Recent years have seen active development of context-aware applications and systemsthat helps the development. However, it suffers from increasing fears for leakages of users' activity information to other users unconsciously, since the owner of the activity information included in the sensor data is not treated in context-aware systems. We propose the Area-Based Activity Information Preservation (ABAIP) system that enables users to control the level of data resolution of their activity information to allow applications to use. Degrading sensor data resolution causes coarse grained context recognition. the system prevents unconscious and unnecessary activity information leakage amongst the ABAIP system users, while providing ubiquitous sensor environment for various kinds of ubiquitous software.

An adaptive filter is developed for use in multi-sensor surveillance systems for target tracking. the hierarchical architecture consists of local processors and global processor for distributed fusion. A linear Kalman filter is employed in each local processor to track the same target which is described in the reference Cartesian coordinate system withthe radar measuring range, bearing and elevation angle in the spherical coordinate system. the global processor utilizes Information Matrix Filter (IMF) with two different process noise levels to combine local processor outputs. A decision logic approach incorporates with dual-band IMF to develop switching capability as adaptive manner to respond the target dynamics. the high-level band IMF is selected for maneuver period and the proper low-level band IMF is chosen for quiescent period. the resulting filter has better tracking performance than each individual IMF. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed algorithm.

Data gathering in a timely and reliable fashion has been a key concern in wireless sensor networks particularly related to military applications. the introduction of real time communication has created additional challenges in this area with different communication constraints. Since sensor networks represent a new generation of time-critical applications, it is often necessary for communication to meet real time constraints. However, research dealing with providing QoS guarantees for real time traffic in sensor networks is still immature. To provide guaranteed QoS in WSN this paper presents a novel analytical model based on limited service polling discipline. the proposed model implements two queues in a sensor node which are being served according to round robin service. the model is based on M/D/1 queueing system (a special class of M/G/1 queueing systems), which takes into account two different classes of traffic in a sensor node. the exact queueing delay in a sensor node for corresponding classes is calculated. Further, the analytical results are validated through an extensive simulation study.

Several micro-solar powered designs have been developed to address this important problem but little analysis is available on key design trade-offs. We develop a taxonomy of the micro-solar design space identifying key components, design choices, Interactions, challenges, and trade-offs. Based on this taxonomy, we provide an empirical and mathematical analysis of two prominent designs of micro-solar power systems (Heliomote and Trio), and interpret the results to propose design guidelines for micro-solar power systems.

An approach to estimate environmental conditions (ECs), temperature, relative humidity and air flow in a few desired sensor nodes in a wireless sensor network, slept for reducing battery-consumption or inactive due to either empty batteries or out-of-range is presented. A nonlinear, multivariable model containing the interconnections is extracted and using data of surrounding active sensor nodes is broken to the linear models. Unknown parameters of the model are verified by a multivariable identification method. the proposed approach is independent of the type of ventilation system. It can be used in different applications such as designing model base ECs controllers as well as an estimator in fault diagnosis methods.
