When a cable fault occurs, timely fault location is essential for quickly restoring power supply. Traditional methods such as the bridge method, pulse reflection method, and impact discharge acoustic measurement method suffer from limitations like short detection distances and low positioning accuracy. Compared with conventional cable fault detection and location techniques, distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems offer advantages such as precise positioning, high sensitivity, and long-distance monitoring. However, previous studies on cable partial discharge detection using DAS typically rely on sensitivity-enhancing devices or multiple loops of bare fiber to improve system sensitivity by increasing the efficiency and length of acoustic interaction with the optical fiber. In practical applications, these sensitivity-enhancing devices and multiple loops of bare fiber significantly complicate construction and are prone to damage. this study demonstrates experimentally that using an ultra-low self-noise, low-repetition-rate DAS system can effectively detect discharge signals from cable faults without the need for sensitivity-enhancing devices or multiple loops of bare fiber, provided the optical cable is straightened. this significantly improves the feasibility of DAS for practical cable fault detection and location. © 2024 ieee.

One of the leading frontiers of the Internet of things (IoT) era, smart building systems have made modern homes more innovative, interconnected, and autonomous. the goal of a smart home system is to enhance users' comfort, safety, and efficiency. In this paper, a smart building testbed is designed and constructed as a cyber-physical system that allows testing and validating building control algorithms, communication networks, and user interfaces. the building control unit is responsible for optimizing the performance of testbed actuators (thermal, lighting, and access systems), whereby building parameters are aggregated via a set of distributed sensors and communicated to a management system. this data is observed and analyzed by the control system to produce optimal control commands. the building communication network is developed based on the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, in which subscribers receive the measurement data, format it, and send it to the user-interface unit. the user interface is implemented in a Node-RED platform, where the data is visualized in real-time, and users are capable of interacting with the automation system. Experimental results demonstrate the usefulness of such a prototype for smart building monitoring and control research. © 2021 ieee.

this paper addresses the growing need for scalable and flexible data acquisition systems in modern power grids. It proposes a new generation system utilizing distributed technologies, big data analytics, and microservices to enhance real-time data acquisition, storage, and analysis. the system architecture is designed with five layers: communication management, data storage, computation and analysis, business applications, and interactive sharing. the system was tested in a real grid environment, demonstrating significant improvements in data processing efficiency, accuracy, and business application response times. the results indicate that this system effectively overcomes the limitations of traditional acquisition systems, making it well-suited for the complexities of modern smart grids. this research provides a robust solution for enhancing the reliability and scalability of energy data acquisition systems. © 2024 ieee.

Ultra-dense mobile edge computing (MEC) is expected as an effective approach to provide services with ultra-low latency and massive connectivity, which is extremely important for delay-sensitive applications. In this paper, we study service instance (SI) placement for delay-sensitive applications in ultra-dense MEC, which decides where to place applications and the required data (programming codes and datasets). In general, the SI placement problem is a combinatorial optimization and usually does not have low-complexity optimal solutions. Existing centralized policies are difficult to implement due to the high complexity, especially when edge servers are densely deployed in the ultra-dense network (UDN). To design an approach that can make SI placement decisions quickly and efficiently, this paper investigates a distributed strategy for multi-user multi-server edge systems in UDN. We first formulate the SI placement problem as a non-linear combinatorial optimization, which is proven to be NP-hard to compute a centralized optimal solution. then, we propose an uncooperative game to design a low-complexity distributed algorithm. We further analyze the properties of the game and prove the existence of pure strategy Nash Equilibrium. A polynomial-complexity distributed algorithm is proposed to get the Nash Equilibrium. theoretical analysis shows the algorithm's convergence and the bound of the price of anarchy (PoA), which serves as a performance guarantee in the worst-case scenarios compared to the global optimum. Numerical results validate the convergence and near-optimal performance of the proposed distributed algorithm. © 2021 ieee.

this study discusses about various approaches available for achieving energy-efficient data collection in wireless sensor networks. In wireless sensor networks, movable sink (MULE-Mobile Ubiquitous LAN Extensions) moving at a constant pace over a constrained path may increase energy efficiency. the mobile sink may randomly visit each sensor node and gather data in a short amount of time. these methods provide several hurdles in terms of data collection and power usage. To overcome this issue, this study has created the Maximum Amount Shortest Path (MASP) data gathering approach, which boosts performance. the MASP system is implemented using a twophase communication mechanism. Simulations in NS2 are used to test the suggested algorithms and protocols. the wireless sensor network has gotten a lot of interest in the academic community in the past several years. Many factors, such as resource limits on energy and power needed for computing, have been extensively researched. Because sensor nodes are battery-operated devices, the fundamental challenge in Wireless sensor Networks i s reducing the amount of energy spent by the nodes so that the network's lifetime may be extended. WSN also has privacy problems. Taking these two factors into consideration, this study examines the energy consumption of sensor node components and highlight the key possibilities for energy conservation in WSN in this work. Different battery management and security strategies that are currently available in WSN are also analyzed. Finally, this research study has come up with some energy saving ideas for future WSN research. © 2023 ieee.

With the continuous increase in voltage levels and capacities of power systems, timely and accurate monitoring of the insulation status of high-voltage electrical equipment is crucial for maintaining the safe and stable operation of the system. Insulation monitoring requires the measurement of mA-level small currents, yet traditional sensors are hindered by limitations such as large size and complex structures, which are unfavorable for intelligent and portable development. therefore, this paper delves into the application of Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) current sensors and their magnetic flux concentrator (MFC) structures. through simulation experiments, it is concluded that when selecting an MFC, one should prioritize those with a large cross-sectional area and a small width to ensure the most accurate measurement results. this research paper provides vital theoretical foundations and experimental support for optimizing the design of TMR current sensors and achieving high-precision insulation monitoring. © 2024 ieee.

Various low-power and low-cost network sensors are employed in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) to detect changes in surroundings, gather data, analyze the data, and transport the processed data through a base station (BS). Additionally to the dispersion uneven of the clusterheads, this sort of network experiences limited power anda brief lifespan. the LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol is employed to address this issue since it guarantees that chosen cluster leaders are going to be evenly distributed throughout the network, hence reducing energy consumption. Simulation results demonstrate that the improved approach can reduce energy usage and extend the network's life-cycle. © 2023 ieee.

Benefitting from the combination of the idea of pipeline with model parallelism and data parallelism, pipeline parallelism improves the efficiency of distributed deep learning systems significantly. However, suffering from the bubbles and gaps caused by the imbalance of different stages in pipeline, it can not output ideal performance yet. To explore the potential of pipeline parallelism further, we propose a novel approach called PipePrune, which adds a convolutional layer pruning strategy to pipeline creatively to reduce the bubbles and gaps. For the convolutional layers with heavy overheads, some unimportant kernels are pruned by the measurement of the L1-norm. this approach makes the processing overheads of different pipeline stages more balanced. the experimental results show that, compared with state-of-the-art pipeline methods, PipePrune can improve the training speeds obviously (e.g. for ResNet50 on ImageNet, about 30% speed improvement is realized with only 1.1% loss of training accuracies). © 2021 ieee.

Along with the growth of seismic observation networks, the amount of seismic observation data is also increasing rapidly with the form of fast arrival stream, and it is an important and challenging task to store seismic data in time. However, two bottlenecks (slow read/write speed, poor user concurrency) still make the practical applications difficult. We proposes an Apache Druid-based storage solution for seismic observation data streams. the solution is more adaptable to the read/write requirement of large-scale seismic data streams. Specifically, we achieve real-time observation for two aspects: (I) using Kafka as a distributed message exchange system;and (II) implementing accesses and exchange with massive seismic stream data onto the Kafka indexing service provided by Druid. the experimental results show that the Druid-based temporal data storage solution has better stream input and real-time query performance compared with the existed Hbase storage method. © 2021 ieee.

In this paper1, we present an additive manufacturing (AM) method to implement structural electronics using an off-the-shelf fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printer with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) filament, conductive silver ink, and electronics components in standard packages. As a demonstrator, a surface reflectance sensor has been implemented. the structure consists of several 3D-printed TPU layers, 3D channels for the conductors, and cavities for components. A comparison is made between the performance of a traditional implementation on rigid PCB and the new sensor. the study shows that the chosen approach can be used for AM structural electronics. © 2023 ieee.
