this paper proposes a Traffic-Differentiated Two-Hop Routing protocol for Quality of Service (QoS) in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). It targets WSN applications having different types of data traffic with several priorities. the protocol achieves to increase packet reception ratio (PRR) and reduce end-to-end delay while considering multi-queue priority policy, two-hop neighborhood information, link reliability and power efficiency. the protocol is modular and utilizes effective methods for estimating the link metrics. Numerical results show that the proposed protocol is a feasible solution to addresses QoS service differentiation for traffic with different priorities.

With wireless sensor networks (WSN) now readily available and capable of monitoring multiple physical phenomena over time, large volumes of data can now easily be generated in the form of multiple co-evolving data streams. this presents a number of challenging tasks for the analyst, who often seeks to monitor such data in real-time for the purposes of summarisation, anomaly detection and prediction. WSNs often suffer from severe resource constraints that prevent them from applying computational algorithms on large datasets as in conventional systems. Sensomax is an agent-based and object-oriented WSN middleware, which is capable of executing multiple concurrent applications based on their required operational paradigm. Its component-based architecture features seamless integration of light-weight computational algorithms at different levels throughout the network. this paper presents the preliminary work on a novel algorithm capable of detecting significant change points, or "points of interest" in an unsupervised fashion across multiple data streams in parallel. the algorithm is based on an incremental dimensionality reduction approach known as subspace tracking. Sensomax exploits this algorithm to detect the change points and dynamically respond to the applications' demands whilst executing concurrent applications, switching operational paradigms and reorganising at cluster and network levels.

the propagation speed of an acoustic signal is much slower than the speed of a terrestrial radio signal due to the physical characteristics of an underwater acoustic channel. this large delay can impact the throughput of the channel. there is also a very high delay variance which presents unique challenges to the designs of efficient MAC protocols. the long and inconsistent delay renders many traditional protocols insufficient since they rely on multiple handshakes and accurate estimations of the round trip time (RTT) between two nodes. We proposed a novel approach to develop a Cluster based delay-tolerant protocol (CBDTP) to address these problems by eliminating RTS/CTS and ACK handshaking while avoiding collision. In addition, our CBDTP protocol uses a self-adoptive algorithm to address the inconsistent delay problem and its impact on RTT estimation. Our simulation study shows that CBDTP can improve channel throughput and resource utilization in a volatile deployment environment for many underwater wireless sensor network applications.

the constrained capacity of wireless sensor nodes and harsh, unattended deploy environments make the data collected by sensor nodes usually unreliable. In this paper, we propose a sketch based anomaly detection scheme in order to detect the anomaly data values. It first partitions the whole sensor network into several clusters in which the cluster members are physically adjacent and data correlated. then, the cluster header collects the count-min sketch of each cluster member and compares it with its own sketch in the form of kullback-leibler divergence. the experiment shows that the proposed anomaly detection scheme can provide a high detection accuracy ratio and a low false alarm ratio.

Collecting data from massive numbers of individual nodes is always a challenging task in wireless sensor networks. the duration of a data collection process, which can greatly affect the detection capabilities of a network, should be reduced whenever possible. For scenarios where only a single cluster is allowed, the delay-aware data collection network structure can minimize the duration of a data collection process. the aim of this paper is to explore the possibilities of improving the original delay-aware network structure by splitting the single tree structure into multiple clusters. Analyses on the conditions and effects of splitting the aforementioned structure are presented. Based on the analyses, two novel network splitting algorithms using k-means clustering algorithms are proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed network splitting algorithms may further reduce the duration of a data collection process. With the help of the k-means algorithms, communication distance among sensor nodes can be further reduced especially for networks with large numbers of wireless sensor nodes. Wireless sensor networks are usually deployed in scenarios that are too hostile for human personnel to perform maintenance tasks. Wireless sensor nodes usually exchange information in a multi-hop manner. Connectivity is crucial to the performance of a wireless sensor network. In case a network is partitioned due to node failures, it is possible to re-connect the fragments by setting up bridges using mobile platforms. Given the landscape of a terrain, the mobile platforms should be able reach the target position using a desirable path. In this paper, an off-line robot path planner is proposed to find desirable paths between arbitrary points in a given terrain. the proposed path planner is based on ACO algorithms. Unlike ordinary ACO algorithms, the proposed path planner provides its artificial ants with extra flexibility in making routing decisions. Simulation results show that such enhancement can greatly improve the qualities of the paths obtained. Performances of the proposed path planner can be further optimized by fine-tuning its parameters.

Rapid technological advances and innovations in the area of autonomous systems push the researchers towards autonomous networked systems with emphasis on Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). In WSN event-driven applications, it is critical to report the detected events in the area, resulting in sudden bursts of traffic due to occurrence of spatially-correlated or multiple events, causing loss of data. Also, nodes have very limited power due to hardware constraints. Packet losses and retransmissions resulting from congestion, cost precious energy and shorten the lifetime of sensor nodes. Till now, in WSNs, Congestion control techniques are based on detection of congestion and recovery, but they cannot eliminate or prevent the occurrence of congestion. Collision is a symptom of congestion in the wireless channel and can result in a timevariant channel capacity. therefore, this research focuses on an efficient medium access control (MAC) technique to coordinate the access of nodes to the shared medium without interference. It uses the queue buffer length of the sensor nodes to estimate the congestion and then dynamically disseminates the traffic along with classifying them into different priority classes to provide a congestion-free routing path to the destination with improved Quality of Service (QoS) © 2013 IEEE.

Owing to the increasing popularity of wireless sensor networks, they have become attractive targets for malicious attacks. Due to the adhoc nature and openness of wireless sensor networks, they are susceptible to the identity based attacks like spoofing. the traditional approach to address spoofing attacks is to apply cryptographic authentication, spatial signatures etc. this suffers from the disadvantages of overhead, limited power, bandwidth and other resources available along with the high costs of implementation. In this paper, we have proposed a method named Attack Detection and Localization Scheme (ADLS) to detect and localize the identity-based attacks. An improved algorithm for hashing has also been proposed. We named it as Effective Hashing Technique (EHT). It generates the Hash keys to differentiate an attacker from a normal node and to reduce the occurrences of any false positives or negatives. Also, our localization algorithm efficiently finds out the position estimates for the nodes. With the help of this method we can robustly identify the adversaries and localize them to prevent further large scale network malicious attacks like DoS and resource depletion attacks. We present our simulation for 802.15.4 (Zigbee) based real time home security system and analyse its performance based on NS2. © 2013 IEEE.

Performing field experiments is a key step to validate the design of a Wireless sensor Network (WSN) application and to evaluate its performance under various conditions. We present an experiment management and data analysis tool called IRIS that offers effective management of various configuration settings for WSN experiments. One special feature of IRIS is its extensibility. that is, IRIS allows the developer to define customized functions for application-specific data analysis and performance evaluation. Other main features include: enabling the interaction with the deployed WSN at runtime for fine tuning the experiments and providing graphical presentation for visualizing the collected data as well as the processed results. We highlight the advantages of IRIS for the WSN application development in different experiment phases. Furthermore, we demonstrate the usefulness of IRIS with two real-life WSN applications to show that IRIS can be integrated to develop an application and can greatly help in performing experiments more efficiently. © Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2013.
