Today, successful Artificial Intelligence applications rely on three pillars: machine learning algorithms, hardware for running them, and data for training and evaluating models. Although algorithms and hardware have already become commodities, obtaining up-to-date and high-quality data at scale is still challenging-but possible by building hybrid human-computer pipelines called human-in-the-loop. this talk will show how to make a significant business impact using human-in-the-loop pipelines that combine machine learning with crowdsourcing. We will share the experience of one of the world's largest search engines, Yandex. After a brief introduction to human-in-the-loop, we will describe two insightful case studies with a significant business impact at Yandex. First, we will show how to use human-in-the-loop with subjective human opinions to gather training data for learning-to-rank models in the online setting, crucial for the recommendation, e-commerce, and search applications. Second, we will show how human-in-the-loop combined with spatial crowdsourcing enables keeping information on brick-and-mortar businesses up-to-date and transformed into structured data, essential for social impactful applications like online maps and directories. then, we will present the practical challenges of deploying human-in-the-loop pipelines, focusing on common issues with task design and quality control [1]. We will demonstrate the end-to-end task design techniques that better fit for open-ended and subjective questions compared to widely-used classification tasks. We will present our recent advances in this field, including the use of large-scale language models (like BART and T5 [3]) for sequence aggregation [2]. Also, we will show the new evaluation datasets for textual and subjective annotation, which are publicly available at https://***/datasets. data mining in e-government is the process of translating data from government web site in useful knowledge that can provide various types of support in decision making. data mining can be applied to any type of data, but we have chosen to use this technique on open government data. Open data is a new concept in the development of e-government. It stands for a public sector information which is available for distribution and usage without any restrictions. Press releases may contain a lot of information that is especially applicable in strategic innovation management: they contain up-to-date information by definition and thus may give hints to upcoming trends and techniques. they also tell a lot about the strategies of partners, customers, and, most of all, competitors. We analysed many of today's existing press release search engines and identified a number of shortcomings: the query frontends do not provide enough flexibility with regards to search space restriction, the result lists presentation typically cannot be influenced by the user, and the ranking order stays often unclear. Press releases offer a number of features that make them useful for automatic handling but are widely ignored by today's search engines: they are relatively homogenously structured and contain certain kinds of easy-extractable meta-data that can be utilized for use cases such as monitoring trends (date of publishing), discovering geographical competency clusters (author and address information), or identifying relations between companies (firm name mentioning). We describe the prototype of a new press release search engine that makes use of the above-mentioned meta-data and additionally offers sophisticated search features tailored to the needs of innovation professionals.(1)

Founded in 2011, Silk Road was the first online anonymous marketplace, in which buyers and sellers could transact with anonymity guarantees far superior to those available in online or offline alternatives, thanks to the innovative use of cryptocurrencies and network anonymization. Business on Silk Road, primarily involving narcotics trafficking, was brisk and before long competitors appeared. After Silk Road was taken down by law enforcement, a dynamic ecosystem of online anonymous marketplaces emerged. that ecosystem is highly active, to this day, and has been surprisingly resilient to multiple law enforcement take down operations as well as ''exit scams,'' in which the operators of a marketplace abruptly abscond with any money left on the *** this talk, I describe insights we have gained from more than twelve years of active measurements of the online anonymous market ecosystem [1,2,3,4,5,6]. I first highlight the scientific challenges in collecting such data at scale, discuss how overall revenues rapidly grew to hundreds of millions of dollars per year, and describe the leading types of commerce taking place - primarily narcotics, but also cybercrime commoditization. Second, I present several analyses of vendors, ranging from our efforts to match a priori disparate handles to unique individuals, to predicting whether a vendor will be successful in the future. Finally, I introduce some of the unique data we could access, namely backend data from police seizures, and show how we used it to validate our *** online anonymous marketplaces have recently seen their influence dip a bit - possibly due to a combination of constant infighting and relentless police activity - the insights we gained from studying them for so long help considerably demystify the "dark web," and more generally, online crime ecosystems, which turn out to be very economically rational environments.

Promoted by major search engines, *** has become a widely adopted standard for marking up structured data in HTML web pages. In this paper, we use a series of largescale web crawls to analyze the evolution and adoption of *** over time. the availability of data from different points in time for both the schema and the websites deploying data allows for a new kind of empirical analysis of standards adoption, which has not been possible before. To conduct our analysis, we compare different versions of the *** vocabulary to the data that was deployed on hundreds of thousands of web pages at different points in time. We measure both top-down adoption (i.e., the extent to which changes in the schema are adopted by data providers) as well as bottom-up evolution (i.e., the extent to which the actually deployed data drives changes in the schema). Our empirical analysis shows that both processes can be observed. © 2015 acm.

the information age has made it easy to store large amounts of data. the proliferation of documents available on the web, on corporate intranets, on news wires, and elsewhere is overwhelming. However, while the amount of data available to us is constantly increasing, our ability to absorb and process this information remains constant. search engines only exacerbate the problem by making more and more documents available in a matter of a few key strokes. Text mining is a new and exciting research area that tries to solve the information overload problem by using techniques from data mining, machine learning, NLP, IR and knowledge management. Text mining involves the preprocessing of document collections (text categorization, term extraction), the storage of the intermediate representations, the techniques to analyze these intermediate representations (distribution analysis, clustering, trend analysis, association rules etc) and visualization of the results. In this tutorial we will present the general theory of Text mining and will demonstrate several systems that use these principles to enable interactive exploration of large textual collections. We will present a general architecture for text mining and will outline the algorithms and data structures behind the systems. Special emphasis will be given to efficient algorithms for very large document collections, tools for visualizing such document collections, the use of intelligent agents to perform text mining on the internet, and the use of information extraction to better capture the major themes of the documents. the tutorial will cover the state of the art in this rapidly growing area of research. this paper presents a data-driven approach for capturing the temporal variations in user search behaviour by modeling the dynamic query relationships using query-log data. the dependence between different queries (in terms of the query words and latent user intent) is represented using hypergraphs which allows us to explore more complex relationships compared to graph-based approaches. this timevarying dependence is modeled using the framework of probabilistic graphical models. the inferred interactions are used for query keyword suggestion - a key task in web information retrieval. Preliminary experiments using query logs collected from internal search engine of a large health care organization yield promising results. In particular, our model is able to capture temporal variations between queries relationships that reflect known trends in disease occurrence. Further, hypergraph-based modeling captures relationships significantly better compared to graph-based approaches. Copyright © 2012 acm.
