In recent times, Automation of buildings has caught the attentions of everyone. the foregoing is being reinforced when it is geared towards building energy management in relation to energy efficiency. By incorporating ubiquitous Internet of things (IoT) algorithms, the building is considered a smart one. It comprises sensors, controllers, actuators and remote monitoring devices. A sensor is used to sense a physical condition and convert it into an electrical signal. the paper systematically itemizes sensors commonly used in building automation systems in relation to their principles of operations, applications in automation of buildings and technical details for the purpose of design of Energy saving building automatic control systems (ESBACS). It is believed that the information provided will serve as spring boards for effective research in design of building automation systems.

the software industry's evolution towards distributed development models has led organizations to adopt agile methodologies for managing software projects. However, scaling these practices presents significant challenges in distributed teams. this research investigates the critical factors affecting the adoption of agile scaling practices in distributed software development (DSD) teams by addressing critical gaps in understanding the factors affecting successful agile scaling adoption. through a comprehensive quantitative analysis of responses from IT professionals and Partial Least Squares Structured Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) modeling, the study identifies five key factors that positively influence agile scaling adoption: management support, team autonomy, communication and collaboration, knowledge and expertise in agile practices, and agile mindset. As a result, all five identified factors showed significant positive relationships with Agile scaling adoption in distributed software development teams. Also, results indicate that organization size significantly moderates only the relationship between management support and adoption, with stronger effects in small/medium organizations. Project complexity moderates specifically the relationship between agile mindset and adoption, while industry competition showed no significant moderating effects. the findings provide empirical evidence and practical insights for organizations implementing agile scaling practices in distributed environments. © 2025 ieee.

Just like talent, capital and land, data is becoming one of the market-oriented elements and driving profound intelligent changes in traditional industries. Data governance is a key process to improve the availability, integrity, and security of data. For large group enterprises like telecom operators, it is not simple to manage the massive data scattered in different departments, different facilities, different regions, and different systems. this paper creatively proposes a distributed data fabric architecture based on metadate knowledge graph to solve this problem. the functional architecture consists of six layers, including acquisition storage layer, data management layer, knowledge graph layer, data directory layer, model application layer, user request layer, etc. A feasible framework is designed to guide how to implement this architecture, and several key enabling technologies have been studied. Instead of storing the full amount of data in a centralized data lake, we choose to centralize the metadata into the data warehouse. this can avoid the problems of data privacy disclosure, long data turnover time, wrong data entry into the lake and high operation and maintenance cost. Specifically, the enhanced data knowledge directory derived from the lower-level global metadata knowledge map is constructed, including static data resource directory, static business resource directory, and dynamic enhanced knowledge directory automatically generated based on user input. the proposed architecture has been used in the practical application in China Telecom Group and alleviates the difficulty of massive data query to a certain extent. © 2022 ieee.

Geohazards due to the increase of pore water pressure are adverse geologic conditions capable of causing widespread damage or loss of property and life. To predict the potential consequences of rising water pressure in the subterranean, modest and more accurate methods are necessary. Recent advances in optical fibre sensors enable spatial continuity along with fibre, which is incapable of discrete sensing systems. In this study, the ability of a distributed optical fibre sensor embedded into three silicone rubber membranes in series has been tested for pore water pressure measuring. A backscattered reflectometer has been used to measure the strain variations along the optical fibre. Subsequently, the strain variations along the membranes have been analyzed against the water pressure. It was revealed that the measured strain readings are proportional to the applied hydrostatic pressure. Accordingly, real-time measurements can be obtained frequently from a remote location as the optical fibres can transmit the measured data for long distances. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

the advent of Internet of things (IoT) has bring a new era in communication technology by expanding the current inter-networking services and enabling the machine-to-machine communication. IoT massive deployments will create the problem of optimal power allocation. the objective of the optimization problem is to obtain a feasible solution that minimizes the total power consumption of the WSN, when the error probability at the fusion center meets certain criteria. this work studies the optimization of a wireless sensor network (WNS) at higher dimensions by focusing to the power allocation of decentralized detection. More specifically, we apply and compare four algorithms designed to tackle Large scale global optimization (LSGO) problems. these are the memetic linear population size reduction and semi-parameter adaptation (MLSHADE-SPA), the contribution-based cooperative coevolution recursive differential grouping (CBCC-RDG3), the differential grouping with spectral clustering-differential evolution cooperative coevolution (DGSC-DECC), and the enhanced adaptive differential evolution (EADE). To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first time that LSGO algorithms are applied to the optimal power allocation problem in IoT networks. We evaluate the algorithms performance in several different cases by applying them in cases with 300, 600 and 800 dimensions.

With the proliferation of Internet of things, a plethora of battery-powered sensor nodes are being deployed in outdoor spaces. With these soaring numbers, it has become an impractical task to replace their batteries in a year or so in operation. therefore, it is essential to design sensor nodes that can run without battery replacement for a long time. Hence, being able to harvest power from the surrounding provides a sustainable solution. Especially, tropical countries receive an abundance of solar power throughout the year, which makes it a highly viable candidate to power the sensor nodes. therefore, this paper presents a sensor node design that has specifically taken the solar power harvesting in tropical climates into consideration. the presented sensor node uses LoRaWAN technology for communication and the experimental work proves that a day's solar energy harvest is enough to run the node for a several days when the battery capacity is carefully selected. Further, the study emphasizes the effects of cloudy/rainy days on the energy harvesting. © 2025 ieee.

With the continuous expansion of photovoltaic grid-connected capacity, precise prediction of photovoltaic power has become essential for ensuring the secure and stable operation of new energy power systems. this paper presents a distributed photovoltaic short-term power forecasting method, utilizing Autoformer and POPtree multi-point correction to overcome challenges associated with insufficient or inaccurate weather forecast data, thus enabling accurate predictions. the methodology begins with the MIC algorithm, which calculates feature correlation coefficients, helping to identify highly correlated features that are then fed into the Autoformer model for prediction, yielding preliminary long sequence prediction results. Next, a point-by-point prediction approach based on the tree model trains multiple lightGBM models, producing multi-point power predictions. Finally, by setting a weighted threshold $\alpha$ , the corresponding prediction results from different models are combined using a hybrid weighting method to derive the ultimate photovoltaic short-term power prediction outcomes. through a case analysis of photovoltaic output data in a specific station area, the results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves high-quality short-term photovoltaic output predictions even without relying on weather forecasting data. this method proves effective in meeting the demands of accurate photovoltaic power forecasting in practical scenarios.

this paper investigates a bipolar structure voltage sensor based on the principle of capacitive coupling. the non-contact voltage sensor, based on electric field coupling, offers advantages such as simple structure, excellent insulation performance, and fast response. A bipolar differential electrode structure was designed for the sensor, and by reducing the internal resistance of the voltage follower circuit, the measurement stability and accuracy were improved. Simulation and experimental results indicate that the sensor can effectively detect electric field variations in a uniformly distributed field and exhibits good linear response in both low-frequency and power-frequency signal measurements, showing great potential for future applications.

the prevalence of food insecurity has been a catalyst for the integration of Information Technology (IT) into existing agricultural practices, resulting in the concept of precision agriculture. Current research is primarily conducted in agricultural scenarios with strong IT infrastructure such as controlled greenhouse farming, making it unfeasible to replicate these systems for open-field farming in rural areas due to limited electrical and IT infrastructure. We propose a Wireless sensor-Actuator Network (WSAN) system architecture with smart Internet of things (IoT) base stations based on the Fog computing paradigm. the system is designed for deployment based on the conditions of rural farms in Southeast Asia. the proposed system design has potential contributions toward remote monitoring of isolated farming locations with minimal existing IT infrastructure. © 2021 ieee.
