Prolonging the network lifetime is one of design challenges for data transmission in wireless sensor networks(WSNs) which are affected by the energy sink-hole problem. Recent researches show the energy sink-hole problem can be overcome by balancing the sensor energy consumptions. In this paper, we present an energy-balanced consumption scheme by varying the transmission ranges of sensors in a circular WSNs. In our scheme, the circular field is sliced into K concentric circular bands with different widths, the sensors deliver its data to the sink with a range of the band width in a hop-by-hop mode. the analysis shows that to keep energy-balanced consumption the widths of the bands can be determined only by the first band (the inner band) width. To meet the constraints of fixed circular network radius, a binary search algorithm has been designed for searching the first band width. Numerical results show that the band widths should become wide with its distance to the sink increasing in order to guaranteing the energy-balanced consumption. It is also shown that there is an optimal band number to minimize the total energy consumption, which is proportional to the network circular radius, that is there is an optimal average band width.

A wireless sensor network can be divided into several clusters. Each cluster has a number of sensors nodes and one of the nodes is elected as the coordinator. the coordinator is responsible for not only the general mission but also collecting the sensed data of other nodes and routing to the sink. Accordingly, the energy-consumption is higher than other nodes. therefore, the coordinator selection methods will affect the life-time of a network. Besides, the conventional coordinator selection method cannot be available to different requests of sensor networks. In this study, we divided the missions into two types. One is that a mission can be performed by most of the sensor nodes. the other is that a mission can be performed by just few of the sensor nodes. Accordingly, we give different selection methods to suitable the requests. Simulation results demonstrate our study can enlarge the life time for different requests of the sensor networks. © 2009 ieee.

We propose a coordinated medium access control (MAC) protocol in dynamic spectrum access networks namely distributed coordinated dynamic spectrum reservation (DCDSR) protocol. All primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs) are equipped with two transceivers operating in a dedicated control channel and licensed data channels to transmit/receive control and data packets in the corresponding control and data frames, respectively. PUs will inform SUs which channels will be used in next data frame and then SUs reserve those unused channels by contending with each other during contention interval (CI) in control frame. the available channels which can be reserved by SUs will depend on the channel usage of PUs and further affect the throughput of SUs. Whenever SUs successfully reserve channel in CI, they will start access reserved channel in next data frame after the end of CI. this will cause the wasted idle waiting time for those SUs which have successfully reserved channel whenever the CI doesn't finish. SUs which couldn't successfully reserve channel in current control frame should try to reserve again in next control frame. thus, the duration of CI will affect the delay and wasted idle waiting time of SUs. We analyze and simulate the performance of throughput, delay and wasted idle waiting time in DCDSR. the analytical and simulation results show that the proposed DCDSR performs very well.

Fibre optic Fabry-Perot interferometric pressure sensors have proved many orders of excellent measurements system, but they suffer from limitations in sensitivity and resolution caused by the trade-off in designing the sensor when very thin diaphragm is needed. By reducing the diaphragm thickness increases the deflection range, but reduces the diaphragm strength and therefore increases the risk of mechanical failure. the pressure sensor has been designed and its fabrication process using MEMS techniques is explained. this paper proposes a new diaphragm material for the fibre optic Fabry-Perot pressure sensor. Using a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), the limitation on sensor resolution and sensitivity are overcome. the goal of this research is to design and analyze the PDMS diaphragm to enhance the consistency and sustainability of fibre optic Fabry-Perot pressure sensor for medical measurements which require a minimum resolution of ∼1 mmHg over all the physiological pressure range (∼300 mmHg) [1,2]. Comparisons of theoretical and simulation with Coventor Ware simulator on mechanical part of the pressure sensor are made. Also, an explanation viewing the sensor's diaphragm stability is provided. © 2009 ieee.

It has been demonstrated that clustering is an effective technique to meet the energy constraint problem of wireless sensor networks. Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is a well known cluster-based routing protocol. However, the number of cluster beads produced by LEACH in each round varies in a large range around the optimal which shortens the lifetime of the network. In this paper, we proposed a new routing protocol, called two step cluster head selection (TSCHS) routing protocol, to solve the cluster head number variability problem of LEACH. In TSCHS, cluster head selection is divided into two stages. Firstly, temporary cluster beads are selected in initial selection stage with the number larger than the optimal value, and then cluster heads of optimal number are chosen out of the temporary cluster heads according to both residual energy and distances from them to the base station. As a result, the network works with the optimal number of clusters. Simulation results show that TSCHS can make the whole network energy load more balanced and prolong the network lifetime.

Cooperative transmission has been shown to he able to greatly improve system performance by exploring the broadcasting nature of wireless channels and cooperation among users. this paper proposes a cooperation strategy among rational nodes in a wireless cooperative relaying network as an effort to solve two basic problems, i.e., when to cooperate and how to cooperate. First, a symmetric system model comprising two transmitter nodes (TN) and one destination node (DN) is presented. In this model, each TN plays an equal role and acts as a source as well as a potential relay and has the right to decide the amount of power it should contribute for cooperation. Second, referring to the evolutionary game algorithm (EGA), the above problems are formulated as an optimal problem under certain constraints. then, a cooperative strategy based on the EGA is proposed, in which TNs will cooperatively work and each will share a certain fraction of its power for relaying. With the moving of nodes, the EGA can adjust the power allocation parameters adaptively. Simulation results demonstrate that when cooperation takes place, the overall system transmission rate will benefit from the proposed strategy and those nodes with good channels will spend more power to cooperate with others.

In wireless sensor networks, as energy limited systems, communication is a costly activity. For this reason duty cycling approaches are commonly used, because they can limit the overall power consumption of a sensor node tremendously by shutting down communication sub-circuits whenever they are not used. However, for efficient power reduction nodes have to know the exact times when they are supposed to communicate in the network. Synchronization can be used to accomplish this and comes with additional features such as the possibility of cooperative sampling at a given time. In this paper we propose a synchronization protocol that introduces low overhead due to broadcast master-node synchronization, while still accomplishing synchronization accuracies in the order of 100 mu s. the protocol is intended for periodic data collection applications that are common tasks in environmental monitoring systems. Since changes in environmental conditions can have a large effect on the synchronization behavior, we further present a temperature compensation algorithm for the proposed synchronization protocol that allows stable usage of synchronization in a wide range of temperatures. Measurement results are taken from implementing the protocol on sensor node platforms and show the real world performance of the presented methods.

the energy of node in Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) is severely constrained, it is very important to maximize the network lifetime by reducing the data dissemination among the nodes. In order to enhance energy efficiency and prolong the system lifetime, a novel data gathering algorithm based on mutual supportability and grey prediction is presented. According to of nodes' the historical data, cluster heads make the decision which nodes are redundant, and then predict some data of these redundant nodes. In order to improve precision of the fused data, the mutual supportability of nodes and the parameter of the grey mode must be modified periodically. With the data gathering algorithm, the frequency of data gathering and energy consumption in intra-cluster could be reduced. the simulation results demonstrate that the data gathering algorithm is effective, and the system lifetime is prolonged. © 2009 ieee.

In a nuclear power plant (NPP), periodic sensor calibrations are required to assure sensors are operating correctly. However, only a few faulty sensors are found to be calibrated. For the safe operation of an NPP and the reduction of unnecessary calibration, on-line calibration monitoring is needed. this paper presents an on-line sensor drift monitoring technique, based on a Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT), for detecting and estimating mean shifts in sensor signal. Also, principal component-based Auto-Associative support vector regression (AASVR) is proposed for the sensor signal validation of the NPP. Response surface methodology (RSM) is employed to efficiently determine the optimal values of SVR hyperparameters. the proposed model was confirmed with actual plant data of Kori NPP Unit 3. the results show that the accuracy of the model and the fault detection performance of the GLRT are very competitive.
