this work investigates the problem of designing H-infinity and H-2 output-feedback controllers for discrete-time linear systems with time-invariant uncertainties. the proposed control law incorporates samples of the system output measurements over several instants of time, producing a controller with memory that can provide an improved performance to the closed-loop system. Sufficient parameter-dependent linear matrix inequality conditions are given for the computation of the gains associated with the incorporated measurements. A bound to the H-infinity or the H-2 norms of the closed-loop system is assured by means of a parameter-dependent Lyapunov matrix. Numerical examples illustrate the advantages of the proposed approach when compared to other methods from the literature, showing that better H-infinity and H-2 performance can be obtained by increasing the amount of information in the control law. Conic relations of an input-output system are important system properties that can be exploited in order to design robust controllers. therefore, we study the problem of determining the minimal cone containing such an input-output system. While in applications the input-output relation itself is often undisclosed, input-output data tuples can be sampled. therefore, we present an iterative sampling approach to determine conic relations of a linear time-invariant system from input-output data. this sampling approach is based on saddle-point dynamics, whose convergence properties are then investigated. this paper proposes improved techniques for the control of continuous-time, switched uncertain linear LPV systems with decay rate performance index and optimization of the controller's norm. these techniques are of closed loop nature (trajectory dependent) and are designed using the solution of Lyapunov-Metzler inequalities from which the stability condition is expressed. the performance index used in the design procedure is the decay rate that aims to reduce the system's settling time. the other important tool proposed is the optimization of the controller's norm that aims to reduce the gains and facilitate its application. In addition to this, more relaxed conditions than those existing in the literature to obtain switched controllers are proposed, which will enable better global performance. Practical implementation of the improved techniques were made in a Quanser's Active Mass Damper - One Floor (AMD-1) laboratory prototype, subject to a structural failure, addressed as a polytopic time-varying uncertainty. this paper presents a systematic framework to combine H-infinity/H-2 dynamic output feedback controller design and economic selection of sensors and actuators for continuous linear time-invariant multi-variate systems. this combined design is formulated as a Mixed Boolean Semi-Definite Programming (MBSDP) problem. Big-M reformulations are performed on the input and output matrices of the dynamic controller to yield column and row sparsity respectively. A numerical example is considered which illustrates the potential of the developed framework. the results obtained from this approach indicate a trade-off between the economic cost related to sensors and actuators and the closed-loop performance of the systems. the paper presents a reconfigurable control strategy for the lateral stability of autonomous vehicles. the control strategy is based on the analysis of big data, which are provided by the sensor networks of autonomous vehicles. the core of the analysis method is a machine learning algorithm, with which the impacts of various vehicle signals on the lateral dynamics have been examined. In the analysis several scenarios with faults in the steering and in-wheel systems are considered using a high-fidelity simulation software. the results of the examination are built into the fault-tolerant reconfiguration strategy. Inventory control is one of the main activities in industrial plant management. Both process owners and line workers interact daily with stocks of components and finite products, and an effective management of these inventory levels is a key factor in an efficient manufacturing process. In this paper the algorithms k-means and Ward's method are used to cluster items into homogenous groups to be managed with uniform inventory control policies. this unsupervised step reduces the need for computationally expensive inventory system control simulations. the performance of this methodology was found to be significant but was strongly impacted by the intermediate feature transformation processes. A set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing operation management is introduced in the ISO 22400 standard However, KPIs are only defined at a high abstraction level and this hampers the standard's practical adoption. In this paper, a framework is introduced in order to solve this weakness. Starting from the analysis of the relevant measurements used in the KPIs' formulas, a classification model is introduced defining three possible application scopes - work orders, work units and production orders - to analyze each basic element of the standard. As a result, the KPIs defined in the ISO 22400 standard are more precisely specified and, as a consequence, also suitable to be straightforwardly implemented in performance measurement systems. the problem of fault diagnosis in technical systems described by linear dynamic models is considered. the approach allowing increase robustness of the diagnostic process under disturbances is suggested. the approach includes two stages: 1) synthesis of sliding mode observer, sensitive to the disturbance and invariant with respect to the fault;this observer estimates the value of disturbance, 2) synthesis of diagnostic observer, sensitive to the disturbance and fault, using the estimated value of disturbance;this observer provides fault detection. the strive of healthcare organizations for learning how their processes are influencing the quality of their services and mostly the satisfaction level of their patients is encouraging this research work to propose a method which provides comprehensive knowledge in that regard for healthcare experts. this paper aims at suggesting an approach to model the pathways of patients as business processes and to measure the performance level of their executions based on the distance that patients take. In this order, Indoor-Real Time Localization systems (I-RTLS) has been introduced as the tool to monitor patients' pathways;Process Mining techniques will enrich the level of information by discovering the process models. Statistical Process control (SPC) methods will help to measure the performance stability of processes. An outline of the approach is highlighted by a study case which had been designed at a hospital in France. the results show that the proposed approach could provide accurate data and comprehensive knowledge about patients' pathways and the execution of the processes in hospitals. this paper presents a method which can be used to identify dynamical systems using a biased relay feedback for control purposes. the method is applicable for systems describable by a transfer function if there are sustained oscillations in the biased-relay feedback test. It enables to estimate up to three frequency response points from a single biased relay test. these points can be used for fitting up to five parameters of a process transfer function with various structures. How to improve the parameter estimation of process models using a transport delay is shown as well. the proposed technique enables to improve the estimate of a static gain for a plant under a static load disturbance. the applicability of the method is demonstrated on simulated examples and on a laboratory apparatus called "Water Levitation".
