this paper investigates the detection of cyber attacks in a kind of critical infrastructure, the water treatment processes. For this purpose, the real data from the secure water treatment testbed (SWaT) in the iTrust Centre for Research in Cyber Security at the Singapore University of Technology and Design have been used in the investigation. More than 30 different attacks happen on the communication network between the programmable logic controller (PLC) and the sensors/actuators. After understanding the basic working mechanism of the SWaT process, an attack detection system is developed systematically, which consists of a limit value check and safety rule unit, a model-based monitoring unit and a data-driven monitoring unit. To cope with the nonstationary behavior of some water chemical properties such as pH and oxidation reduction potential, the recursive principal component analysis (RPCA) is applied in the data-driven part. It is shown how to divide the SWaT process suitably to integrate the model-based and data-driven monitoring for the SWaT process. the comparison shows that the proposed attack detection system outperforms other existing attack detection systems for the SWaT *** (c) 2022 the Authors. this is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(https://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/)

the current energy situation and the possibility of exhausting fossil fuels in a relatively near period, have led to investing efforts in the development of techniques that use renewable energy sources for power generation. A configuration that allows renewable energy sources to be integrated into the overall power system, advocates dividing the grid into distributed systems incorporating small-scale generation and storage. Microgrids are a well-known type of these systems. control systems help maintain the reliability of the energy supply while minimizing costs. In addition, it must be taken into account that faults can occur in the processes that make up the microgrid. In some cases, the control system can mask these faults, even allowing the fault to reach an irreparable level. In this context, fault-tolerant control is a tool that enables control objectives to be maintained even in the presence of faults. If necessary, the control objectives are adapted to the fault. Furthermore, the fault tolerant control system needs to be able to detect faults, quantify their intensity and act accordingly. In this paper, the reconfigurable control design problem is studied for a class of continuous-time Markov jump piecewise-affine (PWA) systems with sensor and actuator faults. A reconfiguration block is designed to recover mean-square input-to-state stability (ISS) of the faulty closed-loop system under virtual sensor and virtual actuator. then, a novel algorithm for computing all the allowable switching paths (ASPs) is developed to overcome the issues of redundant empty paths and mismatch regions, and a S-procedure with the ellipsoidal outer approximation estimation is employed to cope with the affine term. Furthermore, a nonlinear approximation is introduced using the PWA technique to approximate the faulty Markov jump nonlinear systems. this paper deals with the design of efficient algorithms for solving analysis problems formulated in the integral quadratic constraint (IQC) framework. the oracle for the discrete-time IQC problem is coupled with the analytic center cutting plane method (ACCPM), and the implementation of the ACCPM is customized to leverage promising features of the oracle such as the possibility of generating strictly separating hyperplanes between the candidate solution and feasible set and the possibility of generating more than one separating hyperplane. Such customizations may be needed if the ACCPM is to be used as part of recursive IQC synthesis algorithms for practical problems. Numerical examples are generated to compare various versions of the ACCPM, namely, with single center cuts, single deep cuts, and two center cuts. Process monitoring in microbial cultures became feasible thanks to the development of accurate measurement devices, including in-situ probes to monitor biomass growth, oxygen, carbon dioxide and sugar consumption. In comparison, estimating the metabolic fluxes of the cell factories still rely on analysis based on an under-determined set of equations, and requires an expensive and time consuming methods of verification. this problem intensifies in the presence of complex substrates, in which different sugars are utilized in parallel by the cell factories. In the present study, a growth experiment of Corynebacterium glutamicum in spent sulfite liquor was studied. the bioprocess was monitored during batch and fed-batch phases, and a parameter estimation routine was conducted to define a process model and the corresponding uptake rates. A tracking optimization algorithm minimized the error between the measured process fluxes and the equivalent fluxes of the elementary flux modes. the results indicate that the optimization technique obtained a set of elementary modes that are closer to reality than the computed from the metabolic analysis. Taken together, we show that an online estimation of metabolic flux distribution of C. glutamicum based on a set of process measurement signals was possible with an optimization function that links the process and metabolic model. the procedure can be complementary to the sophisticated and expensive C-13 NMR experimental analytical technique. Model-Free control (MFC) approach is a novel technique to handle nonlinearities and uncertainties in control systems in order to provide enhanced performance level. the design of MFC is based on an ultra-local model, which is an approximation of the dynamics of the controlled system for a short period of time. this structure also involves a model-based robust control, which guarantees the accurate tracking performance of the closed-loop system. In this paper, a novel technique is proposed for designing the robust control for taking into account the varying characteristics of the ultra-local model. A novel modeling method is presented, which combines the original plant of the controlled system and the ultra-local model. then, a robust control design is proposed, by which the tracking performance and the robustness of the closed-loop system can be guaranteed. the design steps and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated through a vehicle-oriented control problem using the high-fidelity simulation software, CarMaker. Design of fault-tolerant control for nonlinear systems is usually focused on maximizing some criteria defining the level of robustness with respect to potential faults without significant degradation of the system performance. therefore, strong interest is produced by compromise approaches which would generate decent control quality for the broadest possible class of potential faulty scenarios. Here, an approach is proposed with the application to magnetic brake system making use of the repetitive character of the control task. the concept of iterative learning control driven by measurement data is utilized to properly update the control signal in order to adapt to possible actuator fault states. A learning controller is adopted build on a mixture of neural networks for various operating points. thus, it is able to adapt to changing working conditions of the device. Moreover, using the procedure employing an ensemble of inverse models, actuator faults can be successfully accommodated. the paper provides the complete iterative learning procedure including the system identification, fault estimation and fault-tolerant control. the numerical example on the reference tracking problem for magnetic brake system is discussed, taking into account various faulty scenarios. Digital twins are expected to play a pivotal role in digital transformation. Although process informatics has attracted much attention, physical models are essential to realizing the digital twins. However, building a physical model of an industrial process takes much toil. We aim to facilitate the physical model building by developing an automated physical model building AI, named AutoPMoB, which performs five tasks: 1) retrieving documents about a target process from literature databases, 2) converting the format of each document to HTML format, 3) extracting information required for building a physical model from the documents, such as variables, equations, and experimental data, 4) judging the equivalence of the information extracted from different documents, and 5) reorganizing the information to output a desired physical model. this study focuses on task 4, especially judging the equivalence of variable definitions, i.e., whether two noun phrases represent the same variable. We created a large-scale corpus consisting of papers on chemical engineering, and built ProcessBERT, which is a domain-specific language model pre-trained on the corpus. We proposed a method for judging the equivalence of variable definitions based on ProcessBERT. When judging the equivalence, our proposed method first uses ProcessBERT to obtain the embeddings of the variable definitions. then, the method calculates the cosine similarity between the embeddings. the method judges that the two definitions are equivalent when the similarity is larger than a threshold. Our proposed method judged the equivalence with higher accuracy than the method based on original BERT and SciBERT. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

this paper proposes to use hybrid model predictive control (HMPC) for energy management in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) using an efficient formulation. HEV has two sources of energy - electric motor and internal combustion engine (ICE) - allowing it an additional degree of freedom to optimize the ratio between the use of two energy sources. HEV energy management is crucial to exploit its potential to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. However, it is challenging to achieve the optimal solution along with the fast dynamics of HEVs. In this paper, instead of using a nonlinear, computationally expensive dynamic model of HEV, a piecewise afne (PWA) model is used to depict its behavior, implemented with multiple linear regression. the validation of the developed model is taken with standard drive cycles. Based on the PWA model, an optimal control problem of HMPC was formulated as mixed integer linear programming (MILP). Conventionally, mixed logical dynamical (MLD) system has been used in the process control field, including early studies of HEV control. this paper applies Big-M formulation which is efficient in its problem size and tight inequality relation for integer variables. the performance of the HMPC controller was examined in a simulated environment based on MATLAB/Simulink HEVP2 application. As a result, HMPC shows superior control performance than the equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS). Model based Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) in aerospace have received considerable attention and numerous algorithms are flying on-board commercial aircraft. Most of these algorithms are based on local models of aircraft components or rigid body aircraft models. On the other hand the ever more pressing requirement of performance and fuel efficiency improvement makes aircraft structures more lightweight and flexible. Actuator fault detection especially ailerons in the wing has to account for these flexible effects to provide the required performance. Within the article we show the trend how decreasing detection time necessitates the use of flexible dynamics based FDI, and show how detection and isolation performance are changing. Moreover, the article also highlights the need of robust filter synthesis methods, since a nominal H-infinity synthesis has significantly lower performance in worst-case situation than a robust mu synthesis based filter. the methods are demonstrated on a flexible aircraft demonstrator platform simulation model from the FLiPASED *** (c) 2022 the Authors. this is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(https://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/)
