Large-size infrared touch screen has long response time and external light interference problems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a method that divides whole infrared touch screen into several separate scanning units and a master module. Each scanning unit completes touch scanning and touch information processing within its own range. Scanning units are parallel working. Master module gets touch information from each scanning unit through UART bus, processes touch information to get final touch coordinates of the whole screen and reports them to host computer. through parallel working among scanning-units rather than sequential scanning on full-screen, this method improves the response speed. through using photodiode and crystal resonator to constitute received signal processing circuit, this method achieves anti-light interference. After response time tested and anti-light interference tested, it has proved that this method achieves a fast response and anti-light interference infrared touch screen system.

Using passwords to verify a user's identity is the most widely deployed method for electronic authentication. When system administrators need to recover lost passwords or test accounts for easily guessable passwords, it can require millions of hash function and string comparison operations. these operations can be computationally expensive but are easily parallelizable because each password can be tested independently. therefore, using high performance computing (HPC) can greatly reduce the time required to perform password recovery. Due to the high level of fine-grained parallelism of this type of problem, GPU computing using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) can be used to further improve performance. the scale of HPC can be further increased through the use of multiple GPUs, but this requires communication between the GPU devices and can reduce the overall performance due to increased communications latency. In this work a well established HPC framework, Message Passing Interface (MPI), was used to minimize the amount of latency and handle the communication between the devices. this allowed for a course-grained division of the problem using MPI where each device applies a fine-grained division of the problem using CUDA to perform the actual calculations. this paper describes three dictionary-based password recovery algorithms that use both MPI and CUDA. In this approach the hashed values of known words are computed and compared with hash values of unknown user passwords. the algorithms differed in GPU memory utilization and how the data was divided and distributed among the MPI nodes and GPU devices. A divided dictionary algorithm split the dictionary of potential passwords over the GPUs and copied the password database to each GPU. Recent advances in multi-core and many-core processors requires programmers to exploit an increasing amount of parallelism from their applications. Data parallel languages such as CUDA and OpenCL make it possible to take advantage of such processors, but still require a large amount of effort from programmers. A number of parallelizing source-to-source compilers have recently been developed to ease programming of multi-core and many-core processors. this work presents and evaluates a number of such tools, focused in particular on C-to-CUDA transformations targeting GPUs. We compare these tools both qualitatively and quantitatively to each other and identify their strengths and weaknesses. In this paper, we address the weaknesses by presenting a new classification of algorithms. this classification is used in a new source-to-source compiler, which is based on the algorithmic skeletons technique. the compiler generates target code based on skeletons of parallel structures, which can be seen as parameterisable library implementations for a set of algorithm classes. We furthermore demonstrate that the presented compiler requires little modifications to the original sequential source code, generates readable code for further fine-tuning, and delivers superior performance compared to other tools for a set of 8 image processing kernels. © 2012 ACM.

We consider the problem of energy aware scheduling of a set of jobs on a set of unrelated parallel machines with the average weighted completion time plus energy objective. the processing time and the energy consumption of the jobs are machine and speed dependent. Also, every job is subject to a machine-dependent release date. Firstly, we aim to find a non-preemptive schedule of the jobs minimizing the average weighted completion time plus energy, and we propose a randomized approximation algorithm that we derandomize obtaining a deterministic approximation algorithm. We then consider the budget variant of the problem where the objective is to minimize the average completion time while the total energy consumption does not exceed a given budget.

Grid computing is a form of distributed computing that involves collection of independent computers coordinating and sharing computing, application, data storage or network resources with high speed across dynamic and geographically distributed environment. Grid infrastructure plays a vital role in terms of computation in the performance call center. Moreover, grid scheduling is a vital component of a Computational Grid infrastructure. Typical scheduling challenges tend to be NP-hard problems where there is no optimal solution. In this paper, we proposed and evaluate few hybrid scheduling algorithms (Least Slack Time Round Robin Based Scheduling Algorithm (LSTRR), Shortest processing Time First Round Robin Based Scheduling Algorithm (SPTFRR), Earliest Deadline First Round Robin Based Scheduling Algorithm (EDFRR) and Firs Come First Served Scheduling Algorithm (FCFS)) based on deadline, slack time and baseline approaches for a real grid environment using real workload traces, taken from leading computational centers. An extensive performance comparison is presented using real workload traces to evaluate the efficiency of scheduling algorithms. Moreover, experimental results, based on performance metrics, demonstrate that the performances of our grid scheduling algorithms give good results. Our proposed schedule algorithms also support true scalability, that is, they maintain an efficient approach when increasing the number of processors on a real grid environment.

the speed of modern processors has remained constant over the last few years but the integration capacity continues to follow Moore's law and thus, to be scalable, applications must be parallelized. In addition to the main CPU, almost every computer is equipped with a Graphics Processors Unit (GPU) which is in essence a specialized parallel processor. this paper explore how performance of speech recognition systems can be enhanced by using the A* algorithm which allows better parallelization over the Viterbi algorithm and a GPU for the acoustic computations in large vocabulary applications. First experiments with a unigram approximation heuristic resulted in approximatively 8.7 times less states being explored compared to our classical Viterbi decoder. the multi-thread implementation of the A* decoder combined with GPU for acoustic computation led to a speed-up factor of 5.2 over its sequential counterpart and an improvement of 5% absolute of the accuracy over the sequential Viterbi search at real-time. © 2012 IEEE.

Motion detection using background modeling is a widely used technique in object tracking. To meet the demands of real-time multi-target tracking applications in large and/or high resolution imagery fast parallel algorithms for motion detection are desirable. One common method for background modeling is to use an adaptive 3D median filter that is updated appropriately based on the video sequence. We describe a parallel 3D spatiotemporal median filter algorithm implemented in CUDA for many core Graphics processing Unit (GPU) architectures using the integral histogram as a building block to support adaptive window sizes. Both 2D and 3D median filters are also widely used in many other computer vision tasks like denoising, segmentation, and recognition. Although fast sequential median algorithms exist, improving performance using parallelization is attractive to reduce the time needed for motion detection in order to support more complex processing in multi-target tracking systems, large high resolution aerial video imagery and 3D volumetric processing. Results show the frame rate of the GPU implementation was 60 times faster than the CPU version for a 1K x 1K image reaching 49 fr/sec and 21 times faster for 512 x 512 frame sizes reaching 194 fr/sec. We characterize performance of the parallel 3D median filter for different image sizes and varying number of histogram bins and show selected results for motion detection. © 2012 ACM.

We present MGPU, a C++ programming library targeted at single-node multi-GPU systems. Such systems combine disproportionate floating point performance with high data locality and are thus well suited to implement real-time algorithms. We describe the library design, programming interface and implementation details in light of this specific problem domain. the core concepts of this work are a novel kind of container abstraction and MPI-like communication methods for intra-system communication. We further demonstrate how MGPU is used as a framework for porting existing GPU libraries to multi-device architectures. Putting our library to the test, we accelerate an iterative non-linear image reconstruction algorithm for real-time magnetic resonance imaging using multiple GPUs. We achieve a speed-up of about 1.7 using 2 GPUs and reach a final speed-up of 2.1 with 4 GPUs. these promising results lead us to conclude that multi-GPU systems are a viable solution for real-time MRI reconstruction as well as signal-processing applications in general. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Our group's recent quest has been to use P systems to model parallel and distributed algorithms. Several framework extensions are recalled or detailed, in particular, modular composition with information hiding, complex symbols, generic rules, reified cell IDs, asynchronous operational modes, asynchronous complexity. We motivate our proposals via P system models of several well-known distributed algorithms, such as leader election and distributed echo. As another type of application, we mention a dynamic programming algorithm for stereo matching in image processing. We suggest criteria to assess the merits of this modelling approach and offer preliminary evaluations of our proposed additional ingredients, which have been useful in refactoring existing systems and could be useful to the larger P systems community. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
