In this paper, we present a distributed machine learning based intrusion detection system in Internet of things (IoT) utilizing Blockchain technology. In particular, spectral partitioning is proposed to divide the IoT network into autonomous systems (AS) enabling traffic monitoring for intrusion detection (ID) to be performed by the selected AS border area nodes in a distributed manner. the ID system is based on machine learning, where a support-vector machine algorithm is trained using prominent IoT data sets and detection of the attackers is provided. Furthermore, the integrity of the attackers' list is offered by utilizing Blockchain technology, which enables a distributed sharing of the attackers' information among the AS border area nodes of the Blockchain network. Simulations are performed to evaluate different aspects of the proposed IoT system and demonstrate the potential of integrating machine learning based ID to a distributed spectral partitioned Blockchain network.

Energy security and access to sufficient power supply is an important issue in the society and the world at large, tremendous growth have been experienced in the demand for energy, therefore, there is need to keep exploring alternative means of generation and also ensuring that the available energy is properly managed. renewable and non-harmful to the environment is an added benefit and this has led to research in the area of distributed generation. Grid outages, which can be caused by a lack of adequate investment in the power supply by the government, environmental conditions like storms, hurricanes amongst others have led to increased interest in distributed generation like the use of microgrids. this project proposes a solution that utilizes a microgrid that is connected to the grid but can also be isolated from the grid in the advent of grid faults which utilizes solar energy, wind energy, and biomass (from household waste) to generate power to a small-scale residential system with the excess power stored in a battery energy storage system. the proposed system utilizes a multi-agent energy management system for energy scheduling which enables the various agents; control agent, distribution energy resources agent, and the energy storage system agent to communicate with one another for the smooth operation of the system using the Java Application Development Environment (JADE), the system is simulated through the use of MATLAB/Simulink and the JADE framework is integrated to the simulation using MAC-SimJX co-simulator. the efficiency of the microgrid to schedule the renewable energy resources in the advent of a grid outage through the use of the multiagent energy management system is analyzed. the simulation results verify and show the efficiency of the proposed system using the interaction between the Simulink and JADE simulation, showing that the system enables the microgrid to work autonomously to ensure constant energy supply to the residential area in which

Effective maritime environment monitoring with underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) depends on having optimal network coverage and connectivity through suitable node deployment within a designated detecting region. Many of the node deployment systems that are currently recommended for UWSNs work under the assumption the sensor nodes are stationary and that their placement remains unchanged after deployment. the placed static sensor node moves from its initial positions to new ones due to ocean currents and interactions with underwater current, leaving most of the targets unexplored and disrupting network connectivity. In order to find a solution, we suggest using the JAYA algorithm to deploy nodes in UWSNs at the optimal location for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). Coverage quality, connected cost, and network lifetime are the three factors that make up the innovative fitness function of the proposed method, which is based on the JAYA metaheuristic algorithm and uses a single autonomous underwater vehicle. Additionally, a novel fitness function is developed for both the quantity and position of the sensors by applying an effective detection probability and Euclidean distance in the suggested method. We explain in detail the performance estimation of the proposed algorithm and compare it with the current algorithms concerning connection cost, quality of coverage, convergence rate, and network lifetime. As seen by the simulation results, the suggested methodology improves the network’s underwater coverage.

A 5th-order coupled microring electro-optical modulator with PIN structures is proposed and experimentally demonstrated on SOI integrated photonics platform. Ultra-high dynamic extinction ratio (ER) up to 60 dB is achieved benefiting from the high-order optical band-pass filter design. the device size on chip is only 400x220 mu m(2) including electrodes and the driving voltage is 2.1 V corresponding to 0.23 W power consumption. Such integrated modulators would be promising in building compact and low-power distributed optical fiber sensing systems using low-background-noise optical pulses.

Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) has been acknowledged as an essential task in a functional cloud environment. Derived from the Network Virtualization (NV) concept, the VNE process involves assigning virtual resources from a given Virtual Network (VN) into the fittest physical resources from a substrate network. the integration of software-defined networking (SDN) technologies in the cloud are becoming a driven practise due to its centralized design that allows advanced resource management via several cloud policies. In this paper, we propose a systematic VNE policy based on a two-staged Load Balancing (LB) plan. Our approach covers firstly the Virtual Network Requests (VNRs) assignment onto multiple Data Center Networks (DCNs). then, the servers in each DCN are classified in which they host the most compatible virtual resources. the effectiveness of our approach is finally validated by a set of numerical experiments. © 2021 ieee.

In the era of mobile Internet and cloud computing, the rise of big data has profoundly impacted diverse industries and sectors, drawing significant scholarly attention. the objective of this paper is to delineate an overview of the international research landscape of big data, identifying key research hotspots and emerging trends. To gain a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in the field of big data, we employed a range of analytical techniques, including co-word analysis, clustering analysis, social network analysis, and dynamic strategy coordinate mapping. Our review encompassed articles published between 2017 and 2019, spanning a three-year period. the data were sourced from the SCI, SSCI, SPCI, and CPCI-SSH databases. the literature was subjected to a sysytematic analysis using Bibexcel, SPSS, and Gephi software, with the objective of uncovering distinct patterns and trends. the findings reveal 11 thematic clusters within international big data research. these are text mining, data fusion, distributed computing, Industry 4.0, data privacy, business intelligence, precision medicine, bioinformatics, and data mining techniques such as classification and clustering. It is noteworthy that Industry 4.0, data privacy, and text mining emerged as significant research hotspots. Furthermore, the fields of artificial intelligence, natural language processing, smart grids, energy big data, and wireless sensor networks are regarded as emerging areas of interest. It is anticipated that the convergence of bioinformatics and other pivotal areas of big data research, will serve as the impetus for future research hotspots, necessitating sustained scholarly investigation and discourse.

Routing methods in underwater wireless sensor networks are subject to greater latency, more energy usage, little bandwidth, and insufficient efficiency when contrasted to terrestrial wireless sensor networks. Nowadays, it is used to discover life inside the ocean, and collect information about aquatic life and gather data for geographic variation. the sensor nodes operate within acoustic links to interact with one other, they vary from other networks. the efficiency of the information transfer to the destination is a critical factor because it consumes a lot of energy while transferring data. To overcome the aforementioned issues, an energy-efficient routing system is required, which increases the nodes or network lifespan. In this work, we analyze the different energy-efficient and non-energy-efficient UWSNs that are already available and classify them according to performance and efficiencies. © 2021 ieee.

Although micro-mobility has become a popular and indispensable mode of transportation in recent years, it has also introduced a large number of traffic accidents. Timely tracking and predicting the maneuvers hold the potential to prevent accidents through prompt warnings and interventions. However, the open and simple structure of micro-mobility makes it hard to install sophisticated infrastructures for maneuver prediction. In this paper, we argue that the micro-mobility body dynamics provide sufficient information for maneuver prediction. Our preliminary study suggests that micro-mobility body dynamic patterns appear beforehand and exhibit the correlation with steering maneuvers. We accordingly present RideGuard, which leverages a built-in Inertial Measurement Unit on smartphones to achieve the prediction of steering maneuvers. through a dual-stream CNN deep learning architecture, RideGuard effectively captures complex patterns and feature relationships from the time and frequency domain. Our extensive real-traffic experiments involving 20 participants demonstrate the superiority of RideGuard: employing a 3s detection window, RideGuard attains a minimum of 94% precision in maneuver prediction with a 5s prediction time gap. the low-cost and rapid response feature of RideGuard enables feasible deployment and promotes safer riding practices. Additionally, we open-source our well-labeled dataset to facilitate further research.

Application of Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) in monitoring applications has gained importance nowadays due to their low cost and reliable communication features. Excess energy consumption and signal attenuation in wide area monitoring are two maj or issues that occurs during data transmission. In this work, a model area of dimension 100x100m2has been considered where the sensor nodes are distributed throughout for wide area data monitoring. Two design schemes based on peer to peer topology and mesh topology respectively have been considered to study the energy and signal related performance and cost benefits related to real time continuous wide area monitoring. In the first design scheme, the sensors uses high power module based long distance data transmission and communicates directly to the base station. In the second scheme, intermediate nodes are placed and low power modules are used to transmit data in multi-hop multi-path fashion. the results indicate that for wide area monitoring, subj ected to power decay due to presence of thick walls and metallic structure, the second scheme reduces the data transmission energy and reaps economic benefits when used over a long period of time. © 2021 ieee.

More recently, it has become possible to run deep learning algorithms on edge devices such as microcontrollers due to continuous improvements in neural network optimization algorithms such as quantization and neural architecture search. Nonetheless, most of the embedded hardware available today still falls short of the requirements of running deep neural networks. As a result, specialized processors have emerged to improve the inference efficiency of deep learning algorithms. However, most are not for edge applications that require efficient and low-cost hardware. therefore, we design and prototype a low-cost configurable sparse Neural Processing Unit (NPU). the NPU has a built-in buffer and a reshapable mixed-precision multiply-accumulator (MAC) array. the computing and memory resources of the NPU are parameterized, and different NPUs can be derived. Besides, users can also conFigure the NPU at runtime to fully utilize the resources. In our experiments, the 200MHz NPU with only 32 MACs is more than 32 times faster than the 400MHzSTM32H7 when inferring MobileNet-Vl. Besides, the yielded NPUs can achieve roofline or even beyond roofline performance. the buffer and reshapeable MAC array push the NPU’s attainable performance to the roofline, while the feature of supporting sparsity allows the NPU to obtain performance beyond the roofline.
