Complex manufacturing and supply chain systems consist of concurrent labour-intensive processes and procedures with repetitive time-consuming tasks and multiple quality checks. these features may pose challenges for the efficient operation and management, while manual tasks may significantly increase human errors or near misses, having impact on the propagation of effects and parallel interactions within these systems. In order to handle the aforementioned challenges, a digital twin (DT) integrated in a multi -agent cyber-physical manufacturing system (CPMS) with the help of RFID technology is proposed. the proposed reference architecture tends to improve the trackability and traceability of complex manufacturing processes. In this research work, the interactions occurring both within a single complex manufacturing system and between multiple sites within a supply chain are considered. For the implementation of the integrated DT-CPMS, a simulation model employing the agent-based modelling technique is developed. A case study from a cryogenic supply chain in the UK is also selected to show the application and validity of the proposed digital solution. the results prove that the DT-CPMS architecture can improve system's performance in terms of human, equipment and space utilisations. In order to analyze the effect of vaccination in a population with the presence of viruses, a variation of the SIR (Susceptible-Infected-Removed) model is proposed taking into account social distancing and the effect of the vaccine. the equilibrium points of the proposed model are calculated and the stability analysis of the system is carried out. For the proposed model, disease-free equilibrium point and endemic equilibrium point are found and the conditions of existence are discussed. For the disease-free equilibrium point the bifurcation conditions are derived and simulations show that reducing the vaccination effort can lead the disease-free equilibrium to the endemic equilibrium. From the theoretical analysis, a minimum value of effort is obtained to guarantee a disease-free equilibrium point. Simulations were carried out from the value obtained from R-v to validate the theoretical results. Copyright (C) 2021 the Authors.

Digital Twins (DTs for short) are a powerful aid for creating, assessing and maintaining control strategies. this use of DTs however requires that the physical entities to control be described at different levels of detail. For example, simple I/O models are used to compute parameters of modulating controllers, more time-accurate ones may be required to set up and assess logic controls, high-accuracy, possibly nonlinear ones may serve for overall strategy verification, and for software-in-the-loop testing, also the host computing/network architecture needs representing. In such a complex scenario, guaranteeing that all the descriptions of all elements are consistent with one another is a relevant problem. We discuss this matter and propose a solution, in the form of a modelling paradigm where as a novel contributions relationships (in a sense analogous to what the term means in database theory) can be instated and enforced. this allows to create and maintain knowledge based made of interrelate data and models, embracing all the major DT interpretations proposed so far in the literature, or said more explicitly, combining data-driven and model-driven DTs in a single framework. With increasing digitalization, manufacturing systems provide data to describe their current condition, allowing for a digital representation of the physical system. this enables a transition to more efficient maintenance and production planning approaches. In this context, selecting suitable prognostic methods is crucial and requires a high level of expertise and domain knowledge. this paper proposes a conceptional model for an integrated approach to solve these problems that are usually treated separately. Following an introduction of enablers for advanced maintenance strategies and prognostic methods, the conceptional model is presented. In this modern era of transportation, bike -sharing systems dynamically increased their scope as one of the main mobility components in cities. Conventional bike -sharing systems significantly impact urban mobility, and the users have more interest in the utilization of bikes for short trips. However, the conventional bike -sharing systems have no dynamic rebalancing and less user friendly. To overcome these drawbacks, we proposed a next-generation autonomous bike -sharing system. this paper discusses the concept and system description for on-demand shared-use self-driving bikes service (OSABS). We need to investigate the economic viability and factors influencing the OSABS system. Furthermore, we present the simulation testbed with the technical implementation of the elements of the OSABS system. We demonstrate a typical agent-based simulation model in AnyLogic, representing self-driving cargo bikes, users, and the operational area of the OSABS system within the inner-city of Magdeburg. Nowadays, the influence of the Industry 4.0 concept has increased the use of technologies that allow systems to be connected and make decisions in a more efficient way to increase productivity and reduce expenses. Among Industry 4.0 portfolio, simulation allows the creation of scenarios to observe, analyze and forecast data without investing in physical equipment. Manufacturing flexibility demands continues changes that must be mirrored in simulation models forcing companies to invest resources in remodelling previous works;this is expensive and time-consuming. To address the continued development of manual simulations, a model is proposed to create fast, adaptable and instantiable semi-automated simulations. In this paper, there is presented the structure found while developing simulation models and, a proprietary solution to address shorter simulation cycles derived from the interaction within the industry. there are also achieved successful results for delving in the case study in the automotive sector. the main result when applying the model is pointed out in the time saved to semi-automate functional and reusable simulation models. the paper is concerned with estimating the cost of production and warranty in the context a new product development project. All possible variants of the trade-off between costs are sought within the company's resources and requirements for a product development project. A company and its projects can be specified in terms of variables and constraints that constitute the systems approach for a problem related to cost optimization this problem is described in the form of a constraint satisfaction problem and implemented with the use of parametric modelling and constraint programming techniques. the paper also presents a method for estimating the cost of prototyping, faulty products in manufacturing and the after-sales stage, and simulating variants that ensure the desirable level of costs. General anaesthesia is a clinical procedure that involves the continuous monitoring of several parameters for the correct application of anaesthetics and associated drugs. Focusing on the automatic control in anaesthesia, this work presents a multiobjective optimization design of controllers based on the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) to solve the problem of drug delivery for induction of anaesthesia. Five Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers in a decentralized scheme were tuned for one specific patient and tested in a total of 24 simulated patients. Acting over the infusions of Propofol, Remifentanil, Atracurium, Dobutamine, and Sodium Nitroprusside the proposed controllers could maintain the controlled variables in a safe range for surgical procedures. this work proposes an end-to-end model architecture, from feature extraction to classification using an Artificial Neural Network. the feature extraction process starts from an initial set of signals acquired by electrodes of a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). the proposed architecture includes the design and implementation of a functional six Degree-of-Freedom (DOF) prosthetic hand. A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) translates electroencephalography (EEG) signals into movements in the prosthesis. We also propose a new technique for selecting and grouping electrodes, which is related to the motor intentions of the subject. We analyzed and predicted two imaginary motor-intention tasks: opening and closing both fists and flexing and extending both feet. the model implemented with the proposed architecture showed an accuracy of 93.7% and a classification time of 8.8 mu s for the FPGA. these results present the feasibility to carry out BCI using machine learning techniques implemented in a FPGA card. Social distancing strategies have been adopted by governments to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, since the first outbreak began. However, further epidemic waves keep out the return of economic and social activities to their standard levels of intensity. Social distancing interventions based on control theory are needed to consider a formal dynamic characterization of the implemented SIR-type model to avoid unrealistic objectives and prevent further outbreaks. the objective of this work is twofold: to fully understand some dynamical aspects of SIR-type models under control actions (associated with second waves) and, based on it, to propose a switching non-linear model predictive control that optimize the non-pharmaceutical measures strategy. Opposite to other strategies, the objective here is not just to minimize the number of infected individuals at any time, but to minimize the final size of the epidemic while minimizing the time of social restrictions and avoiding the infected prevalence peak to overpass a maximum established by the healthcare system capacity.
