Safety is an important issue that has increasingly been focused on. the reasons arc the numerous accidents in process industries which require a hard look at current practices such as process design, process control, risk analysis and control, and risk assessment. Critical faults in process industries could lead to loss of lives, environmental damage and significant financial losses of property and equipment. Accidents typically result from the absence or breach of defenses or breach of security restrictions. the so-called defense-in-depth principle embodies the idea of multiple lines of defense and safety barriers along the accident scene: and this principle avoids ensuring the dependence of safety on a single element. Additionally, for several accidents, the identification of concealed faults and/or non observability of critical faults have been reported. during the evolution of faults following the accident, as relevant factors in the occurrence of catastrophic accidents Finally, as process industries, are complex systems that interact with the environment. the disturbances caused by the environment must be properly diagnosed and treated by these systems. Based on these issues, this work initially proposes a safety control architecture that integrates the concept of reactivity associated with de principles of defense-indepth, and safety-diagnosability addressing aspects related to critical faults prevention, mitigation and description of the development of failures. We believe that the safety control architecture is a change in paradigm contributing to risk analysis, risk and hazard control, and risk assessment. For Model Predictive controlled (MPC) applications, the quality of the plant model determines the quality of performance of the controller. Model Plant Mismatch (MPM), the discrepancies between the plant model and actual plant transfer matrix, can both improve or degrade performance, depending on the context in which performance is measured. In this paper, we do not use performance metrics or "yes-no"-type tests to merely diagnose the presence or absence of MPM in the plant matrix. Rather, we achieve the further goal of locating the exact MPM-affected elements within the plant matrix. Our proposed detection algorithm consists of two system identification experiments: the first experiment diagnoses the presence of MPM, and the second experiment pinpoints the exact MPM-affected elements. We then exercise the algorithm on artificial 3x3 and 5x5 plants suffering from sparse MPM, and demonstrate the algorithm's capability of correctly locating the MPM-affected entries. this study aims at analysing recent research on supply chain design with disruption considerations in terms of the ripple effect in the supply chain. It develops different dimensions of the ripple-effect and summarizes recent developments in the field of supply chain disruption management from a multidisciplinary perspective. We observe that the analysis of how to achieve planned economic performance in a real-time, uncertain and perturbed execution environment is a Vital and up-to-date issue in many supply chains. Te ripple effect can be the phenomenon that is able to consolidate research in supply chain tion management and recovery similar to the bullwhip effect regarding demand and lead time fluctuations. this may build the agenda for future research on supply chain dynamics, control, continuity, and disruption management, making supply chains more robust, adaptable, and profitable. the coordination of lot-sizing decisions in an inter-organizational supply chain allows the involved companies to find a global production plan with lower total costs compared to individual and non-coordinated plans. Usually, the involved companies (referred to as agents in the following) are independent, self-interested and have private information. this contribution studies a distributed lot-sizing problem where each item may be produced by at least two agents. A collaborative planning approach based on simulated annealing is used to coordinate the individual plans of the agents. In collaborative planning mechanisms a general design challenge is the acceptance of a new incumbent solution during the negotiation process because it requires the elicitation and aggregation of the agents preferences. To deal with this challenge, we integrate the calculation of side payments based on the Shapley value into the negotiation. the computation of the Shapley-based side payments is demanding due to the NP-hardness of the characteristic function, which is represented in terms of the lot-sizing model at hand. three different ways of computing Shapley-based side payments are presented. Our computational study shows significant differences with respect to the runtime and to a lesser extend with respect to the quality of the found solutions. Most importantly, the approaches using side payments outperform an approach without side payments in 225 out of 272 cases. We consider the ripple effect in the food supply chain and recovery policies on the example of Australia. Ripple effect describes the impact of a disruption on supply chain economic performance and disruption-based scope of changes needed in the supply structures and parameters to preserve the resilience. First, we describe the ripple effect in general and one example of the ripple effect in the food supply chain in Australia. Second, we present two models for a proactive and a reactive approach to the recovery policies in the food supply chain under conditions of the ripple effect. the preliminary results of this study can be used in future for comparing proactive and reactive approaches to tackling the ripple effect from resilience and flexibility Views. In many cities the food and drug waste is invading their districts, and disposal fees are high. In this paper we investigate how to determine an optimal ordering cycle when the demand for products and the price are fuzzy variables, and lead time is constant, in the case of perishable food or drugs of unknown deteriorating ratio, and at high disposal fees. the parameters required for the solution are trapezoidal membership functions for the fuzzy demand, the fuzzy, purchase cost for each item, the fixed cost to place the order, and the cost of disposal (i.e. disposal fee), the fuzzy deterioration rate, and the fixed storage cost specified for each item per period. the three fuzzy parameters in the total cost function are described as trapezoidal fuzzy variables so that the influence of Volatility of these variables on the criterion function could be calculated. In the paper, the safety stock decays at the same rate as the rest of the inventory. Credibility distributions arc given for such cases. Here, we demonstrated that the expected value of total costs in the ordering cycle is equal to the signed distance to the origin. the kurtosis of variables when appearing simultaneously, and their influence on the disposal fee are under investigation, therefore the trapezoidal membership functions are investigated. through an extensive analytical study and the numerical example, we concluded the following: (1) for the items having a trapezoidal demand membership function, increasing the volatility of demand generates a membership function with a flatter shape, thus shortening the optimal ordering cycle, and (2) an increment of fuzziness reduces the optimal cycle length more gradually than the crisp values, when the sum of the purchase price plus the disposal fee of the product, or the demand, or the deterioration rate are increasing. this means that a high fuzziness reduces the sensitivity of the optimal cycle duration. While the benefits of innovation seem to be clear intuitively, Research and Development (R&D) organisations are struggling to show the value they add. Especially in times of crisis, the result is that they get the first budget cuts to reduce costs in the short term. this causes companies, industries, or even whole economies, to lose competitive advantage in the long run. the field of business modelling deals with the creation and capturing of value. However, it has not yet provided a method tailored to R&D previously. Building upon earlier work on business modelling, we adapt the Business modelling Method (BMM) to the field of R&D.

We consider two synchronized schedules in the supply chain (e.g., an assembly line schedule at a producing company and a supply schedule for a module). this is a multi-objective dynamic scheduling problem with constrained machine capacities. the optimization criteria include total lateness minimization and throughput maximization. Due to some random re-scheduling activities (i.e., new rush customer orders) at one of the companies, the schedule coordination should be performed again. this problem is a dynamic scheduling problem where machine capacities are constrained. If a machine is assigned to a new introduced job that came during the re-scheduling, it cannot be used for processing the initially planned jobs at the same time. this conflict should be resolved on the basis of new schedule coordination to execute both new and initial jobs. For such problem statement, a new dynamic model for coordinated scheduling of interlinked processes in supply chain under partial re-scheduling is presented. the peculiarity of the proposed approach is the dynamic interpretation of scheduling based on a natural dynamic decomposition of the problem and its solution with the help of a modified form of continuous maximum principle blended with combinatorial optimization. the special properties of the developed model allow using methods of discrete optimization for the schedule calculation. Optimality and sufficiency conditions as well as structural properties of the model are investigated. Advantages and limitations of the proposed approach are discussed. With the developed approach, an explicit inclusion of a schedule changes in the SC coordinated decisions for a wide ranges of possible applications as well as a dynamic model and a tractable algorithm for optimal discrete time scheduling on the basis of continuous maximum principle have been obtained. Fed-batch fermentation process is an effective method for production. Due to the various feeding streams and operational conditions in different fed-batches, usually it is difficult to formulate a kinetics-based ordinary differential equations model for industrial fed-batch fermentation process. On the other hand, there are plenty of historical data collected during the fermentation process. In this paper, we firstly applied the graphical modeling method to model the fed-batch fermentation process. In this proposed method, the missing data within records are imputed, and then, the correlations between variables are determined by the low order conditional independence method, after that, the parameters of these related variables are learned by the multivariate auto regressive method. the calculation of L-lysine fed-batch fermentation process demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed approximate model method. © 2015, ifac (International Federation of Automatic control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd.
