Access control to sensitive resources in pervasive computing needs to take uncertainty into account. Previous research has developed uncertainty-aware access-control models for environments that are managed by a centralized administrator We demonstrate that environments managed in a distributed way require a more powerful model. Furthermore, we point out additional challenges that need to be considered when deploying uncertainty-aware access control, namely, identifying and authenticating both people and their intended actions, associating uncertainty with time, providing monotonicity, and defending against Sybil attacks. We present an access-control model that addresses these challenges and discuss a sample implementation.

Energy efficiency is an important factor in the design of wireless sensor networks. the sensor nodes around the sink node in the network forward the data received from all other nodes to the sink, and thus deplete their energy very quickly. In this paper we propose a scheme which adopts a mobile sink for target tracking applications to maximize the network lifetime. Using the sensed information the sink moves toward the target for reducing the communication cost. Computer simulation shows that the proposed scheme can significantly prolong the network lifetime compared to the earlier schemes where the sink node is fixed or randomly moved.

Suitable communication protocols and middleware solutions are necessary tojacilitate the development of sensor network applications. Additionally, the vast number of nodes in sensor networks necessitates a new programming model for application developers. Commonly used programming abstractionsforce the programmer to express the global behaviour of a network in terms of local actions taken at individual nodes. We argue that global programming abstractions are needed to express global behaviour of a network. We present RuleCaster, a novel state-based programming framework for sensor network applications. RuleCaster provides a high-level language for application definition, a compiler that splits the high-level specification into individual tasks and assigns them to the nodes, and a service-based middleware that provides the interface for collaborative execution of these tasks.

Withthe advance of sensing technologies and its applications, sophisticated (i.e., mobile, wireless) sensor networks are gaining increasing interest. Although such networks allow to implement interesting tracking functionalities, their performance is severely affected by energy limitations. this paper introduces an activity scheduling protocol that extends the network lifetime while the area coverage is kept unchanged A cost-benefit analysis is conducted in order to assess the cost of the additional number of sensors that should be deployed to implement our protocol. Simulation results show that the proposed approach outperforms the existing scheduling techniques.
