People nowadays freely give out their personal information on social media without knowing the implications of such actions. the proliferation of social networking sites creates the illusion of fun that made people to overlook the downsides of using these media. this paper examines the privacy awareness and general concerns of undergraduate students who form the bulk of users of these media. An evaluation of students has been carried out to assess their level of concern for privacy and how conscientious they are regarding privacy policies. the work also examines whether based on the awareness, users are more careful or generally carefree. Furthermore, the research also sought to evaluate whether the privacy policies as currently presented is adequate. Another objective of the research is to examine better ways of engaging users if the composition and presentation of privacy policies are found to be contributive to the low level engagement. © 2014 IEEE.

Nowadays, the use of mobile communication systems are growing increasingly across the world, huge sensitive information exchanging over these systems. the security problems of information confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity became a prime concern of issue for users and society. Symmetric cryptographic algorithms have been proposed to protect the information of the senders and receivers through mobile systems. there are various symmetric cryptographic algorithms such as KASUMI cipher, SNOW cipher, ZUC cipher, and AES cipher have been developed for achieving secure mobile communication systems. Some cryptanalysis techniques (e.g. Sandwich Cryptanalysis Technique, Sliding Property Technique, Differential Cryptanalysis Technique, and Biclique Cryptanalysis Technique) can be used to attack these symmetric ciphers, therefore there is a need for more analysis studies to address the security problems of these ciphers. this paper presents a comparative study of these symmetric ciphers with focus on analysis of their specifications, components, and some cryptanalysis techniques over each other. © 2014 IEEE.

MapReduce is one of the leading programming frameworks to implement data-intensive applications by splitting the map and reduce tasks to distributed servers. Although there has been substantial amount of work on map task scheduling and optimization in the literature, the work on reduce task scheduling is very limited. Effective scheduling of the reduce tasks to the resources becomes especially important for the performance of data-intensive applications where large amounts of data are moved between the map and reduce tasks. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm (LoNARS) for reduce task scheduling, which takes both data locality and network traffic into consideration. Data locality awareness aims to schedule the reduce tasks closer to the map tasks to decrease the delay in data access as well as the amount of traffic pushed to the network. Network traffic awareness intends to distribute the traffic over the whole network and minimize the hotspots to reduce the effect of network congestion in data transfers. We have integrated LoNARS into Hadoop-1.2.1. Using our LoNARS algorithm, we achieved up to 15% gain in data shuffling time and up to 3-4% improvement in total job completion time compared to the other reduce task scheduling algorithms. Moreover, we reduced the amount of traffic on network switches by 15% which helps to save energy consumption considerably.

In this work, we present a new social image dataset related to the fashion and clothing domain. the dataset contains more than 32000 images, their context and social metadata. Furthermore the dataset is enriched with several types of annotations collected from the Amazon Mechanical Turk (AMT) crowdsourcing platform, which can serve as ground truth for various content analysis algorithms. this dataset has been successfully used at the Crowdsourcing task of the 2013 MediaEval Multimedia Benchmarking initiative. the dataset contributes to several research areas such as Crowdsourcing, multimedia content and context analysis as well as hybrid human/automatic approaches. In this paper, the dataset is described in detail and the dataset collection strategy, statistics, applications of dataset and its contribution to MediaEval 2013 is discussed. Copyright 2014 ACM.
