged in sensor networks, several researchers have proposed novel and efficient protocols to perform data aggregations, clustering or regression on sensor nodes. Most of these approaches focus on optimising conventional mining techniques to work on resource-constrained sensor nodes. However, the application of association rules for sensor networks is an area of study that has not been investigated. this is due to the high computational cost of obtaining meaningful rules. thus, in this paper, we propose Adaptive Rule Triggers on sensors ARTS, to extract highly correlated rules from sensor data and apply them. the learnt rules are used to extend sensor lifetime by controlling sensor operations using triggers. Our approach is optimised to run on non-critical sensing applications/data-aggregation applications that can tolerate a coarse-granularity for sensed data. For this category of applications, our approach can derive meaningful rules efficiently to further conserve energy of wireless sensors. In this paper, these energy savings are evidenced in our experiments that adapt ARTS to a state-of-the-art clustering protocol.

Our group has proposed a new communication technology named "Two-Dimensional Communication" for high-density indoor sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a method to detect the positions and orientations of sensor nodes placed on the Two-Dimensional Signal Transmission sheet (2DST sheet). First, we introduce the scheme of encoding the position information on the 2DST sheet. Next, we analyze the electromagnetic field modulation by the conductive mesh pattern on the 2DST sheet, and describe the proposed method that determines the sensor locations from the measured electric field pattern. Finally, we show the results of several fundamental experiments to confirm this principle.

In this paper we present a platform for developing mobile, locative and collaborative distributed games comprised of small programmable object technologies (e.g., wireless sensor networks) and traditional networked processors. the platform is implemented using a combination of JAVA Standard and Mobile editions, targeting also mobile phones that have some kind of sensors installed. We briefly present the architecture of our platform and demonstrate its capabilities by reporting two pervasive multiplayer games. the key characteristic of these games is that players interact with each other and their surrounding environment by moving, running and gesturing as a means to perform game related actions, using small programmable object technologies.
