One of the important technologies for protecting civilian life from terrorist attacks is explosive detection techniques. the global incidence of terrorist activities has been considerably reduced by the development of explosive detection techniques, which has been made possible by ongoing technology improvements. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are one of these developments that has become an innovative tool for explosives detection. this work explores recent empirical research on the application of WSNs to explosives detection and includes statistical analysis of the investigations. Wireless sensor network with compatible specialized sensors is required for effective explosive detection. three main wireless sensor system aspects that are relevant to explosives detection are covered in this research. It first looks at how scalable wireless sensors are in terms of explosives detection technologies. In the second section, it looks at the mobility and communication capabilities of WSNs and sensors in explosives detecting systems. Finally, it highlights potential hazards and weaknesses and addresses the crucial topic of data security inside wireless sensor networks used for explosive detection. the study also suggests incorporating drone assisted detection as a novel way to improve the coverage and effectiveness of explosives detection systems, adding to the continuous advancement of security technologies meant to shield civilian populations from terrorist threats. © 2024 ieee.

the advent of connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) is bringing forth a revolutionary new era of technology transforming transportation. For traffic to be optimized and safe, efficient vehicle-to-everything collaboration and improved autonomous vehicles (AV) decision-making are crucial. It becomes essential to make decisions in real time using information from vehicle sensors, software, and traffic data. As a part of such an In-Vehicle Network (IVN), over-the-air (OTA) software update service in CAVs needs to be facilitated rapidly, reliably, and securely. However, by taking advantage of vulnerabilities, attackers may quickly target the OTA software update as part of botnets to execute distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. the enormous volume and widespread nature of these DDoS cyber-attacks make it vital for the CAV industry to work quickly on identifying and preventing these threats. this paper proposes proof-of-concept experiments with the Hyperledger Fabric (HLF) Blockchain model to detect and prevent DDoS attacks in CAVs' OTA update systems. the proposed method implements Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) as the consensus mechanism and a distributed firewall to ensure the ledger is secure and tamper-proof. the system is tested on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Blockchain (BC) platform. the results show that the proposed approach effectively prevents DDoS attacks while ensuring fast transaction execution time.

the integration of distributed Generation (DG) systems, particularly wind turbine generators (WTGs), into power grids presents significant challenges in protection and coordination due to their unique characteristics. Traditional protection methods, such as overcurrent protection, are often insufficient for generator systems with limited short-circuit current contributions. this paper explores the limitations of conventional relay protection for wind turbines, highlighting issues such as reverse power flow, false tripping, and inadequate selectivity. We propose a solution involving Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) powered by current transformers (CTs) to improve protection functionality, adapt to changing network conditions, and enhance system reliability. the paper further discusses the advantages of IEDs, such as adaptive fault detection, real-time monitoring, and reduced downtime. We present an evaluation of various protection functions for wind turbines, including phase overcurrent, neutral overcurrent, and voltage-based protection, as well as the integration of IEDs with modern protection schemes. Finally, the feasibility of implementing CT-powered IEDs in a distribution network model is examined using the ETAP software suite, offering insights into their performance and impact on DG systems. © 2025 ieee.

With the continuous expansion of photovoltaic grid-connected capacity, precise prediction of photovoltaic power has become essential for ensuring the secure and stable operation of new energy power systems. this paper presents a distributed photovoltaic short-term power forecasting method, utilizing Autoformer and POPtree multi-point correction to overcome challenges associated with insufficient or inaccurate weather forecast data, thus enabling accurate predictions. the methodology begins with the MIC algorithm, which calculates feature correlation coefficients, helping to identify highly correlated features that are then fed into the Autoformer model for prediction, yielding preliminary long sequence prediction results. Next, a point-by-point prediction approach based on the tree model trains multiple lightGBM models, producing multi-point power predictions. Finally, by setting a weighted threshold α, the corresponding prediction results from different models are combined using a hybrid weighting method to derive the ultimate photovoltaic short-term power prediction outcomes. through a case analysis of photovoltaic output data in a specific station area, the results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves high-quality short-term photovoltaic output predictions even without relying on weather forecasting data. this method proves effective in meeting the demands of accurate photovoltaic power forecasting in practical scenarios. © 2023 ieee.

the emergence of smart storage systems for onions in modern agriculture presents farmers with both challenges and opportunities. these systems, equipped with sensors and control mechanisms, monitor temperature, humidity, and gas composition to detect issues like onion rot and optimize storage conditions. Data analytics tools aid in trend analysis for informed decision-making, while ensuring reliability, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Successful case studies demonstrate reduced post-harvest losses and increased profitability. A Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT)-based approach is introduced to enhance power quality in distributed energy integration with low-voltage substations. this method utilizes STFT to segment signals with a time-frequency window, computes power spectra, and monitors/analyzes disturbances. Power quality disturbances are identified and classified based on spectral characteristics. Tests reveal significant efficiency gains, reduced recognition time, and lower absolute error, demonstrating the method's ability to swiftly and accurately identify multi-source power quality disturbances, thereby improving the power quality of distributed energy access in low-voltage substations. © 2024 ieee.

'Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) have gained considerable attention for their versatility in diverse applications, from environmental monitoring to healthcare. Nonetheless, effective energy management poses a significant challenge within WSNs due to the limitations of battery resources in their nodes. Addressing this concern, this research presents an energy optimization methodology for WSNs by leveraging the Greedy Low-energy Adaptive Clustering (GLVC) technique. the proposed method aims to determine an optimal parameter configuration that minimizes energy consumption while maintaining the desired network performance. through experimental simulations conducted on a network model, this approach demonstrates its effectiveness in substantially reducing energy usage without compromising the network's efficiency.' © 2023 ieee.

the rapid growth of wearable sensor technologies holds substantial promise for the field of personalized and context-aware Human Activity Recognition. Given the inherently decentralized nature of data sources within this domain, the utilization of multi-agent systems with their inherent decentralization capabilities presents an opportunity to facilitate the development of scalable, adaptable, and privacy-conscious methodologies. this paper introduces a collaborative distributed learning approach rooted in multi-agent principles, wherein individual users of sensor-equipped devices function as agents within a distributed network, collectively contributing to the comprehensive process of learning and classifying human activities. In this proposed methodology, not only is the privacy of activity monitoring data upheld for each individual, eliminating the need for an external server to oversee the learning process, but the system also exhibits the potential to surmount the limitations of conventional centralized models and adapt to the unique attributes of each user. the proposed approach has been empirically tested on two publicly accessible human activity recognition datasets, specifically PAMAP2 and HARth, across varying settings. the provided empirical results conclusively highlight the efficacy of inter-individual collaborative learning when contrasted with centralized configurations, both in terms of local and global generalization.

A novel instrument based on the tilt-drag principle is developed for measuring the instantaneous velocity of the water current. Instead to obtain the tilt by an accelerometer, a magnetometer is used. For a range of underwater velocities from 5 cm/s to 50 cm/s, the resolution of the instrument is 8.5 bits. the water velocity is obtained using edge computation by a microcontroller with a core based on an ARM CORTEX M0+. the error is less than a 5% and the sensitivity 0.12 cm/s/LSB

Virtual sensors model the sensing operation of physical sensors deployed in an area of interest by generating sensory data with accuracy and precision close to those collected by physical sensors. their use in applications such as augmenting the infrastructure of IoT facilities and test beds, monitoring and calibrating the operation of physical sensors, and developing Digital Twins of physical systems have led virtual sensors to attract research attention. Machine learning provides methods for modelling patterns in complex and big data generated by IoT sensing devices, allowing to model the behaviour of these devices. In this work, we investigate ML methods as means of implementation for virtual sensors. In particular, we evaluate the performance of six ML methods in terms of their effectiveness, accuracy and precision in generating sensory data based on data from physical sensors. In our study, we use a multi-modal dataset comprising IoT sensory data for temperature, humidity and illumination collected over a period of two years in an office space at University of Geneva. Our results show that the best performing model at predicting an output of a missing sensor is the Random Forest method, achieving MAPE error below 3%, 5% and 18% respectively for temperature, humidity and illuminance. the worst performing models were the linear radial basis function neural network and linear regression. In future research, we plan to deploy the best performing models natively on IoT devices, making use of tinyML and extreme edge computing methods.
