this paper presents a novel neuromorphic camera system rotating at high-speed (1 to 4 rotations/sec) to acquire 360° panoramas in real-time by exploiting the high temporal resolution, the high dynamic range and the sparse visual information representation using a neuromorphic vision sensor with address-event (AE) signaling mounted on a high-speed mechanical rotation device. Contrary to state-of-the-art panorama cameras (e.g. rotational cameras or catadioptric cameras), this camera system can delivers several distortion-free 360° panoramas per second at constant image resolution and efficient edge extraction of the scene under real illumination conditions without any further computation. this camera system could establish new sensing capabilities in challenging applications such as real-time environmental awareness for robotics and surveillance. After introducing panorama systems and the neuromorphic dual-line dynamic vision sensor, the new camera concept is presented. A comparative analysis of this system with state-of-the art cameras is given. the concept, the camera design and resulting images using an existing 256 pixel line sensor are presented.

In this paper, we present a feasibility study using energy harvesting and wireless energy transmission systems to operate SHM sensor nodes. the energy harvesting approach examines the use of kinetic energy harvesters to scavenge energy from ambient sources. Acceleration measurements were made on a bridge, and these measurements serve as the basis for a series of laboratory experiments that replicate these sources using an electromagnetic shaker. We also investigated the use of wireless energy transmission systems to operate SHM sensor nodes. the goal of this investigation is to develop SHM sensing systems which can be permanently embedded in the host structure and do not require on-board power sources. this paper summarizes considerations needed to design such systems, experimental procedures and results, and additional issues that can be used as guidelines for future investigations.

We investigate the use of magnetic field disturbances as features for motion based, wearable activity recognition systems. Such disturbances are mostly caused by large metallic objects and electrical appliances, both of which are often involved in human activities. We propose to detect them by subtracting angular velocity values computed from the changes in the magnetic field vector from gyroscope signals. We argue that for activities that are associated with specific objects or devices such features increase system robustness against motion variations, sensor displacement and inter user differences. On a previously published data set of 8 gym exercises we demonstrate that our approach can improve the recognition by up to 31% over gyroscope only and up to 17% over a combination of a gyroscope and 3D accelerometer. Improvements of 9.5% are also demonstrated for user independent training as well as for the case of displaced sensors. A particularly interesting result is the fact that adding the magnetic disturbance features significantly improves recognition based on the vector norm of accelerometers and gyroscopes. the norm is often used when the orientation of the sensor is not known. this is common when using a mobile phone or other consumer appliance as a sensor.

Existing sensor network simulators are not appropriate for indoor sensor network systems. We present RealSSim, the sensor network simulator especially developed for indoor sensor networks. RealSSim considers the structure of buildings and the quality of construction materials for accurate radio propagation analysis. It also supports an attractive visualization of the level as commercial products. In our demonstration, we show the whole process of simulation for two indoor sensor network systems.
