When aiming to understand object-oriented distributed applications, reverse engineering processes can model the systems by representing the aspects specific to the object orientation. While these representations provide means for in-depth analysis of various characteristics of the applications, such approaches may ignore their most important traits, specifically those related to the distribution itself. this paper describes the representation of object-oriented distributed systems we have developed to support our reverse engineering approach, and presents the rationale behind the model. the model is built so that the process focuses on the most important aspects of this class of applications, therefore efficiently achieving system understanding by narrowing the search for relevant knowledge. We have applied the process on a couple of case studies, and evaluated the systems by instantiating the model to drive the assessment of the distribution-related characteristics.

Wireless sensor networks have become an important field in our daily lives. A particularly important issue is prolonging the network lifetime using energy saving schemes. this article focuses on tuning an energy saving scheme using coverage metrics. We proposed the energy saving scheme in a previous work. It is based mainly on sensors redundancy combined with graph theory. We introduced best obstacle avoidance by computing the rank of each trajectory. We also created different test scenarios for proving our approach. Tests results are presented in the end.

Today most so called `black spots' have been eliminated from the road networks. However, intersections can still be regarded as black spots. Depending on the region and country, from 30% to 60% of all injury accidents and up to one third of the fatalities occur at intersections. this is due mainly to the fact that accident scenarios at intersections are among the most complex ones, since different categories of road user interact in these limited areas with crossing trajectories.

Resource replication has been emerging as one of the most widely studied phenomena in a distributed environment. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed approach, named MetroReplica, to achieve the global optimized resource replication. MetroReplica is a Markov Chain Mote Carlo sampling algorithm based on the metropolis-hastings algorithm, which never employ the global information but a replication query message transmitted via a limited hops link path. Such message is generated and transmitted to the mobile node to be finally assigned with the allocating replica within at most TTL hops forwarding following the proposed Markov transition matrix. the proof to verify MetroReplica is illustrated in this paper and simulation results suggest a small TTL value, e.g. TTL = 10, is sufficient for an implementation in reality to perform well.

Wireless sensor networks have many challenging issues to be addressed . the network energy consideration is one of the most important of the design challenges. Various routing protocols have been evolved to address this network energy criterion, among them one of the well known protocols is minimum cost forwarding. We consider cost field based approach to minimum cost forwarding with back-off based cost-field set up. In this paper we propose improvements in the above protocol based on threshold considerations-E th & B th ,in which whenever any node in the network fails to satisfy threshold criterion ,new minimum cost paths are formed. this ensures balanced energy consumption in the network and optimum path maintenance .In addition our work also introduces network coding for packet forwarding in above mentioned protocol. Whenever a node is in the forwarding path of more than one source node it combines the packets to be forwarded using distributed random linear network coding. this approach has increased throughput, reduced number of transmissions and increased robustness to link failures over ordinary forwarding. In comparing the similarity in performance achieved by network coding and optimum routing solutions, network coding has the advantage of low complexity distributed solution.

Clustering is defined as the grouping of similar items in a set, and is an important process within the field of data mining. As the amount of data for various applications continues to increase, in terms of its size and dimensionality, it is necessary to have efficient clustering methods. A popular clustering algorithm is K-Means, which adopts a greedy approach to produce a set of K-clusters with associated centres of mass, and uses a squared error distortion measure to determine convergence. Methods for improving the efficiency of K-Means have been largely explored in two main directions. the amount of computation can be significantly reduced by adopting a more efficient data structure, notably a multi-dimensional binary search tree (KD-Tree) to store either centroids or data points. A second direction is parallel processing, where data and computation loads are distributed over many processing nodes. However, little work has been done to provide a parallel formulation of the efficient sequential techniques based on KD-Trees. Such approaches are expected to have an irregular distribution of computation load and can suffer from load imbalance. this issue has so far limited the adoption of these efficient K-Means techniques in parallel computational environments. In this work, we provide a parallel formulation for the KD-Tree based K-Means algorithm and address its load balancing issues.

the current state for security research in sensor networks presents many approaches for all possible security services. Upon network deployment protocols must be selected and made to work together so that they meet application requirements like security level, dynamics or power consumption. this is a non-trivial process and requires an expert in both security and networks, and can definitely not be performed by a user. this paper identifies a set of application-space parameters which controls security requirements. A method of selecting security protocols based on those parameters is presented; it allows non-expert users to configure the security without any knowledge of networks, protocols or security. It also allows the automation of the security configuration process.

Embedded wireless networks have largely focused on open loop sensing and monitoring. To address actuation in closed loop wireless control systems there is a strong need to re-think the communication architectures and protocols for reliability, coordination and control. As the links, nodes and topology of wireless systems are inherently unreliable, such time-critical and safety-critical applications require programming abstractions where the tasks are assigned to the sensors, actuators and controllers as a single component rather than statically mapping a set of tasks to a specific physical node at design time. To this end, we introduce the embedded virtual machine (EVM), a powerful and flexible programming abstraction where virtual components and their properties are maintained across node boundaries. In the context of process and discrete control, an EVM is the distributed runtime system that dynamically selects primary-backup sets of controllers to guarantee QoS given spatial and temporal constraints of the underlying wireless network. the EVM architecture defines explicit mechanisms for control, data and fault communication within the virtual component. EVM-based algorithms introduce new capabilities such as predictable outcomes and provably minimal graceful degradation during sensor/actuator failure, adaptation to mode changes and runtime optimization of resource consumption. through the design of a natural gas process plant hardware-in-loop simulation we aim to demonstrate the preliminary capabilities of EVM-based wireless networks.

Data fusion or information collection is one of the fundamental functions in the future cyber-physical systems. But, privacy concerns must be addressed and security must be assured in such systems. It is very challenging to achieve the synergy of privacy and integrity, because privacy preserving schemes try to hide or interfere with data, while integrity protection usually needs to enable peer monitoring or public access of the data. therefore, privacy and integrity can be the conflicting requirements, one may barricade the implementation of the *** this paper, we address both privacy of individual sensory data and integrity of aggregation result simultaneously by proposing a protocol called iCPDA, which piggybacks on a cluster-based privacy-preserving data aggregation protocol(CPDA). We implement the add-on feature to protect integrity of aggregation result. To show the efficacy and efficiency of the proposed scheme, we present simulation results. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is among the first protocols to preserve privacy and integrity in data aggregation.

Energy efficiency is a key problem of wireless sensor networks. though we already have many self-organization protocols which can build energy-saving structures, the energy cost of maintenance also must be concerned. We found that organized network structure has great impact on the energy cost in the maintenance stage and the overall energy efficiency. In this paper, we classify the self-organization proposals according to the organized structures and demonstrate how the different structures will affect the energy cost used to maintain the structures when both initialization and maintenance stages are counted. Finally we concluded that a non-loop-free structure is easier to maintain and then has better energy efficiency than global tree structure.
