this paper presents a new method of fault detection based on residual signal generation. Most of the existing diagnostic methods that use the residual to detect a failure are often based on the knowledge of the system model. the developed method does not require a precise knowledge or deep information about the system model. It is based on the reconstruction of the system output via an ultra-local model and a model-free controller. the reconstructed/estimated output is used to build the residual signal which is the fault indicator. Several simulation tests have been performed to evaluate the potential of the proposed approach for fault diagnosis. A fault on an actuator of the system is simulated in linear, non-linear and multi-input non-linear case studies. the simulation results reveal that the fault is successfully detected for all these systems under a noisy environment. the article discusses aspects of the use of physician decision support systems in the practice of medical organizations. It is emphasized that public health emergency management involves a wide range of activities - from direct response in the field of emergency situations to decisionmaking at the level of medical organizations. the possibility of combining into a common network of distributed semantic repositories created by various organizations (health care authorities, medical organizations, research centers, etc.) on the basis of common open standards is noted. the possibility of using "ontology engineering" methods to develop information retrieval and patient registration systems, as well as the analysis of biomedical information, is being considered. It is noted that the use and constant updating of modern clinical knowledge is based primarily on clinical guidelines. the experience of using the stroke registry is presented and the results of clinical recommendations in the field of neurology tested in practical healthcare are taken into account.

Correct torquing of bone screws is critical for positive patient outcomes in orthopaedic surgery. Under- or over-tightening screws can lead to thread stripping or screw loosening, leading to implant/fixation failure and potential tissue damage or disability. It has been proposed that an automated torque-limiting smart-screwdriver may be able to use model-based methods to determine the properties of bone as screws are inserted, and then use these to determine the optimal tightening torque and provide a torque-indication or -limitation to enforce this limit. Previous work focused on identifying the material properties from sensor data, but this paper will address the unanswered question of torque-limit prediction. Here we have developed a simple model of screw thread stripping. this model is based on the assumption that overtightening the screw will shear a cylindrical section of the underlying material. this simple assumption is augmented with a stress concentration factor dependant on the screw geometry. this model was tested against experimental stripping-torque data. We found that without the stress-concentration factor the model produced predicted torques with a strong linear relationship to the experimental values (R-2 = 0.98), however the magnitude of the predictions was 2-3 times too high. Including the stress concentration factor brought these predictions into the range of the experimental values, but the strong linear relationship from before was disrupted (R-2 = 0.80). Overall, this approach is promising for optimal torque prediction, but needs more thorough testing with a range of materials and screws, and has room for improvement with the stress-concentration factor. the objective of this work consists of studying the feasibility to impose descending stair negotiation in the UGent Knee Rig (UGKR). the force and position reference signals for the control strategy are derived from literature. A mathematical coordinate transformation is developed to make the stair descent possible within the limitations of the UGKR. Kinematic measurements of the six degrees of freedom in the knee joint allow to assess knee instability. therefore, a kinematic measurement method based on CT-images is used to measure the relative position of the bones during the stair descent. First, the study is performed on a mechanical knee hinge to evaluate the performance of the position and force control. Second, a saw-bone study is performed to assess the kinematic measurement. the results show the feasibility of the developed method to impose stair descent motions in future cadaver studies. Most surgical interventions involve sedating the patient with a cocktail of substances having anesthetic effects. the procedure is usually performed by a medical doctor that continuously monitors and readjusts drug dosage with respect to the patient's response. Current advances in automatic control and biomedical engineering offer the possibility to reassign the anesthetist's task to real-time, highly-performant monitoring and control algorithms, with the purpose of providing a risk-free anesthetic experience. the present study combines the well-known benefits of fractional calculus in biomedical applications with the intricate tasks revolving around automatic anesthesia. the proposed fractional order control algorithms are developed based on an open-source patient simulator that combines hemodynamics and anesthesia in a single customizable framework. Testing and validation of the proposed strategy is successfully performed on a group of 24 different patients in the presence of surgical stimulus. the ultimate result is that the hemodynamic characteristics are kept within accepted ranges, while a certain level of anesthesia is achieved. Relocating manufacturing plants is a phenomenon nowadays due to increasing changes in markets, materials, and labour cost. Under business pressure, while transferring the manufacturing systems, some technical compromises might be taken to start the production as soon as possible. A technical shortcut can provide a short-term benefit but may introduce a long-term negative impact. this work reports an industrial use case at a world-leading electronics manufacturer during its plant relocations. the study employs the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) to visualize the use case. there, an enlargement of BPMN, namely BPMN+TD, is achieved to assist in modelling TD artifacts. Percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) is a decompression surgery on patients with lumbar disc herniation and spinal canal stenosis in a minimally invasive environment, which greatly shorten the rehabilitation cycle of patients. However, the puncture of traditional PTED is performed under non-direct vision, which relies on the surgeon's clinical experience heavily and can easily cause collateral damage. In this paper, we propose a robotic positioning method in PTED based on X-ray image and DLT algorithm. the end-effector with three rings (EETR) for PTED positioning has been specially designed. During the operation, the 3D-2D transformation matrix is calculated by direct linear transform (DLT) algorithm. Finally, the motion parameters are calculated to control the robot. Based on our method, only one X-ray image is needed to complete the positioning, which also works well in a large range of deflection angle between EETR and target puncture channel. thus, it greatly simplifies the surgical process and reduces the radiation exposure time. By conducting a series of comparative experiments on the positioning of model bones, the translation error is less than *** and rotation error is less than 0.8°, when the deflection angle is less than 30°. And the translation error is 1.61mm and rotation error is 1.98°, when the angle reached 60°. It meets the requirements for PTED positioning, and has improved the positioning accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Timely and accurate detection of incipient faults is critical to guarantee the normal operation of industrial processes. Nowadays, complex systems are usually equipped with a large number of sensors, which may be vulnerable to faults due to harsh environments. Statistical process monitoring is commonly used for fault detection purpose. Nevertheless, traditional fault detection methods are not sensitive enough to incipient faults, leading to the occurrence of many missed alarms. In this paper, the incipient fault detection task is achieved by monitoring the changes of sample singular values within a sliding window. Two incipient sensor fault types are considered, i.e. the sensor constant bias fault and sensor precision degradation fault. In addition, the rationale behind this strategy is also theoretically analyzed. the Conventional AC drives are replaced by the Permanent Magnet motor drives in various applications due to its brushless, efficiency and minimal weight. In industiial applications, Proportional-Integral (P1) controllers are largely employed in PMSM drives and it’s a very simple controller that results in adequate performance. appropriate controller modelling is required for the PMS M for regulating the speed so that it becomes more suitable for numerous industrial applications where high precision and high performance is required. this paper oroooses a novel control method to improve the performance of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMS M) system. A simulation of the entire system is built in MATLAB to control the speed of the machines. the hybrid soft computing controllers are orooosed by using stochastic slime mould algorithm (S MA). back prooagated soiking neural network (BPSNN) and fuzzy inference svstem based Proportional – Integral (PD controller and it improves the speed performance of PMSM drives.

the estimation of lung mechanics' parameters and the patient's residual volitional breathing effort is a prerequisite to adjust the parameters of assisted ventilation in a patient-individual manner. A real-time capable approach is investigated that estimates the resistance and compliance of a first-order lung model in conjunction with the intrapleural pressure in real-time. Latter is a measure for the patient's breathing effort. A signal generator model in the form of a Radial Basis Function (RBF) network is assumed for the intrapleural pressure. the Gaussian basis functions are periodic with the breathing cycle duration. this approach does not restrict the signal form of the patient-driven pressure curve. Recursive Least Squares (RLS) with selective forgetting is employed to consider the different dynamics of the estimated model parameters. A time-discrete version of the lung model is used for RLS. Computer simulations reveal that the approach is feasible and that selective forgetting is necessary to obtain satisfactory estimation results. Copyright (C) 2021 the Authors.
