Teaching Data Science to traditional CS majors presents many challenges to students, faculty and the supporting infrastructure. When the student population changes from Computer Science students to those in an Information technology program where many of the core CS courses are not required, additional challenges arise. Couple these challenges with teaching non-traditional students who are also involved with their families and careers;the difficulty in teaching this material rises exponentially. For our experiment, we chose to teach the Hadoop distributed File System, the Map/Reduce paradigm, and basic Hadoop programming to expose these students to Data Science technologies. We will discuss our recent experience teaching Data Science to Information technology students and the challenges we had to overcome, including missing distributed systems knowledge, a lack of basic Unix and operating systems understanding and a complete unfamiliarity with a distributed File System.

Over the past few years, availability of data throughout the internet has scaled to petabytes. Processing this data demands a strong computing mechanism rather than usual machine learning techniques. distributed machine learning solves this problem with distributed system environment. It refers to multi-node machine learning algorithms and systems that are designed to scale to larger input data sizes. To understand the best possible utilization for each algorithm in a parallel computing environment, a detailed study of these distributed machine learning algorithms is necessary. To summarize and evaluate their performance, parameters such as Execution time, CPU usage, Memory usage rate and Accuracy have been considered for each algorithm. the experiment conducted on LightGBM, CatBoost, AdaBoost and XGBoost demonstrated that CatBoost performed the best with an accuracy of 81.31% amongst the other algorithms. this analysis will thus help beginners and business firms chose the appropriate algorithm for their specific distributed machine learning application.

As of today, most of the internet of things (IoT) devices work in a centralized environment. With IoT devices having to execute thousands of operations per second, it has become difficult for centralized systems to handle such platforms. Also, factors like operational and maintenance cost of these server machines and danger of DoS(Denial of Service) attack on such servers has threatened the practitioners to come up with a more distributed way of storing the contents. With its decentralized and privacy preserving features, blockchain technology fits well into the scheme of things. this mitigates the quintessential challenges faced in most of the centralized systems. In this paper, we are focusing on the new firmware update scheme to perform the update operations securely. We propose a blockchain based solution for managing firmware updates in IoT. Improper management of devices and distribution of firmware updates from the device vendor could sabotage the IoT ecosystem. the objective of this proposed scheme is to verify and distribute the firmware binaries securely to the IoT device deployed by the device vendor. the PUSH-based method is used for a firmware update in which verification of firmware is done by Hash Chain. It preserves the integrity of firmware by linking the latest version information by previous versions information with the help of a smart contract mechanism.

the main purpose behind internet of things (IoT) is to extract extensive economic as well as other benefits and to alter day to day life of human being. but along with so many benefits IoT has a major disadvantage that it is considered to be an unreliable platform. However, in recent times block has received a enormous attention. One of the key features of blockchain is that it is a distributed and tamper-resistant ledger which holds a congruous record of data at distinct levels as a result of which it helps in overcoming the security issues in IoT networks. Applications based on blockchain are emerging, covering a number of platforms. However, blockchain is still facing a number of obstructions in its way which need to be solved. In this paper a review based on blockchain technology has been presented focusing on the characteristics, architecture and application areas of blockchain technology. the paper also highlights the advancements in various consensus algorithms and the challenges faced in implementing blockchain in the IoT domain. Finally the paper addresses several open research directions in the related field.

the emergence of various internet of things (IoT) applications has hastened the introduction of Semantics Interoperability (SI). Instead of storing enormous raw data, SI attempts to annotate these data with semantic information (a.k.a. ontology) that can enable smart management of the ever-increasing data generated by IoT. One of the main features of ontology is semantic reasoning for deriving implicit knowledge from explicit context information. Nevertheless, such semantic reasoning in the cloud can be computationally expensive with the gigantic amount of incoming data. In this research, we propose the adoption of "Fog computing" to distribute the procedure of semantic reasoning among a hierarchy of distributed Fog nodes than in a centralized cloud. To verify the effectiveness of our methods, we compare the proposed distributed Fog architecture with a centralized Cloud system based on the use case of elderly care.

the internet of things (IoT) are being adopted to improve the efficiency and reliability of diverse monitoring applications, including critical events (such as fire, structural damage, crack) in the smart city's public safety application. In this paper, we present BigReduce, an IoT-enabled scheme to reduce a big quantity of data through decision-making when acquiring data and transferring the acquired data throughout the IoT network, while providing event sensitivity in industrial environments. At first, BigReduce executes decision-making briefly on the ongoing collected data in a discrete-time based on the event sensitivity so that data acquisition regarding the event-insensitivity is reduced. then, BigReduce executes decisionmaking locally at the IoT devices to decide whether or not transmitting only a part of the gathered data that have a high event-sensitivity so that data with event-insensitivity is reduced. At an upstream IoT device (say cluster head), BigReduce runs a distributed decision-making to verify whether or not the collected data have to be transferred. Outcomes achieved through a proof-of-concept implementation shows that BigReduce is capable of reducing data quantity by 87% and energy cost by at least 82% compared to related schemes. © 2019 IEEE.

In the era of rapid development of internet technology and increasing social needs of people, web crawlers have been maturely applied to major search engines and search fields. By using Spark's RDD elastic computing architecture and task assignment algorithm, this paper integrates the architecture of Spark-based distributed crawler system, gives the corresponding framework diagram, and introduces the distributed framework system in detail. through this Spark-based distributed crawler system we can solve the problem of insufficient resource utilization and low collection efficiency, and then solve the contradiction between the current explosive growth of data scale and the speed of obtaining information.

Managing the internet of things (IoT) infrastructure has become a critical challenge due to an enormous increase in the connected devices and the lack of available security solutions. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has been extensively involved in network infrastructure management. Moreover, numerous recent studies demonstrate the use of SDN for managing IoT networks. In SDN, policy consistency and security of the data plane is maintained through Waypoint Enforcement (WPE) which ensures that the traffic traverses policy nodes/switches to implement high-level network requirements. Previous studies on SDN primarily secure SDN infrastructure against traditional distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. However, we investigate Crossfire Attack (CFA), which is a novel DDoS attack capable of interrupting communication of data plane switches using low-rate legitimate traffic. CFA has the potential to isolate policy switch from the rest of the data plane devices which introduces many security anomalies and routing inconsistencies. We first demonstrate how CFA is lethal on policy switch attacks and then present the design and implementation of a novel CFA countermeasure called CFADefense, which employs link selection, attack detection, and malicious flows interception modules. CFADefense has been developed as an application at the application layer of the open-source Floodlight controller. Our evaluation demonstrates that CFADefense accurately detects and efficiently mitigates CFA and poses minimal overhead on the controller in dealing with this attack. © 2019 IEEE.

With the rapid development of mobile internet, more and more people participate in online learning, online interaction and online communication. Online education has gradually become a new education model. Aiming at the cloud computing environment, this paper uses the hierarchical systematic design idea to deeply carry out the demand analysis and architecture design of smart education cloud in Colleges and universities. the system architecture design of the platform takes service and component as the core, and realizes the service encapsulation of each functional module of the platform through the micro service design of the single project architecture. At the same time, combining Dubbo microservice framework and distributed database technology, the platform's RPC communication, service discovery and traffic management capabilities are optimized, which effectively improves the intelligent management and application level of the platform.

the internet of things (IoT) and the blockchain are justly regarded as the technology for the future. the blockchain is a distributed Ledger technology (DLT) solution which has enormous potential as can be seen in the numerous avenues it has been deployed. Simplistically, it is a decentralized database which can revolutionize the current centralized world we live. IoT is the interconnection of devices with mostly bounded resources. IoT applications are also distributed in nature thereby making it inevitable that the paths of the blockchain and IoT will cross in the future. Blockchain's DLT will eventually play a crucial role in how IoT devices will communicate. the Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism was the original consensus technique introduced in the first blockchain based application (Bitcoin). PoW guaranteed consensus in the network by verifying transactions. However, the PoW had deficiencies. the solving of the PoW puzzle is computationally expensive which has become an impediment in the potential marriage of IoT and blockchain. this predicament arises as IoT devices are plagued with limited resources. In this work, we address this issue by presenting an approach where IoT devices can combine their resources to solve PoW puzzles that they might not have been able to solve on their own. this would ensure a successful merger between the blockchain and the IoT.
