Design of energy efficient schemes for data gathering is an important concern for lifetime enhancement of wireless sensor networks. Variation in the distances of nodes from the Base Station and differences in inter-nodal distances are primary factors causing unequal energy dissipation among the nodes. thus energy difference between the various nodes increases with time resulting in degraded network performance. the LEACH and PEGASIS schemes which provided elegant solutions to the problem suffer basic drawbacks due to randomization of cluster heads and greedy chain formation respectively. In this paper, we propose an Optimized Lifetime Enhancement (OLE) Scheme which shows enhanced performance over these schemes. OLE increases the network performance by ensuring a sub-optimal energy dissipation of the individual nodes despite their random deployment. It employs modern heuristics like particle swarm optimization instead of the greedy algorithm as in PEGASIS to construct energy efficient routing paths. Extensive simulations validate the improved performance of OLE. ©2009 ieee.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) use tiny, inexpensive sensor nodes with several distinguishing characteristics: they have very low processing power and radio ranges, permit very low energy consumption and perform limited and specific monitoring and sensing functions. However, its security becomes an issue because in WSNs, there is virtual communication by passing the data through sensor via internet. Caused of its limited capability, an intruder can attack the communication easier. Furthermore, routing in wireless sensor networks has, to some extent, been reasonably well studied. However, most current research has focused primarily on providing the most energy efficient routing. there is a great need for both secure and energy efficient routing protocols in WSN. therefore, this project studies about the packets in WSN. To achieve the objectives, this project used AODV routing protocol to analyze the packets abnormalities in WSNs by using simulation technique. To show the differentiations of packets behaviors, the simulations have been conducted on AODV routing protocol under malicious node and without malicious node. It also conducts an analysis of packets behavior on flooding attack. © 2009 ieee.

this article analyzes the major factors and features of the Cyanophyta problem, and makes a research on sonic key attributes so as to build up a monitor system by analyzing all its steps, and utilizing the current theory and methodology. this article, in view of the traits of the Cyanophyta monitor techniques, fully focuses on the remote wireless monitoring of Cyanophyta in Tai Lake, and have realized software and hardware design of the end device, data excess point and remote monitoring platform. the application of WSNs has improved the Cyanophyta monitoring technique.

6LoWPAN is a low-power wireless personal area network and a technique to apply TCP/IP stack to sensor networks. By installing IPv6 stack to the sensor node, the sensor networks have interoperability with the external IPv6 network. To solve the 6LoWPAN's restrictions, IETF working group recently published problems, IPv6 header compression, and routing mechanism requirement documents through their study. Among the suggested routing mechanisms, there is a hierarchical routing protocol designed to establish a hierarchical tree with parent and child nodes to transmit packets. However, the authors design only the address allocation mechanism and the routing mechanism. In our paper, we describe one of the hierarchical routing protocol's problems and suggest a mechanism to avoid the bias routing tree that could happen in the condition child nodes don't attach to parents nodes evenly. the simulation result shows that the four nodes are suitable for communication. © 2009 ieee.

We perform biological simulations in the virtual reality context. In order to run large simulations, we choose to put together a set of standard computers and create a grid in charge of distributing the biological simulations. We propose to make the distribution on to the ReISCOP generic model, developed in our laboratory which allows us to easily design biological simulations. this method is also based on the replication of passive elements. It is a spatial distribution in which local simulations are periodically synchronized and the consistency of replicated data is checked. this synchronization is not a strong synchronization but a weak one. the consistency method is built on the transmission between nodes of the grid of the state variations of the data. the software used for distributing simulations is named DIVA, and is an individual based software located on each node of the grid DIVA confers a peer to peer architecture upon the grid.

TDMA-based MAC protocols are considered an energy efficient solution to prolong wireless sensor network lifetime. the topology learning and collection process, together with the used scheduling scheme, are essential parts in the design of such MAC protocols. Previous MAC and multihop scheduling protocols rely completely on CSMA to exchange topology scheduling information. However, for large or dense sensor networks, CSMA may lengthen the time it takes to reach a state in which enough information has been collected to build a highly conflict free multihop schedule. In addition, due to the nature of CSMA, collisions may occur during packet transmission. these factors cause energy waste in an environment where energy resources are scarce. In this paper, we propose PROGRESSIVE, a time and energy efficient topology discovery and multihop scheduling protocol that progressively schedules nodes as their topology information becomes available at the sink. the proposed protocol controls the time during which CSMA is used for control message transmission, and hence, energy consumption is reduced. Simulation results show that PROGRESSIVE is able to schedule a large number of nodes in less time and energy compared to DRAND. © 2009 ieee.

this work proposes an interface design of a low-power programmable system on chip for intelligent wireless sensor nodes to reduce the overall power consumption of the heart disease monitoring system, by lending them the capability of processing complex functions and performing rapid computations on a large amount of data at the node. this facilitates the node to intelligently monitor a medical signal for impending events instead of transmitting the signal to the base station constantly. Lowering the transmission data rate decreases the transmission power consumption in a node, thereby lengthening the node life and in turn increasing the reliability of the network. this work also implements a thresholding technique, which controls the data transmission rate depending on the value of the monitored signal, and a cardiac monitoring system that performs computations at the node for the detection of either a skipped heart beat or a reduced heart rate variability, in which event the signal is transmitted to the base station for monitoring/recording or alerting the crew. the performance analysis of the system shows that there are reductions in the system power consumption and data transmission rate, which in turn reduces the network traffic and averts congestion.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs) individual sensor nodes are subject to security compromises. An adversary can use compromised sensor nodes to inject false reports into the WSN. If undetected, these false reports are forwarded to the base station. Such attacks by compromised sensor nodes can not only result in false alarms but also depletion of the limited amount of energy in battery powered sensor nodes. the statistical en-routing filtering (SEF) scheme can detect and drop false reports during the forwarding process. In SEF, the number of the message authentication codes (MAC length) is important for detecting false reports and saving energy in network. In this paper, we present a fuzzy-based MAC length determination method for SEF. If there are fewer nodes surrounding the occurred event in the field in the network than the MAC length, the node cannot generate a legitimate report in SEF. the fuzzy-based method can prevent this problem and provide energy savings. We evaluated the proposed method's performance via simulation.

Sharing of information is an important topic for healthcare. Traditionally, information sharing uses client/server technology, but it has many shortcomings in the cases of huge number of users and huge amount of data. P2P technology is now considered as the suitable computing model to the above cases. there are mainly two types of P2P technologies -the unstructured approach and the structured approach based on distributed Hash Table (DHT). However, these two kinds of P2P approaches do not care about the semantic meaning of the nodes. they do not care about the nodes whose users may take different roles in social groups in the communities. this leads to lack of powerful solutions for selecting healthcare information by complicated conditions. Here, we present a semantic P2P Network- Virtual Hierarchical Tree Gird Organizations (VIRGO) for healthcare to solve the above problem. It has aspects of decentralization, scalability and availability. In the semantic P2P network (VIRGO) for healthcare, the information of healthcare is classified into hierarchical domains. One computer node holds the healthcare information of one domain. the nodes construct the VIRGO network according to the domains of their contents. therefore, the users (such patients, doctors, hospitals, academic institutes, etc) are involved in the semantic P2P network, and can connect directly in peer to peer ways and share information and knowledge directly. It can discover the complicated healthcare information, users, agents, companies, and so on by SQL-like statements. © 2009 ieee.

One of the primary tools for performance analysis of multi-tier systems are standardized benchmarks. they are used to evaluate system behavior under different circumstances to assess whether a system can handle real workloads in a production environment. Such benchmarks are also helpful to resolve situations when a system has an unacceptable performance or even crashes. System administrators and developers use these tools for reproducing and analyzing circumstances which provoke the errors or performance degradation. However, standardized benchmarks are usually constrained to simulating a set of pre-fixed workload distributions. We present a benchmarking framework which overcomes this limitation by generating real workloads from pre-recorded system traces. this distributed tool allows more realistic testing scenarios, and thus exposes the behavior and limits of a tested system with more details. Further advantage of our framework is its flexibility. For example, it can be used to extend standardized benchmarks like TPC-W thus allowing them to incorporate workload distributions derived from real workloads.
