Withthe great progress of information technologies, computers are embedded into everywhere to make our daily life convenient, efficient and invisible. In order to utilize this progress for learning, a scheduler system, a Ubiquitous Learning system (ULS) was proposed. ULS contributes a lot to improve student's learning efficiency. Yet improvement can still be made to the system by using sensor networks. In our new design, we embed various kinds of sensors, like temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, light sensor, into the environment. Based on the information collected by such sensors, decisions can be made by the control center to adjust the environment automatically for learner. Our research result reveals that the improved ULS not only benefited learners to acquire their learning habits but also improve their learning efficiency.

Energy is a limited resource in wireless sensor networks. the reduction of energy consumption is crucial to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. Dynamic Power Management (DPM), which is to reduce power dissipation by putting the sensor node into different states, should be carefully taken into account in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, a new method of DPM is proposed. In this method, the next event's time which is a non-stationary series is predicted as accurate as possible by wavelet neural networks. Nodes in deeper sleep states consume lower energy while asleep, but incur a longer delay and higher energy cost to awaken. So the nodes state is decided to move through the predictable time associated withthe threshold time and residual power. the simulation results show that the energy consumption is significantly reduced and the whole lifetime of the wireless sensor networks is greatly prolonged withthe proposed method.

Ubiquitous computing environments typically contain a large number and a large variety of networkedsensors that are often embedded in the environment. As these networks grow in size and complexity, their management becomes increasingly costly, for instance in terms of equipment, software, and people. One way to keep these costs under control is to automate some or all of the management aspects in the system, reducing or even removing the need for human interaction. In this paper, we focus on automatically managing Bluetooth networks for indoor localization, which we consider a specific class of ubiquitous computing systems because they usually rely on many Bluetooth devices scattered throughout a particular building. We will discuss algorithms that help reducing the number of active devices needed in a network, while maintaining a comparable localization accuracy compared to the "full" network. the algorithms enable the most "valuable" Bluetooth devices in the network and will disable the others. the main advantage is that this reduces the need for network planning, which reduces the costs of operating the system. Another advantage is that it reduces the amount of energy used by the network and the mobile devices being located. We evaluate the real-world performance of our algorithms through experiments carried out with a running system in a realistic environment. We found that our algorithms can reduce a network to approximately half the original size while still retaining an accuracy level comparable to the original "full" network. Copyright 2008 acm.

Wireless sensor networks are widely applied in various applications. But due to the resource-constrained sensor nodes and the malicious attacks, the traditional key management schemes are not suitable for the network. Based on the particularities, many relevant key management schemes are developed for wireless sensor networks. this paper proposes an improved matrix key-distribution scheme for wireless sensor networks. this scheme can delete and update key information withthe network topology changes to avoid key information to be revealed. Also, base on the clustered structure, this scheme can reduce communication, computation and key storage overhead, which can solve the problem that each sensor node has limited resource. Comparison and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can perform better than most of the existing key management schemes in the network security, key storage overhead.

In networkedembeddedsensorsystems, data fusion is a viable solution to significantly reduce energy consumption while achieving real-time guarantee. Emerging data fusion applications demand efficient task allocation and scheduling techniques. However, existing approaches can not be effectively applied concerning both network. topology and wireless communications. In this paper, we formally model TATAS, the Topology-Aware Task Allocation and Scheduling problem for real-time data fusion applications, and show it is NP-complete. We also propose an efficient three-phase heuristic to solve the TATAS problem. We implement our technique and conduct experiments based on a simulation environment. Experimental results show that, as compared with traditional approaches, our technique can achieve significant energy saving and effectively meet the real-time requirements as well.
