Electric AC drives in manufacturing processes are well known and extensively studied. Speed loops can be commonly constructed through a decoupling method like Direct Torque control (DTC) or Field Oriented control (FOC) and a PID controller, which lacks of robustness towards torque variations. In this work a robust speed controller is incorporated to a DTC;its robustness is applied to the settling time of the speed when the system is subjected to different load conditions, which vary from a low value to nearly its maximum. DTC-speed loop is linearly modeled through least squares identification method and its uncertainties are overcome through Quantitative Feedback theory (QFT). control objectives are achieved and simulated results are presented together with a traditional PI controller perspective. the goal of this paper consists in providing a survey of the main advanced control techniques currently adopted in factory automation. In particular, attention is devoted to model based control, model predictive control, intelligent and adaptive control, discrete event and event triggered control. the paper proposes a pointwise control method for the 1D nonlinear wave equation and a filtering approach for estimating the dynamics of such a System from measurements provided by a small number of sensors. It is shown that the numerical solution of the associated partial differential equation results into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. With the application of a diffeomorphism that is based on differential flatness theory it is shown that an equivalent description of the system in the linear canonical (Brunovsky) form is obtained. this transformation enables to obtain estimates about the state vector of the system through the application of the standard Kalman Filter recursion. For the local subsystems, into which the nonlinear wave equation is decomposed, it becomes possible to apply pointwise state estimation-based feedback control. the efficiency of the proposed filtering and control approach for nonlinear systems described by 1D partial differential equations of the wave type (e.g. sine-Gordon PDE) is confirmed through simulation experiments. the assignment of functions to controllers is a crucial step when bilding an operational control system architecture. We identified this problem as a Multiple Choice Vector Bin-Packing with Conflicts that is a generalization of the one-dimensional Bin-Packing problem. Such problems are known to be strongly NP-Hard and exact techniques to solve them are too time and/or space consuming because of the combinatorial explosion. therefore, in this paper, we propose a fast First-Fit Decreasing based heuristic tflat derives an optimized number of controllers in polynomial time. the objective is to minimize the global cost of controllers while satisfying safety constraints. We show through experiments that the adopted approach allows us to obtain values that are in average very close to the optimum. this paper proposes a modeling strategy for automated Flexible Manufacturing systems (FMS) that incorporates automated guided vehicles (AGV's) as material handling systems. Using the industrial standard ISA-95, the task-based coordination of equipment and storages is constructed considering process restrictions, logical precedence conditions, shared resources and the assignment of the robots to move work pieces individually or in subgroups. the Petri Net model calls in the low level to formation, marching and collision avoidance control laws, for omnidirectional robots. the hybrid architecture is implemented and validated for the case of a FMS and four mobile robots. In a production/inventory system, invisible stock loss can lead to inventory inaccuracy that has negative impact on the replenishment process and will cause severe stock-out. In this paper, two robust replenishment control policies are designed for such a system. the first policy is developed based on a partially observed Markov decision process (POMDP) model of this system, and the second policy is constructed based on dynamic programming by replacing the random stock loss rate and demand rates With their mean values. Numerical experiments show that the POMDP-based policy generates more profit than the DP-based policy, and the DP policy performs better than the replenishment policy that simply ignores all the stock loss. Each company struggles with the same question: How can I provide - at the lowest possible costs and with an acceptable delivery time - products or sell/ices that add maximum value for my customers? Firms must develop strategic objectives which result in a competitive advantage in the market place. there are many different methods which address this problem: Lean (the value adding organization), Six Sigma (the perfect organization), TOC (the unlimited organization), TPM (the smooth organization), RCM (the reliable organization) and QRM (the cellular organization). In addition, combinations of these methods exist, like Lean Six Sigma (value adding and perfect organization) and World Class (value adding and perfect and smooth organization). the aim of this work is to present establishments of the basic model of WCM for the logistics system in the automotive industry in order to improve the work standards. the result of this research was to develop principles on strategic objectives, performance measurement systems and performance measurement system linkages for improved organizational coordination. Human factor is considered as a cost effective alternative to expensive automated solutions, as well as an easily interchangeable high flexible resource. However, for many years the influence of human behavior on production system performance has been underestimated and a lot of unrealistic assumptions have been used to simplify the human component modeling. Nowadays, population aging is acknowledged as a global trend. Among individual factors impacting on workers' performance, high attention is being paid to the age from scientific community, policy-makers and business leaders. In this paper, demographic aspects and their implications on workforce composition are illustrated;successively, main findings on age-related performance characteristics are summarized. the authors propose an age related model which aims to find optimal job rotation schedules in work environments characterized by low load manual tasks with a high frequency of repetition (e.g. assembly lines). the model is an integer programming model allowing for the maximization of the overall system performance jointly reducing and balancing human workloads and ergonomic risk within acceptable limits. this paper presents a method to design reconfigurable distributed manufacturing control systems which integrates heterogeneous technological of facilities that are geographically distributed. Due to the heterogeneity of the environment, the method explores concepts of different techniques and takes the best practices from each one. Mechanisms for reconfiguration are proposed using holonic and multi-agent systems techniques. the service-oriented architecture concept is applied to define the interfaces for communication. A combined top-down and bottom-up approach is described using Petri net, models. An application example demonstrates the characteristics and advantages of the proposed method, such as autonomy, reactivity, reuse itacroperability and reconfiguration flexibility. All emergency vehicles are permitted to break conventional road rules in order to reach their destinations in the fastest possible time, such as driving through an intersection when the traffic light is red. this work focuses on the use of Timed Petri nets to model the preemption of emergency vehicles system. the advantage of the proposed approach is the clear presentation of traffic lights' behaviors in terms of conditions and events that cause the preemption of phase being changed. the resulting models allow one to identify and thus avoid urgent scenarios in such systems by conditions and events of the model that control the phase of traffic light alternations. Moreover, this paper also proposes an emergency vehicle preemption policy that provides the emergency vehicles can pass through the intersections with less delay. the liveness and reversibility of the proposed model are verified.
