this paper investigates closed-loop stability of linear discrete-time plants subject to bounded disturbances when controlled according to packetized predictive control (PPC) policies. In the considered feedback loop, the controller is connected to the actuator via a digital communication channel imposing bounded dropouts. Two PPC strategies are taken into account. In both cases, the control packets are generated by solving sparsity-promoting optimization problems. One is based upon an l(2)-constrained l(0) optimization problem. Such problem is relaxed by an l(1)-l(2) optimization problem in the other sparse PPC setting. We show that the l(2)-constrained l(0) sparse PPC and unconstrained l(1)-l(2) sparse PPC render system states bounded if the design parameters satisfy certain conditions. the bounds we derive on states are increasing with respect to the disturbance magnitude. Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems are critical components that consume a significant percentage of the energy in the building sector. Faults in the sensing and actuation equipment of HVAC systems can create uncomfortable indoor conditions, as well as cause significant waste of energy. State-of-the-art fault detection techniques typically require control input data that maybe inaccessible in practice, since HVAC systems in large-scale buildings are controlled and monitored by proprietary Building Management systems (BMS). this paper proposes a learning-based fault detection approach for closed-loop HVAC systems with inaccessible control information. the learning-based adaptive estimation scheme aims to estimate the temperatures within each zone-air handling unit pair and the unknown control gains that have been selected by the manufacturer. the proposed scheme enables the design of less conservative detection thresholds, which enhances the performance of the fault detection procedure for the closed-loop HVAC system. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in a large-scale HVAC system using the EnergyPlus software. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

In this paper, a static output feedback (SOF) Pareto suboptimal strategy for an uncertain mean-field nonlinear stochastic system is discussed. It is assumed that the nonlinear function in the stochastic system for each player is unknown and constrained by a norm-bounded function. As a preliminary result, the single-player case problem is solved in terms of the guaranteed cost control technique. As a result, it is shown that the necessary conditions satisfying the suboptimality of the upper bound of the cost are established by stochastic coupled-matrix equations (SCMEs). Next, the aforementioned results are applied to a mean-field stochastic system with a large population. Notably, a new necessary condition is described by the solvability condition related to large-scale SCMEs. To avoid the treatment of high-order computation for solving SCMEs, a new reduced-order numerical technique based on the fixed point iteration method is introduced. Consequently, the centralized strategy set is computed, although a large population is considered. Finally, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, an academic example is solved. this paper proposes an overload management method based on Model Predictive control principles for electrical power network zones with Renewable Energies Sources (RESs). the danger of sudden line disconnection represents a critical aspect of the operation and the overload can only be tolerated within drastic duration and repetitiveness constraints. the first contribution resides in the employment of temporal and logical variables as a part of the system states to formulate supplementary bounds for the line power flow limits during the overload tolerance. For the second contribution, the control problem is shown to be independent from the exogenous overload trigger thanks to the feedback of these variables as the controller parameters. then, according to considered assumptions, a sequence of predicted maximal supplementary bounds is used for the control design. With respect to classical additional temporal variables, these bounds simplify the control design problem. the proposed method is validated through simulations on an industrial case study. this paper proposes a resilient and robust model predictive control (MPC) scheme for a class of Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) subject to state and input constraints, unknown but bounded disturbances and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. the attacker blocks the controller to actuator communication and the attacks are assumed to be time-limited. the control is designed by extending a robust tube-based MPC, where a new type of invariant set, namely p-step Robust Positively Invariant (mu-RPI) set, is introduced to deal with resilience. A set-based method is then developed for the control scheme to ensure both resilience to DoS attacks while preserving robustness to bounded disturbances. A computational algorithm is derived and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the potential of the proposed approach. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

Bottom-hinged oscillating surge wave energy converters have been proposed in literature to extract energy from the surge wave motions. this study investigates a dual-flap out-of-phase floating oscillating surge wave energy converter (FOSWEC) for deep water deployment where the wave power density is larger and the WECs are less visible. the proposed FOSWEC consists of a floating platform and two pivoting flaps. the distance between the two flaps is around half of the wavelength in order to achieve out-of-phase motion, decrease the motion of the frame and reduce mooring load. Numerical modelling and dynamic analysis are formulated using the WEC-Sim. Numerical simulation results of the average power and optimal PTO damping with different viscous drag coefficients and PTO rotatory inertias are presented. Simulation results show the proposed dual-flap design can significantly mitigate the platform's horizontal motion so that the mooring load can be reduced. To experimentally evaluate the system performance, a 1:10 scaled prototype was designed, fabricated and tested in the wave tank based on the Fronde scaling law. Experimental results were verified with modeling results and revealed the out-of-phase phenomenon as desired. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

In this paper, the design of an event-triggered fault-tolerant control for leader-following consensus in multi-agent systems subject to actuator faults is presented. the problem under consideration is to reduce the control update rate and to guarantee that all the agents follow the trajectories of a leader when one or all the agents are subject to actuators faults. the proposed fault-tolerant strategy is based on distributed virtual actuators without re-tuning the nominal leader-following control. Linear matrix inequalities-based conditions are synthesized to guarantee the stability of the synchronization error and estimation error. the effectiveness of the event-triggered fault-tolerant strategy is illustrated through numerical examples. this paper proposes a fault-tolerant energy management algorithm for microgrid systems composed of several agents. the method stems from the necessity to design an algorithm that takes explicitly into account the possibility of faults and their consequences to avoid solutions which are excessively conservative. A tree of possible fault scenarios is built in a completely distributed way by all the agents of the network;then the resulting optimization problem is solved through a distributed algorithm which not only does not require a high computational power for each agent, but keeps also private all local data and decision variables. the effectiveness of the proposed method is proved through simulation results.

In this paper, a fault detection and isolation scheme for multiplicative faults in dynamic systems based on data-driven K-gap metric and k-nearest neighbour (kNN) classification is proposed. To detect multiplicative faults, the standard classification task of kNN is studied from the viewpoint of system analysis. To this end, the data-driven stable kernel representation based on input/output data is presented for feature extraction capturing the dynamic of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. Data-driven K-gap metric is used as an alternative tool for distance measure between two kernel subspaces in the kNN algorithm. A simulation example on the three-tank system (DTS200) demonstrates the successful detection and isolation of various multiplicative faults. Copyright (C) 2022 the Authors.

In this paper, Reactivity controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) with an electrically-assisted turbocharger (E-turbo) is investigated. this is a promising concept for future green transport, since it can realize very high thermal efficiencies for a wide range of renewable fuels. the combination of RCCI with an E-turbo requires a new approach to manage the energy flows of the engine due to constraints on the storage of electrical energy. the E-turbo shows most potential to increase the engine's thermal efficiency by improved tracking performance of the desired intake conditions. To exploit the full potential of the E-turbo during transients, a dynamic decoupling feedback controller is designed. A supervisory controller based on Pontryagin's Minimum Principle is composed to maximize the brake thermal efficiency while the battery of the E-turbo remains charge sustaining. the supervisory controller determines setpoints for the feedback controller and ensures therefore optimal engine operation during transients. For the simulated, real-world based transient-cycle, fuel savings of 0.64 [%] are realized by the developed supervisory control, while remaining charge sustaining.
