Semantic Net is among the problem solving systems in artificial intelligence fields. In this paper, we demonstrate how to design DNA-typed Semantic Net in order to apply DNA computing to artificial intelligence. Moreover, we propose a problem-solving method with DNA-typed Semantic Net. In this method, it is possible to reason out a reference object by using DNA computing algorithm. Proposed DNA-typed Semantic Net is used as a molecular knowledge based system. Vertexes and edges of the DNA-typed Semantic Net are encoded to four kinds of nucleotide, Single-stranded DNAs are hybridized and ligated to let them the double-stranded DNAs with the complementary sequences of input molecules and knowledge based ones. For the molecular knowledge based system, we estimate the computational complexity by using a simulation. Proposed problem-solving method is performed by DNA-based computer for a future generation of artificial intelligence.

this paper proposes a new approach for meteorology;estimating sea surface temperatures (SSTs) by using deep learning. SSTs are essential information for ocean-related industries but are hard to measure. Although multi-spectral imaging sensors on meteorological satellites are used for measuring SSTs over a wide area, they cannot measure sea temperature in regions covered by clouds, so most of the temperature data will be partially occluded. In meteorology, data assimilation with physics-based simulation is used for interpolating occluded SSTs, and can generate physically-correct SSTs that match observations by satellites, but it requires huge computational cost. We propose a low-cost learning-based method using pre-computed data-assimilation SSTs. Our restoration model employs adversarial physical model loss that evaluates physical correctness of generated SST images, and restores SST images in real time. Experimental results with satellite images show that the proposed method can reconstruct physically-correct SST images without occlusions. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

the distinctive features of the Bveritas online news integration archive are as follows: 1) automatic clustering of related news documents into themes;2) organization of these news clusters in a theme map;3) extraction of meaningful labels for each news cluster;and 4) generation of links to related news articles. Several ways of retrieving news stories from this Bveritas archive are described. the retrieval methods range from the usual query box and links to related stories, to an interactive world map that allows news retrieval by country, to an interactive theme map. Query and browsing are mediated by a Scatter/Gather interface that allows the user to select interesting clusters, out of which the subset of documents are gathered and re-clustered for the user to visually inspect. the user is then asked to select new interesting clusters. this alternating selection/clustering process continues until the user decides to view the individual news story titles. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2002.

the paper proposes a particular approach, with algorithms, for seeking a numerical solution of the parametric optimization problem with a stochastic criterion. Special attention is paid to algorithms that reduce the computation cost of stochastic optimization problems. Several algorithms for multivariant analysis, stochastic criterion estimation and discrete optimization using parallel and distributed processing techniques are discussed.

Fine-grained visual classification is a challenging task because of intra-class variation and inter-class similarity. Most fine-grained models predominantly focus on discriminative region localization which can effectively solve the intra-class variation, but ignore global information and the problem of inter-class similarity which easily leads to overfitting on specific samples. To address these issues, we develop an end-to-end model based on selecting discriminative features for fine-grained visual classification without the help of part or bounding box annotations. In order to accurately select discriminative features, we integrate effective information from different receptive fields to enhance the quality of features, then the features of discriminative regions detected by anchors and the whole image’s feature are jointly processed for classification. Besides, we propose a new loss function to optimize the model to find discriminative regions and prevent overfitting in the particular sample, which can simultaneously solve the problems of intra-class variation and inter-class similarity. Comprehensive experiments show that the proposed approach is superior to the state-of-the-art methods on CUB-200-2011, Stanford Cars and FGVC-Aircraft datasets. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

Previous work has shown that considering the category distance in the taxonomy tree can improve the performance of text classifiers. In this paper, we propose a new approach to further integrate more categorical information in the text corpus using the principle of multi-objective programming (MOP). that is, we not only consider the distance between categories defined by the branching of the taxonomy tree, but also consider the similarity between categories defined by the document/term distributions in the feature space. Consequently, we get a refined category distance by using MOP to leverage these two kinds of information. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in hierarchical text classification. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a skin infection caused by the lumpy skin disease virus, which belongs to the genus of Capripoxviruses. the disease transmitted by arthropod vectors has high morbidity and low mortality rates. Contagious through arthropod-borne feces and infected insects, it is virtually a non-vectored disease. It takes one to four weeks for viremia to develop. It affects all animals regardless of their age or gender. the use of LSD by cattle in Asia has recently been reported as a terrifying threat. A morbidity rate of 7.1% was reported among cattle for the first time in India for LSD. Clinical manifestations of the disease include fever, anorexia, nodules on the mucus membranes of the mouth, nose, genital, udder, eyes, and rectum, less milk production, infertility, abortion, and even death. First introduced in Bangladesh in July 2019, the disease has since spread to China, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Vietnam, and Myanmar in Southeast Asia. this paper presents a comprehensive overview of LSD outbreaks in asian countries over the past three years and also sheds light onto the existing methods of disease detection based on artificial intelligence techniques. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

Due to the enormous processing gains that are theoretically achievable by using quantum algorithms instead of classical algorithms to solve rather generic classes of numerical problems, it makes sense that one should evaluate their potential applicability, appropriateness, and efficiency for solving virtually any computationally intensive task. Since many types of control and optimization problems may be couched in terms of partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs), and since solutions to these types of problems are invariably extremely difficult to obtain, the use of quantum algorithms to help solve POMDP problems is investigated here. Quantum algorithms are indeed found likely to provide significant efficiency improvements in several computationally intensive tasks associated with solving POMDPs, particularly in the areas of searching, optimization, and parameter optimization and estimation.

In conference review management, it is very common that many papers being assigned are not liked by some reviewers due to their specialties or personal interests. In this paper, we consider a reviewer might only envy other reviewers who get a better set of papers than his. In this context, we proposes a new bi-objective optimization assignment model to efficiently and fairly assign papers to many competing reviewers, in which an index that measures the amount of envy is introduced. A fast iterative algorithm is proposed to solve the problem. the experimental results on real datasets shows that the algorithm achieves efficient and fair results and good computing performance, especially on large scale problems. this work is also meaningful for a number of similar allocation or matching problems.

the chattering behaviour that is inherent in standard sliding mode control is often an obstacle for practical application if neglected. In this paper, special attention is given to a particular chattering-free control method: 2-sliding "super twisting" control algorithm. Several control algorithms, including the standard and chattering free control algorithms, are assessed via position and speed control of a vector-controlled induction machine. Attention has also been paid to the friction dynamics in the induction machine system. Linear and non-linear friction dynamics in the induction machine model are considered. Simulation results using an induction machine model are first reported, followed by implementation results. A pre-defined reference signal is employed for tracking capability assessment as well as robustness against a high inertia load (about double the machine inertia) and DC motor load.
