One of the important issues in wireless sensor network (WSN) is to k-cover the target sensing field and to extend its lifetime. We propose a method to k-cover the field and maximize the WSN lifetime by moving mobile sensor nodes to appropriate positions for a WSN consisting of both static and mobile sensor nodes which periodically collect environmental information. Our target problem is NP-hard. So, we propose a genetic algorithm (GA) based scheme to find a near optimal solution in practical time. In order to speed up the calculation, we devised a method to check a sufficient condition of k-coverage of the field. For the problem that nodes near the sink node have to forward the data from farther nodes, we make a tree where the amount of communication traffic is balanced among all nodes, and add this tree to the initial candidate solutions of our GA-based algorithm. through computer simulations, we confirmed that our method achieves much longer k-coverage lifetime than conventional methods for 100 to 300 node WSNs.

We argue in this paper that the models that have been used to study distributed algorithms on Bluetooth networks do not adequately model these networks in most cases, and were often oversimplified. this is mainly due to how the many restrictions that the Bluetooth specifications impose on such networks are taken into account, and the lack of "shared knowledge" of these restrictions among the researchers of this field. We give some examples to back our argument. We give also some suggestions and proposals to overcome these issues.

sensor Networks consist of multiple devices equipped with some sensing apparatus. the devices in the network may be homogeneous or heterogeneous, yet they will coordinate in order to accomplish a pre-defined task. Withthe rising interest in the use of sensor Networks in various applications, the sensor nodes need to subsist in a dynamic environment and react in a timely fashion to environmental stimuli. Unfortunately, the current paradigm in sensor Network relies on static tasking of the nodes to support a common task;which ultimately leads to deployment of various networks to cover a common area so long as the tasks and owners of these networks differ. Straying away from this paradigm, our work introduces a framework to enable nodes to support dynamic tasking in a dynamic environment by pushing computation to the edge through FPGA-based reconfigurable nodes with increased processing power. Furthermore, we contend that the sensing apparatus available on the nodes limits the range of applications that such nodes will support. As such, reconfigurability of the nodes can yield the most efficient and responsive hardware implementation of algorithms to support common tasks of applications. the benefits of our approach are highlighted through the introduction of a target-tracking node that is reconfigurable and provides increased response time to stimuli.

A new power management circuit which includes energy conversion sub-system (photovoltaic battery),energy storage sub-system(lithium-ion battery+ultracapacitor energy conversion sub-system) and power management sub-system is designed. the power management circuit provides electricity to the wireless sensor node. the energy conversion sub-system adopts four solar photovoltaic batteries to capture energy from the enviornment. One of the solar photovoltaic batteries is installed above the packaged wireless sensor node, the others are installed on the three sides. Experimented under standard sunlight, it is tested that the V-T curve and I-T curve of lithium-ion battery and wireless sensor node and the response curve of sunshine change and that of loaded power pulse of the energy management system. As can be seen clearly, in the energy mangement system where the lithium-ion battery-ultracapacitor hybrid energy storage technology is applied, the charge/discharge procedure of the lithium-ion battery gets remarkably optimization due to ultracapacitor's filtering function, so as to slow its aging course.. Besides, despite the change of voltage upon lithium-ion battery, the wireless sensor node can work steadily as realizing its continous working. thus, the rationality of power management system is proved.

As a novel technology of information acquisition and processing, WSN possesses a great strategic meaning in overall improving the modernize level of precision agriculture. Routing protocol is an indispensable part which ensures the normal operation of Wireless sensor Network and the high efficient transmission of information. the existing routing protocols for Wireless sensor Network are classified in this paper, while comparison and analysis research are also given on route structure, energy consumption, robustness, expansibility, node mobility, data fusion technology, whether QoS is supported and maximizing the network lifecycle of all kinds of routing protocols. At the end of this paper, a simulation research is made with NS2 network simulation software on the dynamic clustering process of LEACH protocols, which is a typical WSN routing protocol. the simulation results show that the random cluster-head selecting method in LEACH protocol cannot ensure the number of cluster heads completely equal to the anticipant optimal one during the dynamic clustering process, and it also exists that the distances between cluster heads are too close or sensors of some regions are too far from their cluster heads. All above these situations cause the decreasing of LEACH protocol's performance.

In this paper, we present a Smart Transducer Interface Module (STIM) for distributed optical fibre smart sensors. the STEM is a general purpose interface that has been designed to be used with intensiometric optical fibre sensors. the interface is made up of 2 optical fibre PIN receivers, a differential amplifier and a digital signal processor. the two received signals are differentially amplified to increase sensitivity and the signal-to-noise ratio. A DSP evaluation board is used as the intelligence of the STIM, which has onboard ADC. the STIM was successfully used as an embedded system monitoring both temperature and strain, and to simply switch on the onboard LED when these measurands exceeded a predetermined threshold value. the sensing system, without the DSP, was also used to successfully detect dynamic strain signals. We also present the future directions for work on distributed optical fibre smart sensors.
