this article details a new threat to NN formal verification that is well known in the formal verification of classical systems: errors in the learned model of a NN could cause the NN to pass formal verification on a property while violating the same property in real life. the solution to this threat for classical systems (which is expert reviews) is inadequate for NN due to their lack of explainability. Here, we propose a detection and recovery mechanism to tolerate it. this mechanism is based on a mathematical diversification of the system's model and the online verification of the formal safety properties. It was successfully implemented and validated on an application example, which, to our knowledge, is one of the most concrete NN formal verification in the literature: the Adaptive Cruise control function of an autonomous *** (c) 2022 the Authors. this is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(https://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/)

this paper demonstrates how various part-solutions can be combined in different scenarios for a more climate-neutral electric energy system. the case study is the Finnish electric energy system. Four scenarios are discussed. A base scenario for 2030 consists of already agreed future investments in new energy production facilities by 2022 supplemented by additional consumption and a moderate increase in renewable energy generation. Alongside the base scenario 2030, two scenarios with more ambitious renewable energy targets and flexibility issues are examined. the fourth scenario is for year 2050 analyzing the operational properties of the system with high share of variable renewable generation, flexible loads, and high-capacity energy storages. these scenarios help to assess how, for example, investing in wind or solar production, heat pumps on a large scale or the battery storage of electric vehicles influences the other components of the system and the implications for emissions. As networks become more widely used in control systems, the risk of cyber attacks increases significantly. the risk arising from stealthy attacks is that an adversary may take control of the plant through the communication network without being detected by the usual monitoring systems, with consequences that are often malicious or even destructive. this paper considers a new attack scheme called robust stealthy covert attack. Unlike the standard covert attack in Smith (2011), the robust covert attack can keep its stealthiness, even if the adversary doesn't have complete knowledge of plant model. It will be shown that the robust covert attack can be made stealthy by applying the time delayed control technique. In this paper, a universal residual generator is proposed for nonlinear Euler-Lagrange systems to detect sensor faults. the proposed residual generator is characterized by a simple structure, easy implementation, low requirement on model knowledge of the nonlinear system and strong robustness to unknown disturbances and unmodelled dynamics. the key idea is to apply the time-delayed estimation technique, which was originally developed in the framework of controller design for robot manipulators. By the time-delayed estimation, the measurement information at the last time instant is used to estimate all the unknown factors in the system at the current time instant. A simulation example of the well-known industrial robot PUMA560 is used to illustrate the proposed approach and show the effectiveness of the proposed universal residual generator. We propose a rapid nonovershooting tracking controller for the continuous infusion of anesthetics and analgesics to prevent overdosing and other harmful side effects on patients. the controller utilizes a state feedback control design methodology for multi-input multi-output systems to achieve a closed-loop eigenstructure that yields a nonovershooting transient response. the method is combined with a global optimization method to achieve a rapid nonovershooting response. the controller uses an extended Kalman filter to estimate system states from measurable outputs, and integral control is added to achieve robust tracking. the performance of the method is simulated on 20 patient models in two groups, and the results are compared against another recent study from the biomedical control literature. there is a lack of control education at the K-12 level, and introducing high school students to the wide range of control applications and methods needed for these problems will increase the number of students who later plan to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and control research or careers. through our established partnerships with schools in California and Kansas, we have developed educational tools to positively influence the learning and career paths of young high school (HS) students from underserved districts and underrepresented minority (URM) groups. through the development of new curricula, teaching modules, and shared resources that are made broadly available to other school districts, this work has the potential to impact a large number of K-12 teachers and students. We have been working to train HS teachers to create connections between the STEM subjects they teach students with advanced topics, such as artificial intelligence (AI), that are often taught only post-HS. It creates a context where students can see how their STEM skills can be applied and a pathway of continuing STEM education from secondary to post-secondary. As a result, there is the potential to improve student interest and self-efficacy in STEM and to encourage them to pursue STEM careers. Furthermore, AI is key to understanding and making use of data and solving many control problems. We aim to help students learn the fundamentals of how AI algorithms are applied in contemporary neuroscience. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

this paper deals with the problem of distributed passive fault tolerant formation tracking control for cooperative second order multi-agent systems (MASs) subject to disturbances and sensor/actuator faults. the proposed scheme is based on decentralized observers used to robustly estimate the actuator and sensor faults in spite of disturbances. these estimates are then injected into a dynamic control law in order to mitigate their effects on the control objective. Using the 7-tc,0 method, graph theory properties and the projection lemma, sufficient conditions in the form of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are derived to guarantee the stabilization of the tracking errors while reducing the effects of sensor and actuator faults and disturbances. A numerical simulation illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed passive fault-tolerant control scheme. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

A simulation study on oil rigs inspection via virtual reality system using drones aiming to increase the efficiency of the work done during the pandemic era is presented. the usage of drones in virtual reality environment does not only provide sufficient on-site training for the operators, also able to reduce time consumption and labor demands in carrying out inspections and eliminate errors of drone crashing and hazards. thus, this project covers the construction of virtual simulation framework using drones via Unity 3D, an open-source game engine and multi-rotor drones are selected as the drive mechanism due to its best maneuverability and stability. A 3D model of oil rig is constructed using Unity 3D that consist of equipment such as vessels, tanks, cranes, control rooms and flares like the real-life oil rigs. A 3D model of multi-rotor drone is also developed to produce a dynamic model that can wander around the oil platform. the process of scripting is done in Visual Studio 2019 using C# programming language which is one of the Unity 3D tools, making it essential for modelling and simulation development. Virtual reality features are gained with the presence of virtual headsets, static 3D modelling of oil rigs and dynamic 3D modelling of multi-rotor drones. the use of virtual reality system using drones in oil and gas platform has been successfully integrated to obtain the simulation result. © 2022 IEEE.

Photothermal therapy has emerged as a potential modality to generate hyperthermia as cancer treatment due to its low invasiveness and its capacity to complement other cancer therapies. Undesired side effects can occur such as damage to surrounding healthy tissue and temperature increase to values that cause tissue carbonization and evaporation. For this reason, this research aims to develop a multivariable fuzzy logic controller that maximizes tumor thermal damage while keeping temperature within the recommended ranges and minimizing neighboring healthy tissue damage. three inputs were contemplated for the control system: tumor thermal damage, future maximum temperature error and future healthy tissue temperature error;thirteen logic rules were used to determine the controller output, which was established to be the change in laser power. Results showed that the control algorithm successfully accomplished the proposed goals. Copyright (C) 2021 the Authors.

To enhance both the safety and the efficiency of offshore wind park systems, faults must be accommodated in their earlier occurrence, in order to avoid costly unplanned maintenance. therefore, this paper aims at implementing a fault tolerant control strategy by means of a data-driven approach relying on fuzzy logic. In particular, fuzzy modelling is considered here as it enables to approximate unknown nonlinear relations, while managing uncertain measurements and disturbance. On the other hand, the model of the fuzzy controller is directly estimated from the input-output signals acquired from the wind farm system, with fault tolerant capabilities. In general, the use of purely nonlinear relations and analytic methods would require more complex design tools. the design is therefore enhanced by the use of fuzzy model prototypes obtained via a data-driven approach, thus representing the key point if real-time solutions have to implement the proposed fault tolerant control strategy. Finally, a high-fidelity simulator relying on a hardware-in-the-loop tool is exploited to verify and validate the reliability and robustness characteristics of the developed methodology also for on-line and more realistic implementations.
